can of tuna in water, drained + bloop of mayo and mustard and some pickles. With pasta, on bread/crackers, by itself. one of my favorite easy meals
stuckin2011OMG@reddit
Omg its soooooooooooo goooooooooood I adore tuna bro, specially skipjack holy shit, I can't describe how wonderful it is. It tastes fucking great, its super cheap, its super easy to prepare, just the sheer amount of variations and combinations you can do with it are soooooo goooood and all of it tastes soooo goood. And is absolutely demential for muscle growth, so yeah, I believe its the meat of the gods. You could argue that methylmercury is a problem, but as long as you add enough selenium to your diet is basically harmless. GOD BLESS TUNA
IWishIWasAHorseMan@reddit
I do this too, and sometimes I add some hot sauce (Buldak, Sriracha, Cholula, whatever I have). Add sweetcorn instead of pickles if you want to take it in a different direction.
Like you said, it's super versatile, I like to pair it with some rice and dried seaweed sheets - sorta like deconstructed sushi (but not quite).
Sad-Cow-5580@reddit
!!! As a pregnant lady the tuna with sweet corn sounds so good I need to try this
IWishIWasAHorseMan@reddit
I hope you enjoy it!
scrotesmacgrotes@reddit
I put garlic union and pickle in the food processor with spices then I throw that in with bunch of hot sauce mustard and mayo cheap healthy food
soapiev@reddit (OP)
Ooh I’m partial to Tapatío but that’s definitely going in next time. And I’ll have to try with rice and seaweed too
Vaatsiel@reddit
You're either hispanic or just have good taste 🤣. Tapatío is my family's favorite store bought hot sauce.
ComfortableGarlic784@reddit
yum!!! will try this
BadOysterParty@reddit
I dont think anyone dislikes tuna
soapiev@reddit (OP)
My college roommates and actually a lot of people I know would strongly disagree ? lol
BadOysterParty@reddit
Im pretty sure its more weird to dislike tuna than To like it
No_Poet_7244@reddit
Is this like, wrong or widely viewed as bad? I love canned tuna.
soapiev@reddit (OP)
No haha I just think that some people are strongly grossed out by canned tuna at least that’s been my experience
Tobazz@reddit
Canned tuna is god tier. Especially for fitness people. Hard to find so much protein in a small can for pretty cheap
Antique_Echidna_6304@reddit
I do too. I dice up onion and celery mayo..Toasted with lettuce a sliced dill pickles. Num num num..Sometimes I add a pinch of curry as well.
Ok_Pangolin1239@reddit
Did this like 30 minutes ago with salt pepper hot chili flakes mayo and some yummmmmmy pickles. Put it on buttered toast. Gourmet meal right there
tbofsv@reddit
Very good source of protein and at low calories.
Great when you need diet.
curry_ist_wurst@reddit
I'll drain the water, add it to a pan with some oil and add in pre-fried (not caramelized), chopped onions, chopped garlic, red chilli powder and cook it up. Tastes great with roti or rice or even bread.
Zone_boy@reddit
I love tuna too, but also, mercury poisoning. Please consider the mercury poisoning. Its not good.
2000Bumblebees@reddit
Thats ok. Tuna mayo with pickles is quite good.
Fluid_Fox23@reddit
Add some canned corn - works really w
Alive_Scratch7883@reddit
My Acid reflex killed all my happy foods including tuna. I would throw a can of tuna, spoon of mayo, can veggies (pea, carrots, green bean mix) and some black pepper, put that shiz on Ritz crackers or saltines and you got the best meal a can opener and 2 cans can make in 5 minutes. Deff don't talk to me when I'm done cause I smell like a fish factory but dam does it hit the spot.
Result-Striking@reddit
I will genuinely go feral for tuna salad. I’ll even eat that shit out of the can.
the__moops@reddit
Same. Some mayo, mustard, relish, black pepper. Love it. My wife calls it cat food, and doesn’t like it.
More for me!
Kittenshmitz@reddit
Same here! It’s a great in between meal whenever I’m feeling snackish
MeeseFeathers@reddit
Raethule@reddit
Pouches > can. I like to make tuna melts in my toaster oven.
TriStatesTrifecta@reddit
I love you and I'm not scared to shout it from the mountain tops.
claudial12@reddit
Nice protein boost for minimal calories and fat, and super easy to make it tasty.
Ok_Nothing_8028@reddit
Ditto, it’s a “go to quick meal” in our house.
sleepyturtle65@reddit
Omg tuna+mayo+jalapeño brine and maybe some chopped jalapeños is 🤌🏻 elite
Make a sandwich with some lays inside for crunch... Amazing
-perspicacious_@reddit
I used to LOVE IT. Back in ‘08 we had this devastating hurricane that destroyed our entire area. A lot of the food bank types gave us lots of tuna. It tastes so good when you don’t have much else. Nowadays, it tastes like metal to me. :(
Honestbabe2021@reddit
I love it too. Especially the kind in olive oil. I’ll eat it directly out of the can sometimes
BareTheBear66@reddit
Little bit of seasoning and its good to go 😋
Honestbabe2021@reddit
If u can find it, get preserved beldi lemons. I purée a few at a time and add that to tuna and pretty much everything. It’s SO good.
ComfortableGarlic784@reddit
this!!!
HeftyAd2780@reddit
Canned tuna, celery, onion, lettuce, corn, jalapeños, mayo, mustard, salt, pepper and a dash of Everything but the Elote seasoning from Trader Joe’s 🤤
BareTheBear66@reddit
Canned tuna is good for a lot of meals. My favorite being rice with furikake sprinkled on top. Delish.
Sandwiches, dips, noodles, rice, on its own. Plus the different combinations of all these. Rice balls, bowls, casserole, salads even!
A lot of flavors mix with tuna as well, the possibilities are endless.
Its also just good for you.
We always have 12 cans on standby everytime me and my partner go grocery shopping. Good for a quick lunch or cheap dinner.
PotentialAd7322@reddit
Can of tuna, mushed up avocado and Chicago style giardinera is my lunch most week days.
joshliftsanddrums@reddit
Tuna in a can, sticky from the brine, I thought I'd gone bad, you thought I was fine :)
helahelfire@reddit
I like to mix in some cream chesse and add chives
Electrical_Bus9202@reddit
It's so good! I got a killer ghetto recipe for tuna burgers if you like, just mix your tuna with mayo, salt and pepper and some pickles or some relish, add a diced up boiled egg, and onion as well. Then put on hamburger buns with cheese before m wrapping in tinfoil and throwing in the oven until they are all hot and melty.
Hellheim@reddit
Bread it and fry in a pan
citlaliunderthesea@reddit
This is what I do!! Zatarains and some garlic breadcrumbs with fresh cut onion thrown in is a hit every time
Hellheim@reddit
Poor man's crab cake
IWishIWasAHorseMan@reddit
Does it all become like one solid mass, or is It more like a tuna sloppy Joe? Sounds delicious though, and somewhat reminiscent of a tuna melt sandwich (which I do with raw onions to keep some crunch in that sea of otherwise soft foods).
Electrical_Bus9202@reddit
It's like a cheesy tuna melt, kinda like a sloppy Joe with tuna? Lol they are melty, and a bit squishy other than the onions. It's great because you make like 8 at a time, then go-to town. You need a couple cans of tuna.
AloofFloofy@reddit
Why would you be afraid to admit it? Tons of peoole love this exact same thing, myself included. I like it with mayo, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and sometimes hot sauce. Saltine crackers or bread.
soapiev@reddit (OP)
Mostly teasing about being afraid to admit it... I know most like it but I do find that some people strongly feel that it’s gross.
ratafia4444@reddit
I kinda hate fish (sensory issues) and canned tuna is one of the few I actually like.
My fav is making a salad. Tuna (obviously), cherry tomatoes, salad (lettuce or whatever you have on hand), bell pepper. For more bulk can add beans. Dressing is olive oil, mustard and herbs. I devour that shit, especially with airy bread like ciabatta as a side. 🤌
Tuna sandwiches and sushi. Tuna pasta. Boiled eggs, mix egg yolk with mustard and tuna and stuff on whites shell. 🤤🤤🤤
Just-Call-Me-J@reddit
Mmmm pickles are a must
Cyndagon@reddit
Been eating canned tuna since I was a kid, my daughter eats it now too. Simple delicious and nutritious.
Fuzzy-Produce104@reddit
I also love canned tuna. I really enjoy the Starkist EVOO types (roasted garlic, crushed red pepper etc).
Funny story that still makes no sense to me.
I enjoy many types of seafood. My wife does not. She won’t touch it. Lobster, fish, crab whatever, she is disgusted by it. She turned off by the smell mostly. To this day, she will still eat canned tuna and that’s it. 🤷♂️. I can’t figure it out.
Sunny-Bear-245@reddit
Heck yeah. Eat it straight out of the can!
Subject_Ad_4561@reddit
I add shredded Parmesan to mine too.
More-Opposite1758@reddit
I eat canned tuna all the time. Love it!❤️
mrsjakeblues@reddit
I would eat it every day if it wasn’t for the mercury 😭. It’s so good if you make it yourself. Add a little Greek yogurt instead of mayo. I add tons of dill pickles. One of my safe foods and one of the few things to eat when my stomach hurts surprisingly.
chronically_varelse@reddit
I only eat tuna two ways
Tuna in water, combined with just enough mayo to keep it together, tons of salt and pepper
Or tuna combined with generous plain Greek yogurt, with less salt and pepper but also lots of dill and maybe parsley.
(I don't like celery or relish or onion in any of my salads.)
Perpetualshades@reddit
Same. It’s almost worth the mercury poisoning being so cheap and delicious.
Aggravating_Honey228@reddit
Tuna, rice, Japanese mayo, sriracha, sesame seed oil and eat it with seaweed sheets.
ComfortableGarlic784@reddit
i do the same thing with canned salmon. i have that at least 1x week. soooo gas
SeenInTheAirport@reddit
Tuna is GOAT protein. I love it.
UncleDuude@reddit
Have you ever tried it with hot mustard?
xjustbandsx@reddit
its so good! my mom literally makes the best tuna ive ever had in my LIFE
pinksunflower99@reddit
Same
SuperDizz@reddit
I do too. But, I used to eat two pouches a day for lunch, but had to cut back as to not get mercury poisoning..
ratliege_throwaway@reddit
Canned albacore is my favorite!
Crimsonclaw111@reddit
Tuna melts with some pepperjack, hot sauce, and sourdough bread is just a perfect meal.
JoeyKino@reddit
I usually go with a hard-boiled egg or 2 for good measure, and a bit of diced onion for crunch.
I also like adding a little bit of extra moisture and changing things up just a tiny bit - a little pickle juice to go with the "regular" version you have listed, or a little soy and wasabi for an Asian version, sometimes a bit of BBQ sauce and a smoky hot sauce to make it extra savory, or a boatload of garlic and some ranch dressing.
I also like making chicken salad with canned chicken, and adding a whole lot of Frank's and some blue cheese crumbles for a buffalo chicken salad.
Easy-peasy & delicious.
absolutely-n0t@reddit
