Going from Laredo, to Garland TX about 460 miles
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Absolutely, you never tried it but I've heard that when you're that close you can step out of the truck when they pull the weight. Regardless like a hundred pounds is within margin of error
Zanurath@reddit
Slide your tandem 1 pin forward and your 5th wheel 1 pin forward. Shifts some weight to your steers and you are legal total weight. The risk factor for "just running it" changes dramatically based on where you are running through, some states even have 36k tandem laws so you can run it as is no problem.
chivalryaintdead420@reddit
I came to say this
TruckeronI5@reddit
Yes,
fucksgiven_zero@reddit
It’s not over 80 so no. If it ain’t over 80 I ain’t turning my key. Guess I better start taking picture of my scale slips.
18-Spinning-Wheels@reddit
Run it!
mrwillie2u@reddit
Diesel weighs 7 pounds a gallon, your truck gets maybe 6 to 7 miles to a gallon, depending, take that into consideration
Exotic_Macaron4288@reddit
You lose about 1lb per mile. Granted that's spread over your drives and steers but mostly drives.
mrwillie2u@reddit
Sounds right
HowlingWolven@reddit
Do you have an APU? If so, everywhere but California.
Savagemocha@reddit
Depends if my tanks are full rn or not
Minimum-Jacket-705@reddit
All day all night and twice on Tuesday
J-Rag-@reddit
Run it all day without a second thought. It ain't getting much better than that
Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
Sure
confusedbystupidity@reddit
Move that 5th wheel
UncleTrucker1123@reddit
Honestly one easy fix would be to slide your 5th wheel up one hole; but honestly unless DOT has a stick up their behind, you should be good.
UhOhAllWillyNilly@reddit
This is what I would consider perfect but I run reefer so I’m always 80K#.
Accomplished-Cat-632@reddit
Giddy up and go. Bet your be slow rolled over the scales. Because you’re too perfect.
xDOCx89@reddit
You’re in TX you’re good to keep on truckin.
ResponsibilityTop732@reddit
Youre allowed 1% anyways. Most states will give it to you and most of the TX scales are closed
Actual_Handle_3@reddit
You're not allowed anything. The question is will they bother you for being over so little.
Frogspoison@reddit
Slide 1 more to drive. APU + burning fuel = good to go.
Davidson989898@reddit (OP)
I have no apu and about 1/2 tank of fuel as is. I’m new though been driving for 4 months. Driving at night too so I think I’ll be fine but I’ve never been overweight before
Frogspoison@reddit
APU is something that they'll catch on a closer look. 1/2th tank of fuel is 60-80 gallons, which is a good bit over 400 lbs.
Weights are complex overall.
First, the max weight total is 80k. To haul more, you need an overweight permit for each state you ate passing through, OR something like the FEMA weight permit for emergency responders (which massively increases your weight and every state has to accept it).
Each Axle has a maximum legal weight limit of 20k lbs. However, Drives and Trailer wheels must be below 34k lbs combined.
Steers have a different weight limit depending on manufacturer. It's not 12k - My current teuck is 12.5k, and a previous truck I was in had 14k. Generally, steers are good to slide onto - most weigh stations wont bat an eye as long as you are below 14-15k on em, even if you are above the manufacuters limit. If you get inspected though, they may hit you on that.
Certain additions to trucks and trailers further increase weight limits. APUs add a 450 weight limit increase to Drives and Steers, so you can go to 34.450k, and Reefer trailers adds to the weight limit. to Drives as well. There are other things in addition.
You also then have to take into account Bridge Laws. CA and MI are both sticklers for it, but alot of states have them even if they rarely enforce em.
With Bridge laws, your trailer tandems can only be slid so far back (and in a couple cases, only so far forward) before you get in trouble for it. So you gotta keep these in mind as well.
Gotta be weight legal, gotta be bridge legal.
Enforcement is another matter entirely. Some states/weigh stations dont care if you are over. Some care greatly - Indiana is known for this, and they can and often will penalize 10k over if you aren't legal.
Actual_Handle_3@reddit
Good info except it's not bridge law, it's kingpin to rear axle, KPRA law. Bridge is how much weight you can carry based on axles and distance between axle groups. It's federal.
fsantos88@reddit
Jesus Christ. OP is legal. Run it.
Obvious-Glove-7253@reddit
Is it worth getting a violation on your record? You’re the only one who can answer that.
No one here is gonna pay your fines and deal with any consequences of running an illegal load. That’s all on you bubba.
For me, the answer is always no. It’s my license, my record, my career.
The-Shartist@reddit
Overweight violations are just a fine. They don't go on your driving record.
Kronica184@reddit
It most certainly does go on your MVR! I got a overweight once due to loaders shoving everything on my drives and that ticket still shows.
Actual_Handle_3@reddit
Depends what state. Indiana is a fine and that's it.
Obvious-Glove-7253@reddit
You need to recheck your info bubba, it can and does go on your CDLIS and PSP report AND some states even can put it on your MVR like California. It affects you outside of the monetary fine.
I trained a dude who had got his violation all over his record for 180 pounds over on his steers. He was pulled into safety and put on notice since he was probation. Not worth it.
Accomplished-You-147@reddit
Ship it
NFLTG_71@reddit
Oh yeah, not a big deal
Hamiltonmilehi28@reddit
Yes
ATWAR68@reddit
SEND IT !
Cutmeinfor25@reddit
Yes. Any day of the week.
Maximum_Papaya_1885@reddit
Id run it in the midwest. I run weights like that all the time with no worries. Most places as long as you are less than a couple hundred over on any given axle and under 80k most scales dont care. Its also about your equipment and what state you are in. I saw you said you didnt have an apu. Honestly though you are good to go.
Full-Respect-8261@reddit
Yup roll burn fuel farther a bit loose weight no problem
No_Strain794@reddit
You're still sitting there?
Alubsey@reddit
You’re good. Fuel weight be lower by the time you hit the scale
GoldCovers@reddit
Without a doubt
dmccombe@reddit
You’ll be fine. They really don’t care unless you’re over on your gross.
Forward_Day_8850@reddit
Yeah that 100 lbs on the drives will drop when your start burning fuel
Freightshaker000@reddit
Only about 14 gals. Easy peasy.
Stone_Ravenn@reddit
Oh Texas DOT isn't going to stop you for that XD
bobmonkeyclown@reddit
4 roller grills and you'll drop that weight the next bathroom stop.
But really that'd burn off before its an issue. And if they'd nag you over the trailer weight then you were gonna get something else anyways.
Sad-Sir4306@reddit
Hardly any scale up 35 send it
lankyevilme@reddit
Are the fines still 50cents per pound over? This looks like a $90 ticket if the cop was an asshole, I could survive that.
