Flashing brights in the dark??

Why is it that I'd say half of truckers, while doing the courtesy of letting you know it's clear to move into the right lane, flash their brights? You flash your brights during the day. At night, you turn your lights off, preferably with a button that trucks like freightliners have, so you don't blind the driver you're trying to help.

Some of us have been driving longer than steering wheels have had buttons to cut the lights...
icy_penguins@reddit
Some of us have switches on the dash that magically turn them on and off, its almost like they're built with them or something.

I have to take my hand off the wheel and lean over to turn a knob to cut my headlights off, and it's also against company policy to operate without the lights on literally ever in any conditions. Or I can just pull the left stalk towards me twice with my fingers while keeping my hand on the wheel. So my options are be unsafe and flaunt company policy or you have to deal with a bright light for a tenth of a second which isn't shit in comparison to the white volvo on the other side of the highway with million candle power brights stuck in the on position.
You got soft hands, brother. Get some night time driving glasses.
yardbirdtex@reddit
How about you just leave the fucking high beams off dude?
Do you think I’m stupid or something?
Do you assume I’ve been doing this for as long as I have and I still haven’t figured out where the back of my trailer is? There’s a bunch of lights on the back of it.
Who are you to tell me when to get over? I don’t need your permission. Yeah if I was smart I’d be in an office running a business but instead my ENTIRE DAY EVERY DAY 358 DAYS A YEAR IS MAKING SURE I DONT HIT YOU WITH MY TRAILER.
So brother thanks for the attempt to help but in reality, I have an eye condition and when you flash that shit at me I actually CANNOT and WILLNOT be able to see the front of your truck, especially when you hit your high beams at the same time as I look over to make sure I’m clear because I’m comfortable merging. So one day when you blind someone don’t come complaining here about your bumper getting swiped off by someone who can’t see…

Night driving glasses. Buy a pair. Or lose your shit every time every noob does the thing every noob does and relies on.
icy_penguins@reddit
Oh no, how will you ever survive taking your hand off the wheel for 3 seconds, oh the humanity. Company policy, lmfao! And you wanna say i have soft hands...OK there good buddy.
Or you can just drive your own truck and let the other guy drive his truck.

Pretty sure they got preparation h at the truck stop and eye drops. And those night time driving glasses. It's more than just cheeseburgers and sodi waters.
icy_penguins@reddit
Im guessing you probably know exactly where that prep h is

Can't just leave ur mum in the lurch after I visit

I hate when people flash their brights cuz like majority of the time they want me to come over way too fucking soon and the only thing that really doing is giving cars tentative permission to just jump over and pass on the inside. Like honestly people just can't tell when it's helping or hindering anymore so it's best if the practice just dies out.
Violet_Apathy@reddit
Because I can't turn off my lights 😭 The fard liner digital dash took that button away and I'm not going to fiddle with the switch. Maybe I should stop. I do try to make it the briefest flash possible
fusillijhericurl@reddit
At least those drivers are willing to help.
Knarknarknarknar@reddit
The problem is the dumbfucks who think you have brights on when they are not.
Flashing my brights instead of flickering my headlights off results in less absolute morons deciding to brake check me, or flash their lights at my back for 50 miles in what they think is retaliation.
So the rest of you get a tap of the brights, because im not dealing with people flashing a gun at me regularly. Sorry, not sorry.
AesthetesStephen@reddit
I can’t stand it either, but I appreciate the courtesy behind it. However, I don’t understand the reasoning when it’s just me and you. You’re doing 65 and I’m going past doing 75 with no traffic behind me. Just don’t waste your energy. It’s amazing what those little red lights on the side of my trailer can tell me.
Ap-Andy95@reddit
I don’t know. I personally hate when another trucker flashes his lights at me. I know when I have enough room to get over and if I am still in the left lane it’s probably for a good reason. Like the time I was repeatedly flashed but my exit was coming up in the left lane. I get it’s to communicate but if I can’t tell if I have enough room I’m not moving over even if you flash your brights at me.
bigbr88@reddit
When they do this I’ll still flash my markers or my 4 ways back. That way they keep doing it. I try to remind myself that there are still rookies out here who need some help, I appreciate it and it costs me nothing. They’re trying to help, no shame in that.
Trub_o@reddit
This. Knowing how it is being on the other end, when others won't let you over (as we all probably know), I at least try to be nice about it. If you didn't need to get over then fine, I assumed wrong.
Ap-Andy95@reddit
I’d be fine with something like that. It’s the blinding high beams that bother me, especially when I have no intention of getting back over.
Trub_o@reddit
I can't speak for everyone, but I end up doing it out of habit. I drive with my left hand and at night I zone out to the point that I'm just coherent enough to drive. In the split second when I register a truck signaling, I just tap the brights but feel like crap afterward. The button on the Freightliners is on the right side, and isn't in a place that I normally keep my hands.
icy_penguins@reddit
How about just don't flash your brights at all, like, ever, Its not that hard a concept. Its rude and unprofessional.
But when you do bright light me, you get them right back at you in the form of LED work lights pointed straight at your face.

Some companies disable the buttons, or dont option them.
