Anyone else have one of these as a kid?? (Monster Face toy from 1992)

As a certified (female!) horror freak and aspiring makeup FX artist I LOVED this toy. I was so proud to show it off to my friends, especially boys because they would be the most interested.

I just dug mine out of the attic for my son. Me and my friend used to call him Mr. Skeleton and we would use him to scare his little brother lol.

I remember this thing, now I feel old

I don’t remember seeing this at all. Makes me think of Creepy Crawlers and that that other machine that could make weird candies.

I did, expectation vs reality was pretty stark but it was still cool and gross. This and the Creepy Crawler machine were good times and I'm sure the chemicals they produced were not at all toxic for us.

Commercials for kid -- at least in that era, but maybe always? -- are so invested in the idea that the coolest thing you can possibly do is shock an adult. It's always a gruesome slime toy startling the conservative 1950's parent or some "extreme" candy or soda blowing the wig off a stuffy old teacher.
I don't remember ever being motivated by that, but it must be something most kids relate to, because that trope was/is everywhere in kids advertisements.

I didn’t really want it to shock adults or anything I just wanted to play with it. I mean, my dad showed me The Texas Chain Saw Massacre when I was like 5, we had a Freddy Kruger windshield visor for the car, he bought me my first issue of Fangoria when I was 7, and I dressed up as Freddy for Halloween when I was 4. The chances of my shocking him with a goopy monster toy was pretty much nil lol.

You know, that's a good point. The horror kids didn't need to be convinced to play with slime. Maybe these kinds of commercials were aimed more at attracting interest from the ones who were on the fence.

This is due for a comeback. My oldest daughter and her friends still enjoy this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I lived for this kind of thing as a kid! The grosser and more gruesome something was the more I liked it.
misterlakatos@reddit
Haha yeah same here.

One of my friends did, but it was already well played with and broken

I remember these being so cool, but I never got one.
Masterweedo@reddit
I had one, still got pictures of me playing with it on the birthday I got it.
Luminaire_Ultima@reddit
No, but I definitely wanted one. It was very cool. Good on you for creating looks with this and showing the finished results.

It was so great! It came with tons of stuff to change the face up and make it really gross, haha. It was like little zombie-obsessed me had won the lottery!

I remember the commercials and seeing it in stores, but never had one myself.
