Someone in the permit office is getting fired. Ramp to i-20 from 285 in Atlanta. Oversize load stuck between the jersey barriers.

Even if Pope would sign under, it doesnt matter. It will always end up being driver fault
Repulsive_Repeat_337@reddit
State employees never get fired. Whoever's responsible for this will get 2 hours of extra training, then do it again next week.
Rare_Indication_3811@reddit
I dont remember which state exactly has it but I read not long time ago specifically written in permit, that even if directions are wrong or if anything happen to truck/load whatever while driving on permitted road they not responsible. It made me laugh
InsaneAdam@reddit
Are you high? There's no way they're going to miss out on their 6 weeks paid leave while they investigate themselves.
TactualTransAm@reddit
That shit infuriates me. If I fuck up I'm gone immediately. They get paid leave while their own party investigates them.
Repulsive_Repeat_337@reddit
We have examined our own behavior and found ourselves blameless.
Caeyr@reddit
Holy shit, I passed these guys earlier today leaving Covington, GA to go to Perry, Ga

No idea how they made it around. Everyone else was diverted down to next exit to turn around and come back from the other direction. They either had to move 200+ barricades or back his big ass out and modify the permit in the middle of 285 to find another way around.

Doesn’t it still fall on pilot, escorts & driver? If the folks who handle the permits knew enough, there wouldn’t be all the additional help. 🤣
diandays@reddit
Pilots would have no control over something like this if the permit says you can go through and you are already at a point of no return.
That says nothing about the number of mislabeled bridges all over the place. If a bridge is labeled 16'2 is should be that. Not 15"7. Not 16'6
cnash@reddit
Your pilot car should be far enough ahead of you that you can at least stop before you get wedged into the concrete.
This load doesn't look wide enough to require a lead car on the interstate in Georgia, but if there was one, he screwed up, bad, not calling this out in time for the driver to slow and stop.
c0caine_cinderella@reddit (OP)
Probably but i’ve never seen a horizontal pole car
pinchevato57@reddit
Ehh not really. The load and the permits person will be just fine, to be honest.
FUDYUK@reddit
There is ALWAYS something happening at that ramp. For years and years and years.
Affectionate_Web_672@reddit
So many unknowns. He could be in the right, following the route and between construction and state no one has given a width of those. In that case, it just is what it is. Move the barriers and let him go.
Or he’s in the wrong, was supposed to take the top loop to 20 where there’s a larger merge and in a lot of trouble. Who knows. Hopefully they were on route and the escorts and driver can get on about their day.
Heck of a traffic mess though 🤮
TruckerChet1973@reddit
Rule#1. Don't hit $hit.
Jondiesel78@reddit
I had GA permit me straight through ATL on 75 with a 10'2" load. I called the permit office and asked are you sure you want me to go this route? The stupid woman on the phone told me if I didn't like the route, I could apply for another permit. When I asked for a supervisor, I was given attitude. The supervisor thanked me for catching it, and sent me a new permit free of charge, plus a refund for the original
LookBackground473@reddit
Am I the only one who doesn’t see how it’s stuck?
edsavage404@reddit
Load too wide, road too narrow
LookBackground473@reddit
I just don’t see it 🤷🏼 looks like it has plenty of space on both sides
c0caine_cinderella@reddit (OP)

Has concrete barriers on both sides
cheesenuggets2003@reddit
Much better picture; thank you.
DickWoodReddit@reddit
Yea because the oversized truck, ead car, follower car, multiple cops, and road emergency crews all decided to just stop in the middle of the interstate for no reason
grumpus_ryche@reddit
Road looks like it's curving to the left. Big straight line jammed in too narrow of a curve. Can't make the turn.
Prior-Ad-7329@reddit
That work truck has a flat steer tire
tvieno@reddit
They need to go after those carriers that hire these guys. I mean, that's what you all say when other people do stupid things, right?
daemonescanem@reddit
Thats so on brand for ATL.
Newsdriver245@reddit
Well, the sign does say SLOW TRAFFIC AHEAD, accurate.
Delicious_Peace_2526@reddit
They’ll blame the driver.
Mkrvgoalie249@reddit
Were there two of these units back to back, by any chance?
FibTheJay@reddit
Just spit on it
terrydennis1234@reddit
It’s bold of you to assume the driver had a permit in the first place.
c0caine_cinderella@reddit (OP)
Just noticed the road rangers front tire is flat too.
SubarcticFarmer@reddit
Probably just a pothole, it's Atlanta after all.
Crazyscorpion77@reddit
And that spot is pretty bad if their fixes have come apart
JankyMark@reddit
Seems like this happens way more often nowadays, I feel like they let anybody haul oversized loads
Edge2110@reddit
A lot of the time these trips are planned weeks in advance then all of a sudden road work shows up that wasn’t there before
c0caine_cinderella@reddit (OP)
Yeah this has been there for several months
Inspector-34@reddit
Annnnnnd it’s about to to be rush hour. What a mess
