Felony and Hazmat

I got a felony (extortion) in 2012 and have been otr for 2years. I’m looking at getting my hazmat and tanker but am unsure how to or whether a felony will be an issue because I know a background check for Twic is part of it. Anyone have felonies and hazmat?

My buddy has 8 felonies for fraud, theft, embezzlement etc he has his damn hazmat lol 😂 I wouldn’t worry to much. As long as you aren’t a terrorist.

I have 3 felonies that are all 10 years or older now. One being Aggravated robbery w/ firearm (2015) I already got my Tankers and am looking to go for my Hazmat around March-April of 2026, glad I came across this post because I was curious as well about being able to obtain it w/ my background. May end up grabbing this TWIC I keep seeing also now that I think about it..

Im on felony probation and got my TWIC. They just look for arson, terrorist type charges, charges that happened on an airplane, and drug smuggling.

INTERIM DISQUALIFYING CRIMINAL OFFENSES
Conviction for one of the following felonies is disqualifying if the applicant was convicted, pled guilty (including ‘no contest’), found not competent to stand trial, or found not guilty by reason of insanity within seven years of the date of the application; OR if the applicant was released from incarceration after conviction within five years of the date of the application.
It's been more than 7 years since the conviction, but has it been 5 years since you were released?

An extortion conviction that old likely won't stop you from getting your X. The permanently disabling felonies are generally of the violent and terroristic variety.
But then, I have no criminal record, and I still have issues with anything with the feds so YMMV. ┐(´ー`)┌

I’ve got Twic&hazmat with multiple DUI’s and a felony trafficking charge. Go shoot your shot.

You're a better person than me, I wouldn't be telling anyone that shit.

I already gave up on life and became a truck driver and it hasn’t held me back since 😂

When I realized I wasnt gonna make more money, I decided that having a hazmat wasn't worth it.

Hazmat endorsements require a TSA background check through the TWIC/HazMat Threat Assessment. Certain felonies within the last seven years or convictions involving terrorism, espionage or explosives can be disqualifying, but many offenses are temporary or waivable if enough time has passed. You’ll need to apply and let TSA make the call. In my experience, drivers with old non‑violent convictions have still gotten their hazmat after completing the paperwork and fingerprinting, but check the TSA disqualifying offenses list to be sure.
