What was your first car?

I had a 1986 Camaro, a hand me down from my mom. The rich kid in my class got a brand new 94 Camaro. My dad sprang for a new paint job, so mine looked just as nice.

A 91 Ford Probe! I loved that thing so much that I ended up having 3 different ones in a row. I still remember my dad paying 3k for it. Imagine buying a 6-7 year old running car for that today.

Was it bitchin?

1982 Oldsmobile Delta ‘88. That thing was a boat and would occasionally die when at a light. So you would keep your foot on the brake and gas. Would also keep a screwdriver in the glovebox to throw into the carburetor in case air flow got messed up.

1989 Toyota Camry. My grandpa quit driving and gave me his car!
Dorkus_Mallorkus@reddit
Similar here. 1990 Accord. Grandma wasn't able to drive anymore. I had that car from 1996 until 2005, at which point I realized I was spending more on fixing a new problem every month than it was worth.

I was almost a Nissan 280Z 2+2 in Dallas Cowboys colors. Not that I'm a fan of the Cowboys.
Then it was almost a Peugeot 505 STI.

I would not answer this question if you use this as one of your security questions.
intensenerd@reddit
Even if you don’t… if you provide true answer and then it gets banked by nefarious actors and used at a later date, it makes things more complicated and difficult to reclaim yourself.

Yeah - I think about this every time I see the infinite number of posts "innocently" asking for personal information - hiw old are you? what year were you born? where are your from? Etc. Individually, none really matter (except for their potential use asa security question). But the way big data works, all these little tidbits can easily and automatically be compiled into a detailed dossier

‘90 Ford Probe GT.
10 year old car, had about 78k it but was owned by an retired man living up the street. So it was pretty clean. He sold me a second one for $1 that didn’t run so I could use it for parts. Being a Ford that came in handy.
When I got it, my mom asked me how big the engine was.
“Oh mom, it’s only a 4 cylinder.” 😏

I wish I still had that car. It was wonderful.
Smangler@reddit
1977 Chevy Nova in 1993. I didn't know what I had. It was a rust bucket though and ran on a hope and a prayer. Featured a bench seat that only went so far forward, so I had to sit on a Yellow Pages to reach the pedals.
My 2nd car (a year or so later) was an '85 Plymouth Reeliant that ran on propane. 0 to 60 in 5 minutes. Had that car for about 3 years. Didn't get another car till I was in my mid-30's, probably because I was so traumatized by the first two lol!
Adrasteia-One@reddit
I would have absolutely loved an '86 Camaro. That was one of my favorite cars as a kid.
Rabbitrules87@reddit
One year after off of yours, 87 Camaro. Awesome first car!
And I did get a 94 later. Have the 95 now.

1986 Buick Regal. I loved that car. So soft and plush inside.

1991 Chevy Lumina Eurosport. The transmission was pretty much shot on it and the car would get stuck all the time in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. But it cost me 200 bucks.

1977 Chevy Chevette. It was older than me, bright yellow. Only had an AM radio. The horn blared every time we made a left hand turn, and it backfired. You also could never take your foot off the gas, even at a stoplight. My sisters and I shared it. We took turns buying batteries for the boombox we brought with us to play CDs and tapes. Even drove it in the snow.

1985 ford escort. I called it “Pablo”. It was awesome.

1989 Dodge Shadow.
2.5 inline four with a five-speed manual.
no_clever_name_yet@reddit
1990 Dodge Shadow in 1998. Rusted out. Both bumpers were bolted on.
I loved that POS. It was free from my grandparents in NYC and my mom and sister flew out and drove it home to MN. If I ever complained about it, my mom would say “that’s MY CAR from MY PARENTS and I’m LETTING you use it!” I paid for every single repair it ever needed (and boy did it need a lot over the next four years of its life).
TheConsoleGeek@reddit
I loved my Shadow so much my next car was a 1993 Plymouth Duster, I moved up in the world.

92 Shadow here. Not my first car but the first one I paid for.

1973 Chevy C30 Cheyenne. Camper Special package, with every option you could get in 73. Had a 454 and a 4 speed manual transmission with a Gear Vendors overdrive so you weren't stuck at 62 all the time. Still got terrible mileage if you drove it like a jackass (which I often did).
My grandad found it in an issue of Hemmings, and helped me buy it. We took Amtrak from Des Moines to Fort Worth and drove the truck home, running two lanes most of the way, stopping at old road side diners and checking out little towns all the way home. Most fun road trip of my life.

1991 Buick Skylark. Also from my mom.

1975 hurst olds but my family was into classic cars.
Accadius@reddit
1985 buick skyhawk. It was a rust bucket but it ran. Classmates never heard of the skyhawk so they thought I meant skylark. I had an 87 camaro after that but it was covered in bondo and the transmission leaked fluid and I couldnt afford to fix it so I sold it and bought a ford escort.
