If your lucky one of the Amazon employees will throw you a treat.
superadmin007@reddit
The other day at my amazon facility, a box truck driver had to wait over 3 hours until we, the night associate, started to work just because the day shift didn't want to load 2 containers on his truck.
Beetleracerzero37@reddit
As an amazon employee you're on the better side of the cage trust me
potatocross@reddit
I like the Amazon facilities with the outdoor break area cages. It’s like driving by a zoo or prison. No one looks happy.
JamesRawles@reddit
You load sixteen tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt
WTNewman1@reddit
Saint Peter don't you call me home, cause i can't go. I owe my soul to the company store.
No_Edge_7964@reddit
Such a banger of a song
Ornery_Ads@reddit
Only 16 tons? Probably fired... work harder!
SycoJack@reddit
Given that Amazon won't let them leave without going through security, it really is a prison.
potatocross@reddit
I mean I gotta go in and out through security as do all our inside employees. We have outdoor break areas that are not cages in.
banryu95@reddit
As a trucker, I only ask one thing.... Just one damn thing.
Please acknowledge us. It doesn't take ANY of your time or stop you from being productive. Just say "Hey, I'll make sure they know you're here!"
I don't care if you have nothing to do with shipping/receiving.
At a few of the Amazon cages I experience I only give them 10 minutes to acknowledge me. I work in LTL and have 15 more stops to get to before places start to close. I have no problem walking out, mark the shipment "attempted" and letting my company charge Amazon for redelivery. But I would be much happier to just make the pickup / delivery.
lahcim_@reddit
I've learned over the years not give a fuck. 10, maybe 15 minutes max and its marked no receiving like you. I'll attempt multiple times if they make me - I'm paid by the hour.
Beetleracerzero37@reddit
Im an outbound lead I always say hi and find who ya need.
ud_frosty@reddit
4.5 years in the warehouse, left to be a trucker can say ive never seen more true words
warwgn@reddit
As an Amazon employee, can you shed some light on something for me?
I deliver to 2 amazon facilities in my home town. I’m always bringing in and taking out “non-inventory” loads. Why do they always ask for numbers I can’t give, because I don’t have them?
When I pull up to the check in camera/screen at the gate, does the person checking me in, work in an office inside the building on site, or is it some kind of remote call center way out in Timbuktu?
Why are the speakers at the check in gate so shitty, and why is it always someone with a thick foreign accent, so either way you can’t understand the instructions they give?
mydearpizza@reddit
They ask because it’s their job to do so. That series of numbers is one of the most important things you’ll need when pulling up to the yard, unless you’re non-inventory of course. Like you mentioned, just let them know you’re non-inventory.
As for the person checking you in, it’s both. Might be the person inside or it might be a call center. Just follow the directions on the screen/sign you pulled up to. Also, don’t assume that because you hear an accent, they’re from a call center. Plenty of TOM Team associates (coworkers I SEE every work day) have a strong accent. Hell, plenty of Amazon Associates have strong accents. Adapt.
LuRkEr_ReKuL@reddit
You sound like the depression has morphed into a false righteous anger. Why are you so bitter?
70hamsters@reddit
No.
Ok_Swim3109@reddit
Hard to adapt when you can understand a damn thing they say through those speaker boxes
NuttNDButt@reddit
damn that’s deep
LuRkEr_ReKuL@reddit
What, the depression?
LuRkEr_ReKuL@reddit

Imaginary-Badger-119@reddit
Sorry not sorry as long as there is a toilet dont care. Same complaint value as Walmart and other stores locking up products something happened that caused them to Need to do this. And then insurance.
Jamo3306@reddit
Yeah, it's especially demeaning when you're waiting on them to come fetch you, and it's been more than 10 minutes.
LordBuggington@reddit
I dont think its about that. truckers got banned from my building because, you can take a wild guess who, was washing their actual asses and balls in our sinks while getting unloaded.
Fair-Advantage9539@reddit
Interesting just drove by a warehouse today with loads of trailers and was having some random thoughts about Amazon as I passed by.
Few_Interaction1327@reddit
You're not human, you're a driver.
Mystery_Chaser@reddit
Yes, they do. That’s why they do it. They want your morale low. They want you to feel like you’re an animal and you have no place else to go. This is your food bowl. There’s no food in any place else for you. Enjoy your cage.
BDS_707@reddit
I used to work for amazons transportation team and can confirm it serves a good purpose. We used to have drivers drive right past our security booth missing the huge signs saying “To check in Call this number” and then they’d go right inside where that cage was and yell at people to help them-Warehouse people that had no clue what was going on in the yard. A manager told me that before they started installing the cages, they’d have drivers walking around aimlessly inside the warehouse getting lost and harassing the women meanwhile they’d be blocking 5 dock doors with their truck and trailer outside.
Exciting_Bobcat_5110@reddit
That happened because hundreds of truckers decided the wanted to walk around and gawk
-no-condoms@reddit
Walk around and gawk, get in their way, shit in the sink, steal things....
DarthBrownBeard@reddit
If i wasn't supposed to eat the sammich someone had left in the fridge, they shoulda put their name on it. Im not a mind reader. I didnt know Diane was saving it for lunch later. Nobody likes Diane anyways.

InfiniteHedgehog5913@reddit (OP)
Fair enough, but I mean they could at least call it a lounge or waiting room like some others do
KiwiKal@reddit
There is a trucker lounge. There's a sign for it too.
You're lucky you've never seen it. If you had seen it then you would realize you're not the one being dehumanized... the Amazon employees are.
I get to see the sun 2 days a week this time of the year. The rest of my week I am kept in a windowless prison camp run by dystopian overlords.
Few_Jacket845@reddit
I swear that I'll do my best to have an awesome lounge if I ever own a business that ships/receives enough to justify it. I swear it.
InfiniteHedgehog5913@reddit (OP)
Just keep that plastic on the couch. So you can wet wipe it 😂😂 might be needed
Few_Jacket845@reddit
Sadly you're not wrong. Probably just do institutional hospital style sitting space that can be wiped down properly!
Jonas_Venture_Sr@reddit
Newer sites have a lounge, problem is finding it.
illdoitlaterokay@reddit
if you don't feel hurt then you weren't, its all about your perspective. Where do they keep all the money at the casino (the thing everyone is insatiable for)? in the cage. its just words. words definitely can hurt, but only if you allow them to.
ExistentialDreadness@reddit
Hey some package handlers are cute.
Barad0x@reddit
Sat at one of those for an hour ata home depot distro center. Everyone walked on by just looking at me. Sadly, no one fed me.... :D
steveteeg1@reddit
Don’t feed the animals please
tantric_tongue69@reddit
I saw a video of a person climbing into the trucker cage. They were mauled to death
steveteeg1@reddit
lol. They could have used a different name. Drivers lounge. No drivers restroom.
viertes@reddit
That's it! You cant stop ME from pissing in the corner!
oneshadeoff@reddit
The corner! Why didn't I think of that?!
viertes@reddit
I changed my mind
I'm going for that sweet sweet keyrack now!
rytram99@reddit
Right into that sliding metal box some places use behind their bullet proof glass.
weatherrknot@reddit
That is exactly why the cage is necessary.
steveteeg1@reddit
Just look for cameras first
Over-Hope-3905@reddit
Yup, was top lazy to walk 100 yards to the locker room so I whipped it out behind our trailers in the yard. Did not realize the neighbor business had a camera pointing at the exact spot I chose, well until I was mid stream. Finished, saluted the camera, then two shakes and zipped up.
Side note: the camera is no longer pointed there. Unsure if I played a role in that (most likely not, but I still find it amusing)...

Spankpocalypse_Now@reddit
They could at least install one of those feed dispensers they have at petting zoos.
Justin33710@reddit
Put in a couple quarters and get a mini slim Jim to feed the driver out of your hand.

TheCatCovenantDude@reddit
It's Amazon; they don't give a fuck because they're more worried about literally anyone stealing from their warehouse (especially half the meth heads they hire.)
lavafish80@reddit
I'd be fine staying there if they added an N64
rytram99@reddit
I like to think it as them being stuck behind the cage and not me. I get to leave.
B22EhackySK8@reddit
Looks like a sort center i know FCs have the little trucker break room with vending machines. But even our FC had a little break room and bathroom for truckers. Varies by site
Bigdain14@reddit
I hate it, sometime you’re standing there for 20 min before someone even looks at you.
Low_Control_8603@reddit
I really don't think they care
CampIndividual783@reddit
Some of these cages are there to manage traffic flow and protect warehouse employees, but they sure make drivers feel like livestock. As a dispatcher I always encourage shippers to streamline check‑in/out and treat drivers with respect – a friendly face and a clean restroom go a long way when you’ve been on the road for hours. We’re all part of the same supply chain and it doesn’t cost anything to be decent.
Kbug7201@reddit
Hey, since you're a dispatcher, can you point me in the right direction for doing that? My BF is a trucker & is talking about me being his dispatcher if he buys his own truck. Tyia. & You can msg me rather than posting here.
jjvsjeff@reddit
Unfortunately I wasn't ignored long enough to climb over one of them. Screaming at individuals usually did the trick
CantSeeShit@reddit
"Truckers Cage" sounds like the name of a gay bar
puppyworld@reddit
Most of theses distribution centers think drivers are less than human. Haven’t drove OTR since 2010 but will never forget how I was treated at most distribution centers. There were a few that treated drivers really well but maybe 2 out of 100
FishermansPlatter@reddit
You choose your life
Justin_peacemaker@reddit
Do they care? Truckers are not fully human to them.
I absolutely refuse to be in one. Sometimes loudly.
Once, being warned that itcwas ayard where they demand we sit in the cage and not in the bunk i took in a metal camp cup.
IgnoringHisAge@reddit
Honestly? The humanity of any of the people involved takes a back seat to asset protection and margins and revenue and bladdidy blah blah money is our god.
im-not-a-fakebot@reddit
Drop the trailer and pull forward lol. They can come knock on the door when they’re done loading so you can hook back up to the trailer
Billybob_Bojangles2@reddit
Lol did you rattle it on the bars?
Snuffxx@reddit
I’ve always thought it was so weird, and sometimes they refuse to let you use the bathroom, like alright bruh I’m just pee in your trailer.

Avato12@reddit
Idk man I once saw a cult of piss jugs on the side of the highway had to be like 11 of those giant water jugs just fermenting in the new mexico heat. Figure if their fearless leader drank only red bull and mountain dew then he'd dead right next to them...
Or maybe the piss jugs got hungry and ate him bones and all not sure what would happen to his truck though.
Ep1cR4g3@reddit
With how acidic that'd probably get? Probably ate the truck too 🤣

ThrowAwayGarbage82@reddit
If they lock you up and won't let you out even to use a restroom that's false imprisonment and is definitely not legal.
ChimericalChemical@reddit
I had a driver even though we have like 16 different restrooms on site all he had to do is just ask, but no he shit in the trailer that’s not even ours.

InfiniteHedgehog5913@reddit (OP)
When you go to some shippers and consignees (pick up and drop off) the how a waiting area for drivers to stay in. The range of hospitality varies greatly from really bad to damn near mini hotel lobby. But they go buy different names, Lounge, Waiting room/ area and cage are the most common
JackFuckCockBag@reddit
Ah, I see. A fuckin cage huh? That's kinda fucked.

as someone who's worked in factories and warehouses his whole life before becoming a professional driver at age 30, I legitimately would rather be in those damn cages for a few minutes than ever work in a factory for 10 or 12 hours again. Not to be dramatic (actually, I am pretty dramatic lol) but every time I check in I look into the factory, at all the pallets, forklifts, conveyor belts, order and pickers, and I think to myself damn, that could be me right now.

I explained it to one of the workers now that I’m local and he’s a regular along my route because they never understood why the OTR guys hated it so much. I had to tell them to read the words literally. It’s a tiny room with one chair no bathroom and a literal cage where they are not allowed to leave
daroudarou@reddit

dgregg2_@reddit

So fucking glad I don't run van anymore. This waiting at distribution centers is absolute bullshit. I could never understand why it takes 3 plus fucking hours to load or unload a fucking trailer. Or 3 plus hours to do a simple drop n hook.
Then some centers insist on having lumpers that cost $40 plus to unload a trailer that still takes 2 fucking hours.
Yeah fuck that van shit.

shers719@reddit
The Amazon I go to all the time has a sign on the bathroom "Do not use. Under video surveillance." It's been 3 months and I doubt they're even trying to get it fixed.
im-not-a-fakebot@reddit
No no they just misplaced a period, what they meant was “Do not use under video surveillance” meaning you shouldn’t bring the security cameras into the bathroom when you blowup that toilet
UOLZEPHYR@reddit
Oh wow now thats insane
Q7017@reddit
Not sure, but here in WA, it's a state law violation.
Outlandah_@reddit
The bathrooms are usually inside where the cage is located (as a door accessed within the confines), but sometimes they aren’t. Usually that is because the bathrooms are in the trucker lounge.
TransportationSea714@reddit
That's why they do it
HopeItMakesYaThink@reddit
Those cages were designed with the inhumanity in mind, THEN the safety of their drivers and product. Most of the places that make these cages don’t even use that chain linked fence on their own perimeter. They bought that fence specifically for that cage.

Dont unload it, and the broker can pay detention and storage, i'll unhook and go about my business after a few hours anyway. After a while, i just need you to confirm you're rejecting the load without cause.
Yes i make it difficult for everyone else but fuck em, switch to a new MC and repeat.
tarkanneo@reddit
This is exactly what everyone thinks of truckers, a caged animal…SAD!
kramerj1@reddit
Yeaaa, I’ve been on both sides of that fence (currently trucker side) and can absolutely understand why warehouses do this.
InfiniteHedgehog5913@reddit (OP)
I get restricting access, it’s the label that’s crazy. Call it a lounge or waiting room. Cage is wild, I get some drivers are pests and rodents but not all. Though the bad drivers can get REALLY bad
Photon6626@reddit
It's a Pareto distribution
kramerj1@reddit
That is where the problems lie though. The bad ones are REALLY bad and mess it up for everyone else. I agree it isn’t fair to those of us who are professionals, but at this point in my career (10+ years driving) I just shrug it off. I’m local so I typically see the same places a lot, and once those warehouses trust me they generally give me free rein/access to anything I need.
InfiniteHedgehog5913@reddit (OP)
You’re not wrong, I’d honestly judge the whole lot of drivers if I got just a couple of the real bad ones. But just like you I’m local now. I run LTL with a route and have free rein of the faculties. It’s nice over here 😁😁

I’ve worked warehouse in my younger years and had plenty of drivers that blew my mind with their attitude/ unprofessionalism. Now that I’m the driver I try and maintain the professionalism I liked to see (plus with strict parents/military background it’s hard not to lol). But yea local is awesome, I run drybulk myself.

The receiver told me the wrong door once and I walked into the factory directly because they didn't lock the door I walked into, and I walked towards the trucker cage like welp... they gonna get mad at me for this one...
A random fork driver came by and said "they told you door 3 huh?" and I was like yeah. and he said "they don't count the big door" and I felt stupid.
But at least I wasn't a caged animal for the hour I had to wait.

Becoming a truck driver can sometimes feel like giving up one’s human rights.

I once was at a place in my country that had a lounge of sorts that was in reality "the cage" where drivers havw to sit and brood while their load was prepared. Warehouse owners had enough of drivers bumbling about in the warehouse and get hit by forklifts and cause a nuisance.
They correctly assumed that if they put a bunch of cheap IKEA couches, a TV and a coffee machine with free coffee in a room, most people have no problem with staying there for 30 minutes if ordered to.

At IP we had trailers drop their trailer and pull forward. They could wait in their cab. There was a smoke shack and a port a potty. This started after we watched a driver come into the locker room with a pair of BoBo’s and walked out with Kyle’s new Jordans. It only takes one turd to ruin the punch bowl.

The problem is. A lot of the truckers don’t follow the rules of the facility. We have that problem. There are signs everywhere, yet nobody seems to be able to see them. Or can read them. The drivers walk around the yard. Up the ramps. Our facility has many PIT’s running around. We have a new rule now. Any driver not following posted rules are sent away for 24 hours.

Tbf my ex recorded a video of a driver literally climbing up one and screaming at Amazon.

Truckers are not human and we are not responsible enough to be let out of the cage
Negative1Positive2@reddit
No, now quiet down in your cage!

I think you're giving them too much credit by asking if they could think.
timmahfast@reddit
Dehumanizing yes, but some truckers are closer to animals than human. So its okay.
