I was attacked in a Staples today!

A combo CD, mp3 player Bluetooth speaker.... With wired headphones....
I didn't need this, however, it is made better by the fact I had two margaritas at lunch.
Northern_Lights_2@reddit
But where will you get the CD’s to play on it?
SoupIsNotAMeal@reddit
I have a box of 50 blank CD-Rs. 🙂
Northern_Lights_2@reddit
Ahahaha mixed tape CD’s. I used to make them all the time! But how will you burn them?
SoupIsNotAMeal@reddit
I think they still make burners
Xxochitll@reddit
They do. I bought one not long ago because I have a couple of boxes of CD's that need burned and DVD's I like to watch, not to mention an entire collection of CD's I still listen to now and then just because I can.
XxFezzgigxX@reddit
I had this bad boy. If you so much as breathed on it, your music would start skipping. Plus, it could suck down two AA batteries in an hour.
akela9@reddit
I can't tell how big this is. I always got tech late because what we could afford my dad got it, first. So my first portable when everyone else my age was using a sleek Sony Discman was about the size of a shoebox and weighed as much as a brick. The quality was so bad that was much as I wanted to play CD's, I just... Didn't. 😂
Xxochitll@reddit
I can relate but my sister got everything first and I got it when she got something better. 🙄 I got my first radio when I was in 6th grade.
here4dambivalence@reddit
You make me wonder if they at least made the Aiwa rechargeable, or if they're going to take us for every last pair of AA batteries we own every 2-3 CDs...
LoungeFly1984@reddit
My ONLY cd player was an AIWA back in 1996. No anti-skip… I was the only person who could hold it just at the right angle and it would never skip. I used it until 2003. Excellent, quality build! Memories!
IanCrapReport@reddit
"retro": Those are fighting words if my back wasn't killing me
PinSufficient5748@reddit
...the disrespect
Don-Poltergeist@reddit
Looks like they went defunct in 2002, song bought the right and sat on it until 2017 when some of the original people from the company bought the name back from Sony.
SAUCE
RealityOk9823@reddit
Was just reading that. Might be decent then?
redtesta@reddit
Omg grab it!!!
magsli@reddit
The Zs and Alphas are into CDs now. Look at this: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrfUBxdx/
Embarrassed-Bike3450@reddit
AIWA the 🐐out here still making money!
_TheWolfOfWalmart_@reddit
I had two Aiwa AV receivers back in the day! They were such good value for the money.
_TheWolfOfWalmart_@reddit
I hate that this is "retro" now so much.
_NoleFan6@reddit
I had the Aiwa CA-DW550U (googled it lol) home cd player. I miss that thing

If it was a shelf system with a multi disc tray, I would want one. I tired the whole multi format with a turntable, and I just could not get it to work OR give a shit about vinyl. Give me the 'load all 5 Green Day albums, hit suffle, relax and enjoy' anyday!
Themoosemingled@reddit
Panasonic shockwave or it doesn’t count.
Shirkaday@reddit
Discman (or "CD Walkman") or nothing for me!
I had the OG "Car Discman" and later various iterations the "car ready" "CD Walkman" ... which no one ever called it, hence the quotes. It's a Discman. Bass boost and mad high ESP! Thing could fly around inside the car on sharp turns and be fine.
Themoosemingled@reddit
My parents got a watchman! God did I love that thing.
rulenumber62@reddit
This was my Aiwa: https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/s/AGnBq71Qkf
1ndomitablespirit@reddit
I'd totally buy one of their bookshelf stereos again if I could. They don't even have to change the design. We shouldn't need a subwoofer to hear some bass.
Lowspark1013@reddit
I had one with a turntable on top. Only used it to pretend DJ scratching records. I had a 45 of Walk this Way Run DMC and Aerosmith. Which had its own recorded scratching. So I was really going Meta.
SmittyComic@reddit
that cd player back in late 90s early 2000s would have been $59.99 - $99.99
and we would have wanted it so bad, but got the Philco for $49.99
then paid $18.99 for a CD of a band we only liked two songs on
Lowspark1013@reddit
Yeah this $29 is cheap AF.
TraditionalTackle1@reddit
I worked at Target from 2000-2005 in electronics and we had an entire aisle of portable CD players around this time of year. We had a sony one that was $120. People would buy the cheap audivox that were $20 and break a day after the warranty expired lol.
SmittyComic@reddit
headphones that one side would go out on the same day you opened it.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
Would 100% buy this if I saw it too.
distortedview@reddit
Poor aiwa. Look what they did to you!
SemicolonGuitars@reddit
This makes me want to fling poop like a feral orangutan.
aceshighsays@reddit
i hope it can play files because then i'll be able to listen to the mixes i made in the late 90's.
Pooleh@reddit
But does it have anti skip?!
Adept_Jaguar8613@reddit
Almost certainly not. When it was premium tech you had lots of suppliers with the top end competing on quality. Older tech, you have fewer suppliers basically all competing on price.
This is also why people love vintage turntables and audio equipment
Shirkaday@reddit
Hayylllll, it probably just rips the CD to MP3 and plays off that!
quittersprosper@reddit
Seriously beat me to the “how many seconds of skip protection?!”
ezmoney98@reddit
It has extra skip
vand3lay1ndustries@reddit
Do you mean a bunch of tissues for it to sit on in the glovebox?
ShibaInuDoggo@reddit (OP)
Hopefully that and bass boost
threefeetoffun-@reddit
Was gonna ask the same
erosmoker@reddit
$1000 bucks says this is just repackaged stock from 1998.
UnderAKillingMoon@reddit
Aiwa a place to stay Get cho booty on the floor tonight
eyelers@reddit
Just bought my 7 yo an Aiwa boom box. lol
AdvancedDay7854@reddit
I need the compact stereo system. Damn that thing was something
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
I found an AIWA Cassette player also like this at the local TJ MAXX

Flashback Audio Kit Hey You Yeah You You're Old LOL
turntabletennis@reddit
My 13yo ran up to me all excited while we were shopping in a resale shop.
"DAD! Will you buy this for me?"
presents off-brand discman
"Only if it has ESP...."
The1Zenith@reddit
My partner and I saw this in Staples the other day too. It made us both feel old but I was honestly tempted to buy it.
Mexican_Boogieman@reddit
First real paycheck i bought a Sony with bass last and anti skip. It’s like $130 in 1998.
Neat-Gift-3624@reddit
TraditionalTackle1@reddit
Was Smashing Pumpkins playing in the store on the classic rock station?
ShibaInuDoggo@reddit (OP)
As if!
16yearswasted@reddit
I'm sorry, does this come with the old school foam headphones AND earbuds? those things are going to fall apart after three wears, guaranteed.
Tahdel2362@reddit
I'm not interested I still have my portable Aiwa cd player with 10 second anti shock system manufactured in May 1998.
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
Hey oldie, yeah you! Technology bumming you out? Did the world go and get into a big hurry? Remember the good old days of holding a cd player really still so it wouldn’t skip? Well we have got the thing for you!
LemonPartyW0rldTour@reddit
I had an Aiwa CRT television and I miss it. Great picture and good sound.
Funkopedia@reddit
Okay i know where I'm headed after work
BrokeAssZillionaire@reddit
