My goats the delicatessen balls. I do get embarrassed buying them and eating them out with my friends… but they are the all time goat choice

Not so much a specific good but a combination. Walkers ready salted crisps and a bar of dairy milk. Cube of dairy milk in the mouth then a few crisps. Boyfriends thinks this is disgusting but I love the mix of sweet and salty.

Honestly? I get it. Girlfriend introduced me to adding salt on choccy spread toast and it's actually delightful. I feel like it makes the chocolate shine more.

Rustlers burgers. Do the buns in the toaster instead of microwave. I could eat a dangerous amount of those.

I’ve always preferred the soggy bun. Stack them on a sturdy crisp like a space raider or monster munch and it stops the bottom bun being too damp

I see those in various local corner shops frequently, bought them once and found them pretty disgusting. I once saw the same company selling chicken pieces for the princely sum of £2. They looked like chunks of chicken breast but sort of "plastic-y". Bought them, very weird texture and incredibly salty. Better than the meat balls but I wouldn't get them again.

It's not the meat location itself that is the problem, it's the additives and maybe eating too much meat in the first place.
View on Reddit #73410534

CrossCityLine@reddit

Every single formed chicken food you eat is mechanically recovered. If anything this is a good thing as it means the animal didn’t die so somebody could just cut its tits off. Using every part of it you can makes total sense and it’s perfectly fine to eat.

Given the environmental impact we really should be encouraging wasting as little meat as possible. If they’ve found a way to turn all the gross bits into a palatable and edible product I don’t see the problem. We don’t view black pudding in the same light but it’s no different really.

View on Reddit #73135579

I'm not sure what most people's assumptions of what mechanically recovered actually means .. but one method commonly used is literally 'Jetwashing' it off the bone with high pressure water 😬
View on Reddit #73137576

Prize-Ad7242@reddit

I’ve watched videos on hotdogs being made and it really didn’t seem that gross to me. The alternative is to leave the parts of the animal to waste. Which I personally think is a worse alternative.

This is my justification for eating meat. The animal is already dead, so if I didn't buy and eat it, then it was slaughtered for no reason. 😢

View on Reddit #73145005

RodneyRodnesson@reddit

It's not just that. They basically also crush a whole carcass in a car crusher style machine until a goo emerges. Saw a video once, almost put me off mechanically reclaimed 'meat' tbh but I'm made of stern stuff so I still happily scoff hot dogs etcetera etcetera.
View on Reddit #73188452

thefooby@reddit

The method I’ve heard of is passing carcasses through a fine mesh at high pressure. Honestly the process doesn’t really gross me out, most meat related things are a bit gross if you think about it for long. It’s usually all the other stuff added that taste a bit weird and leave a horrible after taste. Hot dogs are a bit of an exception for me.

Yeah but you used to get at least twice as many. I used to get them from my college shop when I was running out of EMA for the week, alongside some wraps and then go borrow some sweet chilli sauce from the cafe. I distinctly remember the box being twice as wide and I think it was 454g. Sorted me and my friend out for lunch anyway, and I was a much fatter bastard back then

View on Reddit #73234084

Jetstream-Sam@reddit

Yeah they cancelled it the year after I got it, which really pissed off my brother. I was getting £30 a week while he had to work a paper round every morning for the same money. Well, he could have gotten a real job but the paper round was too much effort and that was half an hour in the morning, there was no way he was gonna do 16 hours a week at tesco. We were absolutely destitute at the time so it allowed me to get some decent meals. Parents were divorcing at the time and we were flying between my parents every other day. My mum made my dad take on all their debt so I also spent a good chunk of it on him, because my dad wasn't getting paid for another month and had nothing in his account because my mum had taken it all. So I ate at home and saved what I could for helping my dad out. Honestly though I'd kill for those times back, it was a struggle but that time was like the first time he'd ever looked at me as an adult for bringing round some dinner we could all share, even if all I could get was a 2l of milk, butter, bread and a pack of those bachelors chicken and mushroom noodles each. Not the most nutritious meal, but that was a secondary concern when you've got £3.90 in change.

TBF they are ready to eat as it is, you don't need to totally nuke them, just 20 secs or so to warm them up. I think they do get a bit oily but only really the chorizo ones tend to be that oily and that's the chorizo doing that, or whatever chorizo like thing they've put in them, there's a high chance its just chilli oil, some spices and various pork tbh.

Peperamis were always my guilty snack, but they've changed them recently, they are now only 20g. > 50p per 100 gram Sneaky display of the unit price beloved by supermarkets, who are worried that £5 per kilo would scare customers off. Next time you are in the herbs and spices section, look out for this (or even prices per 10g) and work out the price per kilo. Dried leaves, stems and roots are actually very expensive.

Sometimes, I have a hankering for hotdogs, you know the ones that come in a glass jar and cost about 99pence for 10? They're vile, but something about them in a bun with mustard on scratches an itch onc every year or so.
View on Reddit #73128730

Well look at mr fancy pants with his hot dogs in a glass jar! The ones in a tin for 69p and require a can opener to open are where it’s at. Also getting a can opener that lasts more than two weeks and actually goes all the way round without having to readjust is now seemingly impossible:(

I still have this one that [I posted here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/678ccx/my_danish_tactical_can_opener_will_last_multiple). It will last forever and I'm sure there are reasonable facsimiles available. I think simplicity is the key to look for.

They got me through some rough times in my life where I was living in a caravan and the local store was over priced other than these. Great source of protein even if it is from offal. Add some cheap pasta and sauce and you have 2 meals

Those I don't really enjoy, but tesco sells frozen donner meat itself, it's... well, it's how you'd expect - mechanically separated meat, but sometime it just hits quite right. And it's still better than what all the kebab places around university are serving for 10 quid.

Someone else said its mechanically reclaimed. So, when they're chopping up a carcass for chicken breasts, thighs, and drumsticks etc What's in the balls is whatever left that's edible. Arguably the feet and head are already disposed of prior to the slicing. On the one hand, ew. On the other, they're cheap and not a bad change of pace. I occasionally buy these and their Swedish meatballs, they're both rather tasteless, yet, not at the same time.
