The day after I heard he died I got curious. Turns out the t shirt was for sale on his website. I bought one. Wore it once. It got a burn hole from someone's cigar ash at a bar. I ordered another one.
middlepathways@reddit
So good! A buried gem for sure
outlawpersona@reddit
This is my go-to comfort movie.
CaterpillarWaltz@reddit
I love this movie so much. I did entire “digital art” (that’s what we called it then) class projects in college based on it. Still kind of hate Illustrator but adore the movie.
boogerholes@reddit
This is in the top three of my favorite movies
bionicbhangra@reddit
Did we ever see this character before Val did it?
The genius who is cool and always has a comeback or something funny to say?
We saw it a lot afterwards (i.e Ferris, Iron Man, etc). I don't remember seeing anything like this before Val did it.
ElectricRune@reddit
Doctor Who, maybe?
Darkling_13@reddit
Tom Baker, the 4th doctor, was definitely my introduction to the whimsical genius type.
ElectricRune@reddit
My favorite Doctor!
Darkling_13@reddit
He'll always be who I think of first, when someone mentions Dr Who!
bionicbhangra@reddit
I never saw it but I believe you if you saw he did it first.
AZbitchmaster@reddit
When I saw his biopic "Val", seeing his own home movies, I kind of thought Val's personality was kind of similar to Chris.
Open_Gur_6204@reddit
Anyone know what one of Jerry’s lab team says to him when they first brought young Mitch into the lab? A bit after the ‘up the dosage’ line. Sounds like “das clown…….’
DariosDentist@reddit
My first slacker comedy
Seeing Laslo show up decades later as Uncle Rico means God exists
Abject_Elevator5461@reddit
Love this movie. Was on repeat on HBO back in the day.
Wild-Ad-2721@reddit
It’s my favorite. I spent my adolescence trying to build lasers before puberty turned me stupid.
Tony_Tanna78@reddit
Moles and trolls, moles and trolls, work, work, work, work, work. We never see the light of day. We plan this thing for weeks and all they want to do is study. I'm disgusted. I'm sorry but it's not like me, I'm depressed. There was what, no one at the mutant hamster races, we only had one entry into the Madame Curie look-alike contest and he was disqualified later. Why do I bother?
Stardustquarks@reddit
Have you ever seen a body like that before in your life??
She’s my daughter.
Oh, well then I guess you have…
ChrisChuck1@reddit
Can you hammer a 6” spike through a board with your penis?
Stardustquarks@reddit
Girl has to have her standards…
Tony_Tanna78@reddit
Hammer on.
Open-Cryptographer83@reddit
Hands down, it is my favorite film.
cmgww@reddit
Great film! Saw it a ton on HBO as a kid/teen.
That’s Lazlo Ollyfeld. He was the big man on campus in the 70s. (Whispers) Smarter than you and me combined….
Getting some renovations done to the old house, Jerry?? Fraud…is a felonnnny
Dr. Hathaway, and I saw this because I care. There are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing
pickoneforme@reddit
fun fact: Lazlo Ollyfeld is Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite. the actor’s name is Jon Gries.
RedditGotSoulDoubt@reddit
He’s also on White Lotus
cmgww@reddit
Yeah, I knew that one. I remember seeing Napoleon dynamite in the theaters and thinking “that guy looks familiar”… went home and didn’t Internet search and found out that was him!!
Harlander77@reddit
Chris, I want to see more of you around the lab.
Fine, I'll gain weight.
dirtbagmagee@reddit
I like how the poster makes you think it takes place in an office setting. Weird
PuzzleheadedAbies678@reddit
Doesn't take a Real Genius to know this is an amazing little movie
Nonsenseinabag@reddit
I was obsessed with lasers for years after this movie came out.
DreadPirateR2891@reddit
"Would you be prepared if gravity reversed itself? The only thing I can't figure out is how to keep the change in my pockets. I've got it. Nudity!"
jsinkwitz@reddit
Real Genius and Top Secret are two of my favs
Special-Fix-3320@reddit
Me watching Napoleon Dynamite for the first time:
"Why does Uncle Rico look so fam- OH MY GOD IT'S FUCKING LAZLO!"
orthomonas@reddit
I first knew him as Boots from The Pretender.
ChaoticForkingGood@reddit
I got overly excited seeing him in The White Lotus.
DBE113301@reddit
I'm thinking about naming my son after you. I think Dipshit Knight has a nice ring to it.
cmh_ender@reddit
ICE IS NICE
though not in todays context...
great movie. annual watch for me.
ocarina_vendor@reddit
Jordan was such an awkward cutie. I had a crush on her, for sure.
DesdemonaDestiny@reddit
The prototypical manic pixie dream girl.
cmgww@reddit
The actress who played her only had a few other screen credits and basically disappeared from movies…from what I remember. Just left the industry
BrattyTwilis@reddit
Underrated for sure. Never heard of it until I joined Reddit
Quixotegut@reddit
Who, within our generation, underrates this movie?!?
TheRoadkillRapunzel@reddit
It is my favorite movie from the 80’s, bar none.
Every time someone wants to watch Revenge of the Nerds, I insist that we watch Real Genius instead.
Kairiste@reddit
I used to be able to quote the entire movie start to finish. Had it recorded on VHS and wore out the tape I watched it so often, I can still remember the stretched tape sound just as the recording kicked in.
GeetarEnthusiast85@reddit
Jerry, if you think that by threatening me you can get me to be your slave...well, that's where you're right.
joey_oaks@reddit
To this day I will say that doing some random ass task is “a moral imperative”. One of my all time favorite movies.
Flashy-Carpenter7760@reddit
Not over-rated, perfectly rated according to Reddit.
ThatFalafelGirl@reddit
A mutual love of this film is how my now husband and I became friends. 5 ish years later we showed it at our movie theater secret wedding. :D
I absolutely adore this movie 😍
Daddy616@reddit
Criminally underrated
JoeInOR@reddit
Your laborers, you’re supposed to be laboring! That’s what you get for not having an education.
selceeus@reddit
Dropping in to say, this is one of my favorite movies!
TeutonJon78@reddit
While I love this movie, it is a bit problematic by today's standards with a college sophomore/junior dating a 15 yo.
Darkling_13@reddit
And Patti D'Arbanville's character saying she'd been waiting three years for him to be ready!
TeutonJon78@reddit
Yes, that's actually way worse.
darkwesley@reddit
NGL, this movie and its quotes framed so much of my young life. Inspired me to think that you could be smart and cool (not that I accomplished it, but a kid could dream).
lonely_nipple@reddit
Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in some sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?
highlyfavored1234@reddit
https://i.redd.it/pnoigs92iu4g1.gif
scizzix@reddit
One of my favorite movies. So insanely quotable.
misterlakatos@reddit
Agreed it's underrated. It does not get discussed enough in comparison to similar films from that time period.
I still cannot believe Val Kilmer is gone.
TheLakeWitch@reddit
I agree! I’d never even heard of this movie til my early 20s when my engineer student friends brought it for a movie night.
cedarvalleyct@reddit
Trippy. Earlier today, I walked past a bumper sticker that read, “I ❤️ TOXIC WASTE” and thought, “why does this sound familiar?”
A few hours later, here we are.
Designer-Bid-3155@reddit
He's FANTASTIC in the TV show Psych!!! Dobson!!!
ChrisChuck1@reddit
And from now on, stop playing with yourself.
It is God!
ChaoticForkingGood@reddit
I was hot and hungry!
ChaoticForkingGood@reddit
A-fucking-men. One of my fave movies.
mouse6502@reddit
It’s coming? Hah! It’s not even breathing hard!
Artee5000@reddit
I strangely want popcorn whenever "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" comes on.
therealfetusfajitas@reddit
For example, this is filed under “H” for toy.
drtrobridge@reddit
One of the most quotable comedies of the 80s IMO.
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
popcorn
onagdbicycle@reddit
"This is ice. This is what happens to water when it gets too cold. This? This is Kent. This is what happens to people when they get too sexually frustrated."
WindTall5566@reddit
Baked_Potato_732@reddit
Congrats, you used the term “underrated” properly on Reddit.
Usually I see it with something like “The Lord of the Rings movies are so underrated”
bio4m@reddit
I love this movie, I rewatch this and Top Secret every so often
Still crack up at the scene where Val Kilmers character meets the girl at the professors house and she asks him if he can hammer a nail in with a certain body part...
Somegirls85@reddit
Don't you know eating that stuff makes you have very large breasts. Oh my god I am to late!
