5070 TI with 650w PSU

So, I’ve been running a 3070 ti with my 10+ y/o EVGA 650w gold certified, and I was thinking of upgrading to a 5070 ti.
I noticed all sites seem to say 750w minimum for the 5070 ti, but I looked at the wattage ratings; my 3070 ti is rated at 310w, and 5070 ti’s are rated at 300w.
If I undervolt and overclock, I should be fine.. right?

I'm running 5070ti + 7500f on cooler master mwe gold 650v2, in CPU/GPU stress test, cpu pulls arround 100w with PBO and gpu set to 116% power arround 300w, system runs totally fine without any random shutdowns

I got my asus prime 5070ti... it has a adapter that takes 3 pci cables input but I only have 2 pci plugs on my 650v2 mwe coolermaster.. how didi you manage to connect your 5070ti to the mwe 650?

My psu has 4 8-pins connectors
Damn-Sky@reddit
I only got one 8pin to pci-e cable with two 6+2 plugs.
So I need to but one more pci-e cable right? does the brand matter or a no name one is equally safe?

Nop you need to buy a new atx3.1 psu (750w or more preferrably), adding third party adapters is a recipe for disaster
Damn-Sky@reddit
but you said you are using cooler master mwe gold 650v2... I have the cooler master mwe gold 650v2 ... one slot is free on the PSU but I don't have any additionnal pci-e cable to connect it ... you are saying you are using the 5070ti on your cooler master mwe gold 650v2 but it is a recipe for disaster?

Yours is modular ? Mine is the non modular version it came with 4 8-pins, if yours is modular and has an empty slot for a pcie cable, then look for official cooler master adapters for maximum compatibility

mine is modular. I just found out an extra pci-e cable in the PSU box. So now I have 2 pci-e cables, each cable splits into 2 pci-e plugs. So I have 4 pci-e plugs.
My ASUS 5070 ti prime has an adapter than needs 3 pci-e plugs... i plugged 2 main pci-e plugs to it and one from one of the splitted pci-e cable... the GPU fans turn on but I have no video ... cannot even access bios... did you have the same issue?
does your 5070 ti takes 3 pci-e or only 2?
when pc is not turned on, the 5070 ti shows a red light. the red light turn off when I turn on the pc... do you also have a red light?

What processor are you using?

Ryzen 7 5800x, same one I put in 5 years ago; see no reason to upgrade, doesn’t bottleneck anything.

Should be fine, they are just cautious that's all.

It uses 300W max, let's say 350W for some silly overclock.
You CPU probably pulls another 150W.
That means in absolute worst case (p95 and furmark at the same time) you still have 150W for other components, which is more than fine.
