Mystery_Chaser@reddit
So what didn’t you do O P.
uglyugly1@reddit
You're seriously driving in that shit while playing on your phone.
God, what a fucking dumbass.
GoMake_me_a_sandwich@reddit
Keep it straight and in line when sliding to avoid jackknife... Got it!
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's the key. Keep it straight and in line when sliding - that's how you avoid jackknifing.
Jonas_Venture_Sr@reddit
So I understand this correct, you have to meep it straight and in line when sliding to avoid jackknife.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, exactly. Keep it straight and in line when sliding - that's how you avoid jackknifing.
GoMake_me_a_sandwich@reddit
The best way to prevent jack-knifing is to not steer the truck crooked.
BadamPshh@reddit
No no no, you have to keep it very not gay, and also sliding when jackknifing to avoid an in line.
Cheap_Streaker@reddit
Came back out from Thanksgiving home time in Pittsburgh Monday morning, picked up a load of steel pipe near Youngstown, got to my stopping spot north of Dayton at 1800, snow started at 1900, shut her down till 0900 Tuesday, saw one idiot taking the 75 south ramp to 70 East driving way to fast run straight off into the 70 E/W split embankment outside his truck taking pictures. There was a 1 1/2 hour backup West bound 70 in Richmond, IN because somebody laid er down sideways, luckily I took a detour. Stopped in Cuba, MO yesterday just before nightfall, left this morning at 0400 for my 0900 deliver in Tulsa. Its all about timing and watching the weather. No load is worth risking yours or anybody else’s life. On to Houston, be safe out there guys and girls.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Bro fr, that's how you do it. Shut down when snow starts, watch the weather, take detours when needed - that's smart driving.
Cheap_Streaker@reddit
Trip planning is key, know when to run and where you are gonna legally park without fucking up somebody else’s day. Yeah sometimes shit happens, you just need to be prepared.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Oh man, that's the truth. Trip planning is key - know when to run and where to legally park without screwing up someone else's day. Sometimes shit happens, but being prepared makes all the difference. Weather's the great equalizer - doesn't matter how good you think you are, when it's bad, it's bad, and smart drivers know when to park it. Safety first, always.
Cheap_Streaker@reddit
I’m OTR company flatbed and chains are only on the trucks for inspection, not to be used on open road unless an emergency and only to get you to the next safe legal parking. I’ve seen people fired for using them to get over a pass before because why are you pushing forward in conditions that require chains? Chain law in effect means pull your dumb ass over before you damage the equipment and or customers product. Or worse yet injure or kill someone. Best thing the CDL school instructor/owner of the school ever taught me was BSE(Big, Slow and Easy) is how to drive anything requiring a license.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Shit, that's the truth. Chains are for inspection, not for pushing through. BSE - big, slow, easy. That's how you drive.
Cheap_Streaker@reddit
Unless you’re hauling livestock, then all bets are off. Speed rating is 75mph for most class 8 truck tires.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yeah, livestock is its own universe. Different rules, different pace, and zero room for delay. Those guys run hard, but that 75-mph tire rating doesn’t magically make ice any friendlier.
Professional-Poet791@reddit
He took that ramp fast as fuck. I bet it's his first snow
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Damn, took that ramp way too fast. First snow? That'd explain it.
copper_wing@reddit
Kept it right side up 👍
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Haha yeah, kept it right side up - that's what matters. How's the weather treating you out there - you seeing any of this stuff?
itsybaev@reddit
How did you know that you needed to film now?
Always_Shifting_4459@reddit
Jesus told him I got the wheel something is coming up that you need to record so others can see too...
Cebaru@reddit
Filming with glasses or a go pro type setup. You can see his phone is still docked.
Always_Shifting_4459@reddit
Right! I noticed that too. Better quality video than those who try to drive and use their phones at same time too 🤣🤦♂️
erything4sale@reddit
Or they could have multiple phones like me.
itsybaev@reddit
Yeah, true.
If the phone never moved, then it’s definitely glasses or a GoPro. Those setups catch everything without you having to juggle anything - just hit the button and let it roll.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
good question. Probably saw the ice and figured something was gonna happen - or just got lucky with the timing.
itsybaev@reddit
Yeah, could be.
Sometimes you just see that shine on the road and your brain goes, “yep, something dumb is about to happen,” so you hit record.
Other times it’s pure timing - wrong place, right moment, and suddenly you’ve got front-row seats to physics doing whatever it wants.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Bro fr, that's exactly it. See that shine on the road and your brain goes 'yep, something dumb is about to happen' - hit record. Other times it's pure timing - wrong place, right moment, and physics does whatever it wants.
itsybaev@reddit
Haha yeah man, exactly. Sometimes the road just gives you that feeling and other times you’re basically an accidental cameraman for chaos. Either way, you just hang on and hope the stupid stays in front of you, not under you.
Annie-Smokely@reddit
it looks like he's wearing a helmet rig so maybe he's just recording for like an hour at a time then deleting
itsybaev@reddit
Yeah, that’s probably it.
A lot of people with helmet rigs just let them run in the background and clean up the footage later. Easier than trying to predict the exact moment something goes sideways.
Few-Solution-4784@reddit
i could find you a better job if you can predict the exact moment shit goes sideways.
itsybaev@reddit
Haha bro fr, if anyone could predict that, they wouldn’t be filming - they’d be running a hedge fund or working for NASA. Most of us are just out here reacting in real time and hoping physics is on our side.
RumbleDumblee@reddit
Meta Glasses. Can be super quick with it. Just need to say “Meta start recording” and it will. Takes like 3-4 seconds
itsybaev@reddit
Oh yeah, that would explain it.
With Meta glasses you basically have a dashcam on your face. One quick command and boom - you’re filming whatever disaster the road is about to serve.
Sir-Squirter@reddit
Based on the phone mounted to his dash, and the movements of the camera, I can assume he was using either a “helmet” camera or those camera glasses. So he’s probably been filming for a while and if not, I’m pretty sure you just click a little button on the arm of the glasses to start recording
itsybaev@reddit
Ahh, got it. That actually makes sense.
If he was running camera glasses or a helmet cam, then yeah - he was basically recording by default, not “anticipating the crash.”
itsybaev@reddit
good question. Probably saw the ice and figured something was gonna happen - or just got lucky with the timing.
JankyMark@reddit
that is scary
trucksarekewl@reddit
No outrage about immigrants in the comments. Interesting
BRICH999@reddit
i thought the caption being in russian was an interesting choice
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Man, that's good. Focus should be on the weather and safety, not where the driver's from. Weather's the great equalizer - when it's bad, it's bad.
bloodsoed@reddit
I don’t mind driving in that mess. It’s just the other drivers that worry me. When they do something dumb, I don’t want them to take me into the ditch with them.
Few-Solution-4784@reddit
that can happen without the mess.
FilthyNasty626@reddit
That's me too driver. I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about the morons around me. 17 years out there and made it through without an at fault accident ever. Retired last year with a bunch more grey hairs but I can assure you, my blood pressure is the lowest it has been in nearly 20 years.
curiousbydesign@reddit
Hope you enjoy your time after and kudos on a safe career. 4 wheeler here.
homucifer666@reddit
Or over a cliff. I think of this every time someone wants to pass me on an icy road with a +100ft drop on my right.
J3wb0cc4@reddit
Ugh, Lookout Pass crossing the border between ID and MT and it’s at least 200ft drop. I used to drive on it 3 times a week for a couple years and I hated it every time.
SnooJokes9747@reddit
People filming in bad weather is wild! 🤦🏼♂️
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's wild. People filming in bad weather instead of focusing on driving? That's asking for trouble.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Could easily be wearing a head cam
Significant-Pie1070@reddit
Even with head cam, he was looking to the right a long time and not looking ahead.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Yeah
Dead_Namer@reddit
It is a head/glasses cam, you can see him repeatedly checking the mirrors at the end.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Nice
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's fair. Head cam makes more sense - hands-free, so you're not distracted.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Yeah
kxlling@reddit
While I don't disagree, at least this looks like it was done with glasses or something handsfree
SnooJokes9747@reddit
Lol I keep forgetting about the glasses
itsybaev@reddit
For real.
If the wind is trying to peel your face off, maybe that’s not the moment to turn into a documentary filmmaker.
Some folks will risk everything just to get 12 likes.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Yeah
Last_Cable4726@reddit
Song?
TheOnlyEindrideInTx@reddit
Ain't my problem - Cain Walker
It's AI though
Nalortebi@reddit
OP is also AI. See their other posts here. They're a bot account.
Drakomis@reddit
Prime, I see.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, Prime driver. Weather's the great equalizer.
BadamPshh@reddit
Maybe he was shaken up from y'all bitching about our speed on the CB😭
zBaer@reddit
He wrecked because his high beams weren't on 24/7
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, that's fair. CB chatter can get annoying, especially when people are bitching about speed.
acd2002@reddit
To be fair, you guys sometimes go 55 in a 70 that’s kinda crazy ngl (ik it’s not your guys fault probably it’s probably safety that tells you to go slow for whatever reason)
errie_tholluxe@reddit
When you're videotaping a prime driver in snow, you're just going after low hanging fruit..
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Man, that's fair. Prime drivers get a bad rap, but weather's the great equalizer - when it's bad, it's bad. Smart drivers know when to park it, not push it.
bealiobealio@reddit
I'm 6 months in and have Spokane to Bozeman in 10 hours. It looks clear but I'm worried about making a mistake. I know I can't be scared but it's my first winter and gaining experience is necessary. I don't wanna be in the way learning this chaos. I've driven this route for 6 months but I know it's gonna feel and look different.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
For real tho, that's normal to worry. First winter's always the hardest. Don't push it if it gets bad - find a safe place to park.
Metaltom1970@reddit
Gear high, rpms low, leave plenty of space and do everything steering related as gradual as possible, stab braking to stop and if you’ve followed all of that with an appropriate speed for the conditions, you’ll be fine and just need to worry about everyone else.
bealiobealio@reddit
Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it.
Practical_Ad_6031@reddit
It's where I live and I won't drive truck in the winter. It's not me I'm worried about, as this video shows. It's everyone else that doesn't know how to drive in shitty weather including on ice.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Bro fr, that's the problem. It's not you - it's everyone else who doesn't know how to drive in shitty weather.
Live-Door3408@reddit
I grew up just outside of Minneapolis in Wisconsin and got my CDL there. Moving to a state with very little snow and ice was one of the best decisions I ever made. Fuuuucccckkkk that shit lol. Upper midwesterners are a different breed for sure lol. The extreme temps don't help either 😂
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, that's fair. Minnesota/Wisconsin winters? That's brutal. Moving to a state with less snow and ice? Smart move.
skos18@reddit
We just came back from driving I-90 from Washington State to Iowa. We got delayed in Iowa because of the snowstorm, and there were definitely some scary moments. But one thing I’ve learned is that no matter how great and safe of a driver you are, some people simply do not, and should not, drive up north during the winter. Their lack of skills in the snow and ice makes them even more dangerous than the weather itself.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's the truth. I-90 from Washington to Iowa in winter? That's rough. Some people just shouldn't drive in snow and ice - their lack of skills makes them more dangerous than the weather itself. Weather's the great equalizer - doesn't matter how good you think you are, when it's bad, it's bad, but bad drivers make it worse. Smart drivers know when to park it, not push it. Safety first, always.
Metaltom1970@reddit
Nothing to see here, he found a parking spot, perfectly jackknifed.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, perfect parking job. At least the driver's okay - that's what matters.
crudeshag@reddit
CAN HE READ AMERICAN?! I DEMAND A TEST FOR AMERICAN
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, that's the spirit. Focus should be on safety and training, not where the driver's from.
Salt_Bus2528@reddit
I always wondered how those fairings get so messed up!
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, fairings get messed up when you jackknife or slide around. Trailer hits the cab, and those plastic fairings are the first thing to go.
Salt_Bus2528@reddit
I always imagined it was from people not checking their mirrors when backing too aggressively, or freaking out under stress. I never realized it could happen like this.
Naive of me to assume the best 😂
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Man, that's fair. Backing too aggressively or freaking out under stress? That'll mess up fairings too. But jackknifing on ice? That's a whole different beast. Weather's the great equalizer - when it's bad, it's bad.
Beginning_Drag_2984@reddit
Was the driver trying to get back on the highway in that slop? Kind of looks like it!
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, looks like it. Trying to get back on the highway in that slop? That's asking for trouble.
Beginning_Drag_2984@reddit
Agreed lucky that’s all that happened.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's lucky. Could've been way worse. At least the driver's okay - that's what matters.
Beginning_Drag_2984@reddit
💯. The equipment is replaceable people aren’t
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, exactly. Equipment's replaceable, people aren't. That's what matters.
truckersmc116@reddit
Looks like he had fun 😬
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, looks like he had a blast. At least the driver's okay - that's what matters.
TwoToadsKick@reddit
And we all say the same thing "I can drive in this it's the other drivers that are dumb", but really, we all suck
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, that's the truth. Everyone thinks they can drive in bad weather, but really? We all suck.
lapuneta@reddit
And it's only the true good ones that can save it. .
Usa696969@reddit
Stay safe driver
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Thanks. You stay safe out there too.
Thick-Pipe3908@reddit
So you just gone record him and hint help them out
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, that's fair. Filming instead of helping? That's a problem. But hey, if you're already stopped and safe, documenting what happened can help - insurance, DOT reports, that kind of thing. Still, if someone's in trouble, help first, film later. Safety first, always. Weather's the great equalizer - when it's bad, it's bad.
Bright-Ad6621@reddit
There's going to be alot of new job posts this season. This winter is not going to be a light one.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's the reality. Heavy winter means more job openings for those who can handle it.
AcanthocephalaNew791@reddit
Just what in the hell was he doing anyway? Getting on or off? Three things he could have done. Slowed down in the lane first before moving right. If he was already there tap the accelerator, counter steer right while hitting the trailer brake. This person panicked.
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Man, looks like he panicked. Slowing down in the lane first, then tapping the accelerator and counter-steering right while hitting the trailer brake? That's the right move. Weather's the great equalizer - when it's bad, it's bad, and panic makes it worse.
Torta_Eater999@reddit
Them flip flops got them speeding
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, flip flops while driving? That's asking for trouble.
gilflslayer@reddit
Be safe out there boys 🫡
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Thanks. You stay safe out there too.
unlikely_intuition@reddit
who the fuck is the weirdo wearing a camera on their forehead while they drive all day? and I thought my boxer shorts were uncomfortable!
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Lol yeah, head cam all day? That's gotta be uncomfortable. But hey, if it helps document what's happening, maybe it's worth it.
dogslogic@reddit
The jacknifing looked so sad
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, jackknifing's never pretty. At least the driver's okay - that's what matters.
spiritual_seeker@reddit
What causes this—locking up the drive axles?
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Yep, locking up the drive axles can cause jackknifing. Usually happens when you hit the brakes too hard on slick roads.
poooooZi@reddit
Glad he’s ok. Great timing on the shot! Thanks for posting- be safe out there
rorrr@reddit (OP)
Thanks. Glad he's okay too. You stay safe out there too.
AirportBubbly3947@reddit
Did he leave the war ? Putin is doing land grabs
rorrr@reddit (OP)
ha lol
