There needs to be a law regulating the brightness of headlights on all domestic consumer vehicles. It's been a problem since they say started using LEDs.
I feel like there are laws now but who’s going to enforce it? How many of these cheap crap lights are DOT approved? I live in Los Angeles and no one enforce any vehicle code laws unless it’s parking at an expired parking meter.
i think there should also be a law regulating height of lights above the road. like, semi trucks have them mounted on the bumper fairly low. f350s have them higher. they shine right into the back of sedans
The technology exists to turn off the portion of the LED array that is aimed at other cars, which relieves this problem entirely. It's illegal in the US.
When i turn my brights on its like daylight. But its saved me a few times i can spot deer really far away. I always turn them off and have to use the lowest settings or people constantly flash their brights at me. I dont even flash mine back in case they have kids in the car.
It's borderline ridiculous. Depending on where I am, especially if I am somewhere Metro at night, I'll literally wear sunglasses
Headlights really need to be regulated. It's making night driving a lot less safe
I just wish the general population had an average IQ of more than a rock. I got people with high beams on in the snow (snow flakes are ice, reflect the light back in your face and scatters it), I got high beams on at dusk. High beams on with street lights present. And it has nothing to do with the LEDs, they are fine when used correctly (high beams off) and aimed correctly. I've never blinded anyone in my Corolla, I use low beams and the cut off is perfect. For all the SUVs and old pickup trucks with improperly installed HIDs I have resorted to aiming my mirrors to reflect the light back in their faces. Has certainly cut down on the amount of people tailgating me.
Funny, I am blinded every single day as a pedestrian, regardless of whether it's high beams or not.
Guess everyone doesn't direct their lights properly...
You’re right. I flashed my high beams the other day because I thought someone had theirs on. Then they briefly flashed theirs, and I had sunspots for 30 min.
Not sure which I like the least, standard headlights that are fuelled with the curses of road blind divers or the Halogen phase where every car coming towards you is either a cop, mobile disco, flashing you or no never mind, just those damn headlights again.
