Wife picked Destin to visit over the holiday weekend. I didn't know I'd get to check off the bucket list!

Had no idea really where we were going. Found out we were 20 minutes from the Air Force museum and had to visit!

Go check out the Commando Air park on Highway 98 in front of Hurlburt field if you can

Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola is a short drive and worth the trip. Get lunch at Hub Stacey’s.

Or McGuire's!

They have a location in Destin so even better for OP

Coming here to say the same thing. The naval aviation museum is awesome.

That SR-71 is actually #61-7959 or “big tail”. It’s one of a kind.
Limit_Cycle8765@reddit
The SR-71 at the Armament Museum is a one of a kind "Big Tail" SR-71. It is the only one in existence.

The museum was supposed to open an extension in the huts to the left of the main building, but it seems Eglin's visitor center took over the space instead.
The Mig-21 that is there was on of the Migs in the classified unit that flew them in Nevada. There are many interesting aircraft and weapons here, and the weapons on display are not shown in any other museum as far as I know, making the Eglin museum unique.

Is your wife perhaps single?

You’re happy to see a bunch of model planes?
AJ_Mexico@reddit
You were at the Air Force Armament Museum, I'd guess. https://afarmamentmuseum.com/

Yep! Had to go when I found out it was 20 minutes from where I was staying.

My oldest and I went for spring break in march as we loved it!
I’d never been up close to a C-130 gunship before. That was really cool
Hobear@reddit (OP)
At a girls in aviation event last year we got to tour a C-130 inside too, that was so fun. Such a large plane and to know they get bigger is wild.

Make it to Pensacola Naval Air Station if you can next time you’re in the area. I think it’s a couple hour drive from Destin, but it is insane.

Haven't gotten to see a B-52 yet... very nice!

Come to Orlando. There’s one next to a parking lot. And Valiant Air Command in Titusville has a cockpit you can visit. Then watch the near daily Falcon launch.
Hobear@reddit (OP)
First time up close but got to see them flying over Spokane a few years back. So fun to watch fly

Sorry you need to look a little north: https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/

National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida ... from now, on my bucket list too!
Gadshill@reddit
National Naval Aviation Museum is in Pensacola, Florida only about an hour from Destin.
