Would a Beretta M9 be a good first hand gun?
I'm looking to start saving up for my first handgun, and the one I'm looking at saving for is the Beretta M9. 9mm, Decent power, nice weight and size, is there any reason it wouldn't be a good option? (Pic is the specific one I'm looking at

Ngl I shot one for the first time today as well as 3 other pistols I've never handled my glock 43x was the worst... colt imo was the next best then cz 75 then a Beretta M9 not only that damn near every bullet I shot out of the beretta was touching. It was the beretta 92FS but fuck that I'm getting the M9 not the "civilian" 92FS

Yes, has DA/SA and can learn good trigger discipline from it, also a little heavy for a 9mm too so soaks up alot of recoil.

I didn’t buy a M9 but I bought a 92FS. I’ve had it a year and haven’t had any problems with it. The only thing is that I wish it was a little smaller. It isn’t something I could see myself conceal carrying but I guess in a pinch I could make it happen.

Despite many claims to the contrary, bore height matters. My brother-in-laws 40s&w Walther kicked way harder than a 10mm Glock that a stranger let me shoot at a range once. I had to ask the guy if it had 10mm in it and not 40, the difference was that drastic (you can shoot 40 in a 10mm Glock with the stock 10mm barrel, although some don't recommend it) he confirmed that it indeed had 10mm in it

I have a “baby desert eagle” from magnum research as my first one. Which is a CZ75 clone, but the only thing I don’t like is the on slide safety/ decocker lever. I rather it be lower on the frame, like the CZ P-01, 75 or IWI Jericho. Absolutely great firearm other than slide mount lever. Very stable and soft shooting even with polymer frame.

Beretta M9A3 or M9A4. All the best parts of the M9 series but with an option to put on Vertec style grips which makes the grip significantly thinner. It’s an awesome gun. I have a 92FS, an M9A3, and a PX4. Berettas are awesome.

.45 doesn't kick, it pushes. It's why I enjoy shooting .45 AARP so much. I'd still recommend a 9mm a first gun because the ammo is cheaper which makes it easier to get out their and shoot/train. I prefer metal guns, any of the wonder nines are solid choices, Beretta 92, Sig P226, CZ 75, S&W 5906, even a Ruger P89 if you want to save some money.

Part of me wishes I had gone with the classic original. Thinking about buying the classic M9 now and just having both. If you watch a lot of movies, you’ll see this gun everywhere, especially spy movies. It was the official sidearm for the Army, Navy, and Air Force for roughly 25 years. Can’t go wrong with this gun. onwardtowaffles@reddit

There's a reason for it. I personally hate Glock controls (doesn't help that I'm a southpaw) but there's something to be said for having the world's largest aftermarket. Are there going to be better tailored options for most use cases? Yeah - but if you don't know enough about the new shooter's situation, handing them a recommendation for the Honda Civic of pistols makes sense.
View on Reddit #7497721

Highlander_16@reddit

The aftermarket part always gets me. We're talking about a new pistol shooter here. How are they going to even know what to look for, or how to upgrade it? That comes with experience. That's why I think Glocks are intermediate pistols. As the joke goes, Glock Perfection, no original parts. Lol
View on Reddit #7497998

onwardtowaffles@reddit

At the end of the day, though, best advice you can give anyone is to find a range with a decent rental selection and have them put rounds through different platforms until they find something they like.
View on Reddit #7503726

onwardtowaffles@reddit

That's about where I'm at as well, but at the same time, we're talking about dropping no less than $500 on a carry piece. If there's a reasonable chance of that new shooter deciding they want something different down the road, there's a pretty significant difference between modifying a Glock and buying a whole new platform.

Outrageous-Summer-25@reddit

If you can get an m9 for a good price, go for it. My Beretta m92s is close to 50 years old, and I have never had a problem with it. It's a large pistol, so it won't be easy to conceal carry (unless you are big, or wear baggy clothes) but it holds 15+1, which is hard to beat. The M9 models are all single/double action, and have a de-cocker built in with the safety The older models aren't the best bedside/carry guns because of their lack of customization, but they are very smooth, and reliable guns. They are great guns that will last you the rest of your life, and you can't put a price on that. This is a gun that you know you can always fall back on, so I would suggest it for a first handgun. It's not overpowered, it's easy to control and shoot, the recoil is very nice, and the slide is smooth as butter. This isn't a gun that will scare a new and inexperienced shooter away, and it's fun as hell to shoot. If you are new to guns, and you can find an M9 Beretta that is affordable, then I'd suggest you get it. You can't go wrong with something this reliable.

Now… as far as advice… people ask me what they should buy for a 1st gun. Sometimes people will try to push a style or brand on you. I always tell them the same thing. “ANY pistol you can shoot comfortably, confidently and accurately”. Whatever company you support makes no difference to me. For open carry, range fun, or in your bedside table, sure, buy now. While the base M9 is still in the market, there's a fuckton of 92-series variants out there to check out as well (with all kinds of different SA/DA configurations). Is it just the appeal of the "M9" name? The newest version is the M9A4, coming in with features like optic combability, an accessory rail for lights, a threaded barrel, bevelled magazine well, the iron sights that are easier to replace, an easier magazine release to operate, and a slimmer grip. These are all features considered modern/contemporary incorporated into a tried and true all-metal hammer-fired handgun in a market saturated with polymer strikers. Are these necessary, you be the judge. If you plan to conceal, the size and even heft can work against the criteria better suited. That's before we even get to the nitty gritty details like something with a hammer in concealment. But, the M9's decocker is a great feature. They have shorter barreled 92 variants, like the 92X RDO Compact, that I would recommend. > Decent power, It's a 9x19mm, being fired out of a 4.9" barrel. Power is a broad term. Yeah, its getting extra velocity compared to the publish numbers on the ammo box (if present, are referring to performance out of a 4" barrel as per SAAMI spec). So something like Federal HST 124gr @ 4" doing 310lb/ft, vs the M9 doing approx. 340lb/ft, a +9% energy advantage... except with modern ammunition, as in hollowpoints, its really a matter of the bullet striking the target at designed expansion velocity threshold (a number I don't see manufacturers divulging) that decides how effective the bullet is. If I'm engaged in firefights out to 50yds, would the extra 110 fps at the muzzle be the difference for a better chance at expansion (bullets shed speed downrange, and most handgun bullets have comparatively terrible ballistic coefficiency because they are operating out of their element), dunno; I'd probably carry a smaller version anyways because I'm carrying it the rest of the time, and its not just mass, but volume (as in snagging on shit, going in and out of vehicles) that's a key consideration. Between the M9 and the shorter 92X Compact (4.25" barrel), the only difference you'll notice without breaking out a chronograph would be the increased recoil impulse on the 92X (.75" shorter OAL, less mass). Best wishes in finding the specific M9/92 that will fit you and your needs best.

The one down side of the beretta 92-series is the DA/SA action, which means you have to master two different trigger pulls, (unless you have a DAO version), whereas a striker-fired gun is a consistent trigger pull every single time.

Yes, but with one important caveat: it depends on the size of your hands. They've got a reputation for being a bit big in the hand, and it's not just a meme. I personally love mine: it was my first handgun, the first gun I bought myself, the gun I've put the most rounds through, and my everyday carry... BUT I'm a larger than average person, so the size isn't a hindrance. When you try one out, make sure you can work the hammer, the safety, and the slide catch with your dominant hand without removing it from the grip. If you can't do those things, then you may want to consider a smaller model. Also it's worth noting that the M9 doesn't have rails or a space to effectively add them for optics. This is a deal breaker for a lot of people, because optics are fucking sweet. Other models do have rails, including the 92 compact. So if you're not trying to use irons or pick up point shooting, you still may want to go with a different option to get in on that sweet red dot action.

The realest answer you will get, Get what works for you, everyone is different so the best thing is to get one in your hands and get somewhere to actually rent one and see how it shoots for you. Guns are like shoes, they fit everyone a little different. Also think about the guns purpose, is it a CCW, a home defense gun, a duty weapon, or are you looking for a mix of all of that. The answer to this question might dictate the size of firearm you wanna get. Finally think about the way or ways you want to carry, appendix, iwb, owb, this will also dictate what you choose. So all this boiled down is as follows, 1. The firearm’s purpose 2. How you plan on carrying 3. How it actually feels and shoots for you Bonus, If it’s a ccw how much weight and size can you realistically carry concealed willingly. Most people can conceal most handguns regardless of your size but it changes things like what clothing you wear and takes a little extra effort. Also remember m9’s will always be around so if it’s a first gun and $$ makes a difference you can always buy the necessary firearm first that checks all these boxes and put the ones you want on your wishlist to buy down the road. Hope this helps.

As someone who has trained with and carried an M9 as a duty pistol for 17 years, I will say that they are solid and accurate guns. It is an iconic pistol that will serve you well. With that said, I prefer the Glock 19 over the M9 for its lighter weight, reliability under harsh conditions, and ease of use and maintenance. And even with that said, I prefer the CZ P-10C over the G19 for its ergonomics and trigger out of the box.

Yep. Great guns. About the only downside with the originals is the lack of a rail. But the later M9A3 models have rails. The only thing I'm not sure about is an optics mount on top of the slide. You might have to get a Beretta APX for that. I personally like the CZ75 as a nice retro gun. I put a few thousand rounds through mine and it was a great gun. I'll be buying another one.
View on Reddit #7537062

Freshbakd@reddit

Real advice. Find a range that rents near you. The one by me insists you use ammo bought at site. Understandable since handloads I make I trust. The ones you make I don't. But if you rent 9mm you can swap it out for all the 9mm during that time. Tried most everything then went with the most comfortable to me. Ended up buying most of the ones that interest me over time anyway though. But in all seriousness the one you can shoot well and keep you coming back is the ones you want. No one can tell you what that is until you give it a go. If you're unfamiliar take the intro pistol as well. Understanding fundamentals is more important than brands or loyalty to one. I like Glocks and 1911s so there ya go

If you're not too picky you can get an NP3 kit from langdon tactical for ~$500 that replaces everything black except the mag plates and grip screws. You can also send your gun to them and they'll do all the replacement for a bit more. They're quality parts and worth the cost IMO.

Huh, never realized all those parts are black now. I bought mine new in the mid '90s. Just pulled it out of the safe and everything is stainless. And it was my first firearm purchase. An excellent choice. But I had been shooting since I was a kid so I already knew what I was after.

Yes, the option is either scavenge eBay for inox parts lots that can appear from time to time, or simply get the black (metal) controls cerakoted to satin silver finish, it won't be quite like inox/stainless, but it'll be a heck of alot closer than the factory black.

The m9/92fs are excellent guns with a proven history. They would make a great pistol to learn on. Only downside would be if you plan on using it as a ccw. Modern options like a dig p365 with optics cut from the factory that will hold the same or more capacity and be way more carry friendly. However, everything is a trade off. Easier to carry guns generally take more training to shoot well.

Anything with a hammer and a manual safety is a good first pistol IMO. My first pistol was a beretta px4 and it’s helped me be FAR more aware of safety than carrying a glock. I’m pretty convinced the majority of negligent discharges happen with striker fired pistols and people who’ve not trained enough to carry and use them safely. Having a manual safety really helps with shooter awareness.

Pretty much anything Beretta makes will be solid, I'll go slightly against the grain here though and suggest going to a good rental range and trying out a variety of pistols, especially if you can shoot with a trainer or someone more experienced. Gives you a chance to see how different platforms feel before committing (btw I did just that and shot both a M9 and a Px4 and I personally preffered the latter, but both shot real nice)

Generally speaking, I think a 22 LR revolver or semiautomatic is the best choice for someone who is new to handguns. Shooting a 22 is easy on the wallet and allows you to develop a good foundation of shooting skills. The Beretta M9 is an excellent handgun, however. Due to its weight, the recoil is very mild and 9mm ammo is the least expensive of all centerfire pistol rounds.

Perfect first handgun. Get an Italian if you don’t want to run the risk of cosmetic issues. The US made ones are good to go tho. Full size, metal frame gun, it’ll be very easy to control compared to polymer frame guns. Plus the open slide design makes it really reliable. Keep it lubricated and it won’t let you down.
View on Reddit #7507464

Level37Doggo@reddit

Perfectly fine if you want to start with a DA/SA 9mm. A lot of people don’t recommend starting with that, but in my opinion it’s fine. My first full power (aka I would actually trust caliber this in a fight) pistol was a S&W 3rd gen 9mm, and at the time my only other pistol was a .22, and it was fine to train and plink with despite not putting a lot of time in with the .22 yet. It’s pretty similar, all metal aluminum frame double stack duty/full sized DA/SA design from the 80’s and 90’s based strongly on earlier similar models. Both some government contracts and sold well with civvies as well, both were widely liked in their heyday. Beretta 92’s of any variety are legit good all-around pistols. Also, parts and accessories are abundant thanks to its commonality. Since the 92 series has never stopped production, you can find basically anything you could want for it, usually brand new at a good price. Just make sure it fits your hand first, some people (me included) find the grip geometry a little wide and/or long. Not overly so, but enough that it would take some training to compensate.

As boomer-fudd as it is, the 1911 was in service for something on the order of 70 years. The Beretta wasn't half that. Not taking anything away from the M9, I've always loved it no matter the hate it got. The 226 is also still spectacular, even by modern standards... it's just expensive and hard to maintain when something eventually breaks. Have you ever dumped a fully disassembled classic p-series in a box, then tried to put it back together? It's a terrible idea. Those things are more complicated than trying to figure out why my wife is mad at me this time. The p320 was a poor choice all around, considering its competition though.

The M9 (or 92FS) is not a great first handgun. I trained with them extensively and trained other people with them, in the Navy. Put a few hundred rounds through one, watch out for the Beretta bite, and form your own opinion. It will come down to personal preference, however there are more user-friendly 9 mm pistols available, such as the Glock 17 or the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. Like I said though, put a few hundred rounds through one and see whether or not you like it.

First gun I ever shot and trained with in the navy. I don’t think is the best first gun. The manual of arms is a bit wonky with the safety on the slide and being a fixed barrel direct (delayed) blowback gun, it definitely out of the norm in terms of market share meaning if you had to pick up another gun and take it apart, you might find it doesn’t seem like the majority of the guns out there. IMO this is a good gun once you get familiar with what is commonly out there in the world (US). Glock/M&P/CZ/sig would be my first choice and cheaper and more accessible (not that this gun is not).

Depends on what you’re gonna use it for. Yes the M9 is sexy. But it’s also a more complicated manual of arms compared to modern selections. If you’ve never shot a handgun, it could be difficult getting used to double/single action or cocked and locked (on safety). The barrel is also exposed where other handguns are not and could be a problem for noobies when manipulating the firearm. Of course all of this can be trained through. TLDR: Different manual of arms. Can be difficult to master but training solves everything.

Nothing wrong with this option, but the Taurus PT92 or PT99 are excellent choices as well, less expensive and have a lifetime warranty. Shoot the same as the beretta and their magazines hold a couple more. That said, the Beretta 92F or M9 are a great choice, just giving you another option(there’s also an EAA model 92 that is a few coins cheaper than the Beretta)
View on Reddit #7462198

e_boon@reddit

The way I see it, the only reason it would make sense to get a PT92 instead would be for the frame safety. Because right now the only Berettas that have it there are the expensive X Performance and Xi single action models. And even those don't have the decocker like the Taurus.

I personally wouldn't mind either but people generally put the Beretta on a way higher pedestal than the Taurus. Not exactly sure why, something about "fit and finish". I like the 80's/90's PT92's without the rail and with the more Beretta-like skinny slide serrations. The stainless model also looked like a stainless ghost 92FS but the newer ones have like this almost mirror finish frame, and that stupid hex key lock thing on the back of the grip.

I conceal a stainless 92FS and I recommend it, so long as one implements the G mod and a spurless hammer. The G mod because manual safeties on carry weapons are effing stupid. A spurless hammer because spurs increased the likelihood of getting hung up on the draw and inadvertent cocking while holstered. If I need to draw my weapon in self defense, I don't want to think about anything but the target, target backdrop and my immediate surroundings. That's more than enough to focus on in a high stress scenario. I don't need to ponder the state of my firearm; a round is always chambered, the safety is always off and the hammer is always down. I'm just a nameless faceless guy on the Internet though, so think about it yourself before you are forced to act ;)

All of these positive comments are a surprise to me. I literally never heard a single person in the Army that liked them. Not one. They were “okay” at best, junk at worst. I had no idea they had a significant civilian following.
View on Reddit #7454704

AngriestManinWestTX@reddit

That's because the Berettas the Army issues have had 50,000+ rounds through them, have been subjected to GruntThings^(TM) (such as using it as a hammer as mentioned below), have poor maintenance regimens, and are just old in general. Most of them are probably in desperate need of spring replacements they'll never get. Wait 25 years and see what grunts say about the M17 pistol. I can practically guarantee that they'll have less than positive things to say. Furthermore, the Army (in general) does not spend very much time at all teaching pistol marksmanship because for most grunts, it's completely unnecessary. As a result, most grunts really cannot shoot their pistols for shit. It's not just clerks, helicopter pilots, and generals who have fired a gun in 15 years that can't shoot well. There are pictures of [Airborne](https://www.military.com/kitup/2017/11/29/photos-soldiers-get-new-m17-modular-handgun-system.html) troops shooting their pistols tea cup style like they're in 1970s detective movie. The M9 Beretta is one of the finest combat pistols of all time. It's not the guns fault that grunts can't shoot for shit, abuse the pistol beyond specifications, that armorers don't bother to conduct preventative maintenance, or that it's fed shitty off-brand magazines. It's the organization and the individual shooter. Not the gun.
View on Reddit #7458702

MalcolmSolo@reddit

>…one of the finest combat pistols … based on what?? There’s plenty of military firearms, with all of the horrible treatments you describe, that have an outstanding reputation with soldiers and civilians alike. Perhaps you’ve heard of the 1911?? They were in service over twice as long as the Beretta and still loved by the troops. How is that possible? And referring to the Beretta as a combat pistol, while technically correct, is a bit of a misnomer. The Beretta was almost _never_ used in combat, and saw even less use in the civilian market because only a handful of police departments ever used them…I’ll let you draw your own conclusions as to why. When I was shooting the M9 I was in Ranger Bat, and our Berettas were literally new. We still had 1911’s in the arms room that hadn’t been turned in yet. After that I was a national level competition shooter, NRA instructor, and tactical instructor. I’ve never _not_ been around guns and shooters my adult life. I’m not saying this to show how big my dick is, only to illustrate that I’m no stranger to firearms, military or civilian, and I can remember exactly two (2) people that spoke highly of the Beretta, and I know one (1) that carries one as an edc. Personally, I can’t stand them. That being said, I’m not throwing shade on those that like them, only expressing my surprise at the comments. Jesus dude, chill out. And here I thought the 1911 fan boys were bad lol

>… based on what?? Based on the advice and expertise of people who have spent more time shooting, smithing, and developing handguns than 99.9% of the population such [Bill Wilson and Ken Hackathorn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNxN4ITmeNs) who both are very, very fond of the Beretta 92 design. Ernie Langdon also seems to be pretty fond of the 92 design. I'd trust their advice and commentary on the matter over practically anyone else in the firearms industry bar none. > Perhaps you’ve heard of the 1911?? They were in service over twice as long as the Beretta and still loved by the troops. How is that possible? My father was a tanker in the 1980s and he fucking despised his M1911. He's still reluctant to buy one to this day. The ones that were issued to he and his tankers were so worn and shot out that scarcely anyone had confidence in them. Curiously, he managed to win at least two or three shooting trophies with a Browning Hi-Power around the same time. > Jesus dude, just chill out. It sounds like perhaps you're the one who needs to chill out. I was merely stating that the Army isn't particularly well known for taking care of its weapons (especially pistols) and troops tend to find new and frankly ingenuous ways to test the absolute limits of what firearms are designed for. If you don't like the Beretta, that's totally fine, there are tons of other pistols out there. Given people like Bill Wilson and Ernie Langdon seem to think highly enough of them to not only shoot them, carry them, and compete with them, but put their names on tricked out versions of them, I'd say that speaks volumes louder. I'm not even that huge a fan of the Beretta but I know for a fact that it's a damn fine handgun that I'd being to stack against almost anything, including and rather, especially a 1911. > And here I thought the 1911 fan boys were bad lol 1911 fan boys are the worst. View on Reddit #7457509

AncientPublic6329@reddit

The exposed prevents you from grabbing the slide toward the front for press checks and the like. >A browning tilting barrel action is far from the only reliable option out there. I agree. I’m not talking about the action, I’m talking about the tip up barrel designs on other Beretta pistols like the [Beretta 86](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=beretta+86&t=fpas&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fs3.amazonaws.com%2Fmgm-content%2Fsites%2Farmslist%2Fuploads%2Fposts%2F2018%2F07%2F27%2F8669181_03_beretta_86_cheetah_380_tip_up__640.jpg). I’d imagine they didn’t include a tip up barrel in the 92 because the other guns are blowback designs and 9mm is too big to be in a practical blowback pistol, but why couldn’t they have just used a more traditional slide since they didn’t include a tip up barrel.
View on Reddit #7458782

NinjaBuddha13@reddit

Since when does the top of the slide being open prevent you from grabbing the sides? And why does a press check need to be done with a forward grip anyway? Whats preventing a chamber check from the rear of the slide? I did misunderstand what you meant by tilt up barrel, but I fail to see the utility of that function. Honestly seems like a real keltec choice that no one asked for but the cocaine said to go for it anyway.
View on Reddit #7459668

AncientPublic6329@reddit

>What’s preventing a chamber check from the rear of the slide? You could use a rear grip for chamber checks, but why couldn’t they have just given more real estate on the front of the slide for the people who want to use a front grip? >I fail to see the utility of that function. For people like you and I who can rack a slide, there really isn’t much utility other than doing something unique that other guns can’t do. But the tip up barrel design was originally implemented by Beretta with the 950 Jetfire in the 50s for people who didn’t have enough grip strength to rack a slide to be able to load their pistols. Think of it like an older, classier Shield EZ. I don’t guess a tip up barrel is necessary, but in my opinion it does make a gun a lot cooler.

In the case of Beretta, I would suggest getting the M9A1 or 92 A1. Note, my understanding is the difference between M9 and 92 is the M9 has a more aggressive grip texture and the front sight is nearly impossible to remove while the 92 is easier for the end user to swap front sights (both are reasonable easy for swapping rear sights) and the trigger guard on the two guns are slightly differnt

Yes and no. Its an amazing gun, its large frame and has very little recoil. Its Double Action / Single action so that style of trigger is different from today's modern Striker Fire triggers. With the DA, SA however you'd get second strike capability if for example you had a misfire, you just pull the trigger again where as a Striker Fired gun you'd have to rack the slide. Its also incredibly reliable, they just run forever and because its not plastic its going to last a long long time. Do you have large hands? Do you have good eyes are are you going to want a pistol you can mount an optic on? As you get older those Red Dots take the cake! It was in fact my first Pistol, and for years this was my bedside home defense gun because it earned that trust for me by never ever once failing to fire, and never ever once having a malfunction. But is that the best first gun? You might consider a modern Striker fired pistol that has the ability to mount an optic, many of today's modern guns are small, easily concealable, have large capacity round count and work very well. My Personal Favorite right now is the Walther PDP, either in Full or Compact size. That is an exceptional gun, and worthy of consideration.

I was amazed because it felt like point of aim/point of impact. Very accurate if you do your part and understand the basic fundamentals. I would love to collect all the Beretta M9 models. From Brigadier, LTT, Wilson Combat or whatever Beretta's pro shooter JJ racuza is rocking. Sure it has it's flaws but it's a classic for a good reason. Great Range gun but Carrying a huge metal clunk all day kinda sucks.

Learned to shoot on an M9 in the Marines. Hated it. I shot terribly with it. Switched to M18 and I instantly shot better. My $.02. If I had to start over, I would have learned to shoot on a full sized .22 pistol.

It depends on what the purpose is if it's a nightstand gun you're looking for that's perfect, but if you're looking something more in the concealed carry category, that's not really ideal. Now open. Carry with a multi-tier retention system or duty style holster would be okay but definitely not concealed

It’s a good safe platform. The grip is on the large size so may not be as comfortable shooting for people with smaller hands. The decocking safety can be a mental comfort for a beginning shooter. I prefer the feel and natural point of aim of the 1911 but everyone is built differently. Borrow or rent one and test how it feels while shooting.

I got the 92FS and the Glock 17L. I’m terribly inaccurate with the beretta, but I’m getting the hang of if

For concealed carry? It can be a bit more challenging, but can be done. For home defense or range time? It's a great pistol, definitely, especially with a double-stack magazine. If you're 5 foot nothing and under 100 pounds...well, if you've got the hand strength, go for it. Otherwise, it's a great gun. The manual of arms isn't the *simplest* but it is pretty easy, and gives you options, like having a decocker and being DA/SA versus most handguns that are SAO.

It's a great gun. You'll be happy with it. If you like it, a couple others to consider are the CZ 75 and the Sig P226, both outstanding, metal framed 9mm handguns.

I almost went with this for my first gun but chose a CZ-75 SP-01. After having gotten an 92fs, I have no regrets. CZ4LYFE

Do it. They're great shooting guns and I definitely want one for myself. Just have too many other things I want more, but eventually I'll get one.

Just be aware of the DA/SA trigger pulls. Your first trigger pull will be double action. Which usually leads to people pulling that first round. Subsequent rounds will be single action. This is after loading and clambering a round but also after manipulation of the safety. When the safety is put to the on position, the hammer will decock. Then double action trigger squeeze will be needed again.

It was the first gun for a lot of folks. Tried and true. Find a range that has one you can rent or find a good deal on a used on or new one on gunbroker.

This was actually my first handgun. It's a great tool to learn firearm safety, manipulation, cleaning, etc. The added safety gives a new shooter piece of mind. The gun is super accurate with almost no recoil, so it's a perfect starting point. Just know there are better options for concealed carry and the trigger system (double action/single action or DA/SA for short) is something you either love or hate. Once I discovered other triggers I hated it, but still have an affinity for the platform. It's a common range rental gun so maybe rent first before you buy

Hard question depends on what you want to do. Learn fundamentals? Definitely. Ccw? Probably not so much. I wish I had one but I think a Glock 19 is the best do all pistol to learn on. It’s big enough to learn on and small enough to ccw if that’s your thing or you have to for whatever reason

My first decent pistol was a [used late 80's 92FS](https://i.imgur.com/kqfZl90.jpg?1) I got around '98 or so. Many rounds, 2 barrels, and a lot of replacement parts later, it's still one of my favorites. It will run forever and ever, and look pretty sexy doing it. Admittedly, It's got a little more wobble now. Gives it character! One day I'd like to get a new one as they're made not far from me. I want the local stamp.
