How do your siblings affect how close you relate to Gen X or Millennial?

Basically, how many of you have siblings that are firmly in either Gen X or Millennial and how does that affect which side you relate to more?
I have one sibling 5 years older than I am who identifies as Gen X, though on the young side of it, and having that sibling introduce me to a lot of the pop culture they were into when we were growing up helped me relate a tiny bit more to the Gen X side of things.
Does anyone else have similar experiences?

My (83) 2 brothers were born in 70 & 73 and my sis was born in 81. I definitely lean more towards the Gen X side in terms of who I vibe with.

Oh yeah. I am an '81 baby and my brother was born in '75. I definitely skew more GenX than Millennial in vibes and tastes.

My sister and her friends are prime Millennials. I'm 6yrs older then they are. I helped raise my sister, and then all her friends would come over to hang out at our house in high school. I was a college student and they were kids. My sister would have to show me how to use the latest social media platforms like Facebook. I don't know if I would've ever figured that kind of stuff out on my own. When we were older, she was late 20s and I was early 30s, we were really close and spent a lot of time with her friends. She always included me in their parties and get togethers. I could hang but never really fit in with them. I've always gotten along better with the Gen Xers. I grew up with older cousins, one was like an older sister to me. Our childhoods were shaped in ways that millennials never experienced.

78, 80, 87. I lean Gen X. My youngest sibling is definition of Millennial. My middle probably leans more Gen X because my friend’s little brothers were his friends and we all generally hung out growing up.

We are ‘77, ‘78, ‘81 and ‘84. We all identify as Xennial. None of us have ever truly felt Gen X or Millenial.
Wonderful_Hornet_756@reddit
What happened to 79? 🥺
imhereforthevotes@reddit
well, '77 and '78 happened to '79. Technically the second one probably really put the damper on things.

Similar here. We're '77, '78, '81, and '83. All four within the states ranges for this sub and all would identify with this group.
That said, as I've gotten older, I find myself having more in common with Millennials in some ways, but I think that's mostly because I've been working among people 5 to 10 years younger than me basically my whole career. So I've just had more exposure to that perspective, whereas growing up I would have felt closer to the X side of things.

My sister was born in '76 and I was born in '80. She was super impactful on me in regards to pop culture so I identify with Gen-X more than millennials.
bikeonychus@reddit
Both me and my husband's siblings are GenX. Yes, it does make us relate more to younger GenX, partly because we got all their hand-me-downs, and had similar experiences to them as we had the same upbringing as our siblings.
There are definitely folks our age who feel more Millennial. Friends our age who were the oldest sibling with much younger siblings were always a bit more millennial-tuned.
drainbamage1011@reddit
I'm '84, sister is '88. I feel like I got a lot of Gen X influence from my older cousins growing up, she seems more traditionally Millennial.
Into-the-stream@reddit
I have a sibling who is very firmly gen x, and I relate more to millennials (despite being an older xennial).
My sibling and I do not get along well. Never have. So if anything the fact that they are gen x probably made me go the opposite direction when I was a kid/teen.
Tedanki@reddit
I'm the oldest of my siblings, but spent a lot of time with my cousin who was born in 1970. He introduced me to a lot of Gen X music, like metal, indie, alternative rock, etc. I think because of that, I always felt more Gen X than Millennial.
But yeah, Xennial really is the most fitting description. Oregon Trail forever.
nochumplovesucka__@reddit
Well, I was born in 77 and my little sister was born in 84. Literally the span of our microgeneration.
When I was 14 and in 9th grade, I was definitely not hanging out with my 7 year old sister or any of her friends in 2nd grade.
So I most definitely feel more on the X side of things. I grew up hanging out with all of my older cousins who are most definitely Gen X. Just my experience
Separate_Counter9427@reddit
We are 80, 82, 85 and 86. We all relate more to Xennials.
It's true that your older siblings and cousins play a huge part in the way that you're raised. My younger sister is the last born in our generation of cousins.
We grew up with Nintendo, recording movies and songs on VHS Tapes and Casette Tapes respectfully. Spent the daylight hours outside no matter the weather.
GI Joe and Ninja Turtles (Xennial) over Power Rangers and SpongeBob (Millenial).
Nintendo and SNES (Xennial) over Playstation and GameCube/64 (Millennial).
Kelly Kapowski and Kelly Bundy over any lady in the early 2000s!
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
I am 85 and my sister is 82. I'm sure I would be utterly millennial if my sister was 88.
The fact we raised ourselves meant I was taking in culture from peers ans older children. One thing I underestimated is how quickly people would forget where they came from. The 90s were a foundation to me, but to perhaps my peers it was a phase.
Significant_Dog412@reddit
82 and the oldest sibling. Also a Brit so my timings on school and many shared pop culture things will be off from most here. Probably by default, I relate more to the Millennial side while feeling too old for many aspects of it.
My Sister is late enough 85 for us to have been four school years apart rather than three. Even so, she's closer to Xennial than typical Millennial and both of us finished school at 16 which probably further cuts us off from a lot of what has come to define Millennial.
Mememememememememine@reddit
Love this one. My sister is 78, I’m 81. One of the main reasons I do not feel gen X is how Gen X my sister is and that my life’s purpose is to be different from her.
The_Max-Power_Way@reddit
I'm 82, but my siblings are all 8 to 16 years older than me, so firmly gen-x. I still feel millennial, but a lot of my cultural touchstones are gen-x coded.
RylosAU@reddit
I was born in '77 and my brother in '67, so we are on opposite ends of the Gen-X spectrum. I feel like I lean more into Gen-X than he does and he has a few boomer traits, while I also identify a lot with millennials too. I guess that's why I'm here!
fermentedradical@reddit
I'm '80 got a sib born mid-80s and one late-80's. Definitely pulled towards the Millennial side of things
ChiefSampson@reddit
Wouldn't know I'm an only child.
Dandibear@reddit
77 here, raised with four much older siblings. Music is probably the main influence, and my preference is for 80s pop, although I do like 90s pop too. Thanks to them I saw the first episode of The Simpsons as it aired live. Ditto Pee-wee's Playhouse.
We did have a Commodore 64 then Atari then Nintendo though, so I have that Millennial edge on technology. I was more proficient at programming the VCR than anyone. 💪🏻
avocadoreader@reddit
We are all millennials but my brother and I are xennials (‘81 and ‘83). Our sister was born in ‘87 so more the middle of millennial. She is more of a stereotypical millennial I guess but mostly acts the same as us. There is a significant gap between what I remember and she remembers from the 80s/early 90s.
Soggy_Porpoise@reddit
My younger brother acts more genx I act more millennial it is what it is.
misterlakatos@reddit
My sisters are very much Millennial, though my middle sister is slightly closer to us while my youngest sister was born with about 5 months to spare in the '80s.
I will say (as someone with younger cousins) that 1992-93 feels like the real Millennial cutoff. Anyone born after that may as well be Gen Z to me.
usernames_suck_ok@reddit
My sisters are Gen X, and I'm the youngest and on the cusp. So, I hate that "millennial" label on me. There are only 2-3 millennial things I really relate to, and, off the top of my head, the main one is student loans.
nobot4321@reddit
I was born a few months before 1980. I have a sister 5 years older. She's solidly Gen X and I don't relate to that as much as I do to millennials. We definitely had different experiences with changes especially in music and technology happening at different points of our lives. Grunge hit right as I was starting to pay more attention to music and I was using the internet in high school. She was still listening to 80s music in high school and didn't have the internet until she was almost out of college.
Verbull710@reddit
I have a brother born in '69 and a sister born in '73, then me in '80 younger brother in '81
They're clearly X and different. Sister and older brother both had kids young, so I've been an uncle since i was 9. That group of younger nephews (6 of them in total) are all clearly Millennial and different
Firkster@reddit
I have an older sister born in 1977. Have never really discussed it with her, but she seems firmly Gen X to me. Which is why I don’t think I’m Gen X.
threefeetoffun-@reddit
My older sister was born in 77 and she’s Gen X. My younger sister 1984. No idea.
I like the older one. The younger one I havent spoken to in 27 years.
