Good luck getting drivers for the holidays. The main draw of my contractor I worked for was if you did a good job they would keep you. Then they fired them on Christmas Eve.
fantom_frost42@reddit
Oh damn i was actually looking to get hired with them. I seen them all the time as their terminal was right down the road from where i pick up at
WolvTheHero@reddit
I considered them earlier this year while looking for a new job after leaving UPS. After talking to them about the position a bit the job schedule and some other things sounded like they’d suck even more than what I was already dealing with. Glad I went elsewhere. I hate job hunting. Hopefully those drivers that lost their job can land somewhere decent.
Sweet_Ad_9430@reddit
Yeah same here, I told that lady, “ lies from the table cloth”
Largofarburn@reddit
Man, they always seem to be flying down the road.
I figured they’d be solid getting all that government cheese too.
SashaDabinsky@reddit
None of their trucks I drove would go over 67 or 68 MPH.
Sweet_Ad_9430@reddit
The truck I drive only goes 68 and them fools would pass me like I was stopped
ThePinkMohawk@reddit
Up here near Chicago they always did that 67-68 no matter what the speed limit was
Artyom_33@reddit
Bro... I'm a Chicago native as well.
Who actually DOES the speed limit???
ThePinkMohawk@reddit
I mean in my semi I follow the limit pretty close unless I'm on the highway...
Artyom_33@reddit
I mean... yeah.. I guess.
I brake for road work, I'm not trying to make a widow & fatherless children.
Other than that...
Jermaphobe456@reddit
As a Class A driver for the post office I feel mixed
On one hand, it sucks for the employees in general to be out of work and I sympathize
On the other, less dangerous drivers speeding in our yards and possibly more work/hours for us.
MachStyle@reddit
I'm glad I'm not the only one to realize that most 10roads drivers seem to always be hauling ass everywhere. Roads, yards, and truck stops.
Freightshaker000@reddit
TTO here. How many of these route won't we get?
Jermaphobe456@reddit
Nome, they'll get thrown off to the MVO's 🤣
WolvTheHero@reddit
I thought USPS was getting rid of all outside contractors? That’s kinda why I figured 10 roads is shutting down
Freightshaker000@reddit
That's what we all thought last year at this time and we were expecting our route bids (last month) to reflect that, but no.
Ok_Pin981@reddit
Too big too fast.
Teamster508@reddit
Been around for 47 years
Pocket_Biscuits@reddit
Dang. Was hoping to maybe go to them in a few months. wages for my area was comparable to some fuel hauling.
Trick-Truth197@reddit
We both dodged a bullet. They wanted to hire me for a local job but went with another candidate at the very last second. God blessed me with an even better local job the next day, so I wasn’t even mad about it.
Trucker_Trent@reddit
This, is what happens when you put every single egg in one basket
socialrage@reddit
I really enjoy the part where they attempt to blame the Teamsters. It was a very small workgroup that are Union.
Tricky_Big_8774@reddit
They literally say it is unclear if the labor dispute has anything to do with the shutdown. Go shill elsewhere.
socialrage@reddit
Then why bring it up at all?
Tricky_Big_8774@reddit
To get people to read the article about the labor dispute.
socialrage@reddit
I'm going out on a limb here, but it's probably because of horrible management.
At least that's what my buddy told me. Just absolutely horrible management.
sisypheanattack@reddit
Unions always make it harder on the company. When you prioritize workers, there is less flexibility for market shifts. Not saying it's what did them in but unions always make firing or shedding labor costs difficult. That's why unions exist, to protect labor.
Sentinel_steel@reddit
Dude I was just talking to them a couple months ago I almost signed on with them. So happy I didn't.
Outrageous-Arm-7273@reddit
That's kind of funny cuz I just saw a post by them for a seasonal job in my area
Southern_Talk_7838@reddit (OP)
Seasonal for 60 days I guess
jmzstl@reddit
Wow that's a big one. 10 Roads has been buying up other postal contractors for years, to the point where they're probably the biggest one left. This is also at least the third large postal contractor to shut down in three years. Midwest Transport closed last year, and Matheson shut down in 2023.
I've noticed a lot of newer, smaller companies hiring drivers for USPS loads in my area, so I wonder if 10 Roads was getting squeezed out or if there was some other reason that they decided to wind things down on their own terms.
Southern_Talk_7838@reddit (OP)
Don't think they can get squeezed out on contracted rates. My guess is that they got too greedy around the covid bubble, undercut rates and now they are seeing these routes actually cost more to run than what they bring in. There are a few other large carriers who are tettering on shutting their doors.
TossAway44now@reddit
Chalk this up to the USPS changing the rules, they allowed Brokers to bid on dedicated freight, allowed non domiciled CDL's, put crazy requirements on routes which could result in singular decision to revoke multi million dollar contracts, pushing unreasonable service expectations and worst of all allowing Brokers to operate outside of the Service Contract Act therefore cutting anyone who complies to an uncompetitive pricing model.
gordie61@reddit
I worked for MidWest Transport for a short time. I don't know how they stayed in business as long as they did. Nice people, but absolutely terrible, borderline dangerous equipment.
Miller8017@reddit
Rumor around the contractor i worked for was they were wanting to cut down majorly on routes across the U.S. they wanted to cut our local routes to all the offices around the hub to one pickup a day, and returning to the hub with the night before mail.
Dope-in-real-LIFE@reddit
Good riddance 🤷🏾♂️
edsavage404@reddit
Did they closed because USPS is going to end all outside carriers contracts or was it something else?
bigced903@reddit
I used to work with them bastards when they were Eagle Express Lines. I'm shocked they're closing but obviously they didn't expand away from hauling mail and it bit them in the end.
unloader86@reddit
I knew there fly you in program wasn't going to work. They offered me a great gig, but when push came to shove I asked if they were going to be around to employee me in another 2 years. The recruiter I got must've not had the juice yet, because she said, "no comment."
found_ur_aeroplane@reddit
Dang there goes my plan B.
Based on their drivers, I always figured I could get a job there if ever someone dropped a hammer on my head
SashaDabinsky@reddit
I can't believe they shut down before EVO Transportation. I worked for 10 Roads in Iowa for a short time, and the place was a complete mess of miscommunication and lack of communication. When I got hired I was told 10 paid holidays, which turned out to be work the holidays and get paid. I quit the day before Thanksgiving when they initially told me I had the day off, then called me while I was sleeping to tell me they were wrong, and I needed to come in that night. I told them I stayed up later than normal since I was told I had the day off, I'm not fit to drive, and I quit.
