Holiday season makes me miss ads like these.

Did anyone else get irritated with how many errors were made in these?
WorldwidePies@reddit
The power button is off.
The cartridge is on the desk instead of in the nes.
Both kids are seemingly playing a one-at-a-time two player game at the same time. None of them are pressing the buttons that correspond to the action on the screen.
What is the mother even looking at ?

Not trying to correct you but it could be blue shirt playing. They're both pushing A and you can't see his d-pad. I only mention that because that's how we know yellow shirt is the little brother and he thinks he's playing, so he's slow. What else can this photo teach us about this family? I think the final stage is using everything we've learned to figure out wtf she's looking at.
WorldwidePies@reddit
I was thinking blue shirt’s thumb was hovering over the buttons, but looking at it closer, it could be pushing A. Good catch.
Initial_Energy5249@reddit
It’s when you play 1 player mode and hand your little brother the second controller so they think they’re playing and leave you alone.
AppropriateTouching@reddit
The NES isn't plugged into to anything.
emotyofform2020@reddit
Mario’s about to die
SirStocksAlott@reddit
The mom is watching hallucinations brought on by her Dexatrim.
Unending-Flexionator@reddit
I wish I had some dexamphetamine right now.

Mario is jumping to his death.

Kid in yellow can hardly see the screen anyway

When I was little I thought I grow up and dress in rugby shirts and preppy sweaters. Probably because of ads like this. God I miss the NES.
PoopyMcpants@reddit (OP)
Yeah those were the "rich kids" style of clothing.
My poor ass got stuck with faded thrift store tank tops and raggedy old 70s hand me downs.
unicorn-beard@reddit
I wore sweatpants and a garfield t-shirt for like 2 years straight
PoopyMcpants@reddit (OP)
I hear ya man.
OskeyBug@reddit
That mom is dying inside.
unicorn-beard@reddit
My parents almost got a divorce over the original Zelda game on NES. My Dad got so wrapped in that game he basically ignored my Mom for an entire month+. Luckily they got over it, and when Tetris came out they'd battle each other on his lunch break.
muhredditone@reddit
This makes me want Family Playing NES Simulator VR.
IggyDrake64@reddit
Ah! I remember this, and how weird/fake I thought it was as a kid.
Love my NES....
Plastic_Tourist9820@reddit
I remember seeing this
EntraptaIvy@reddit
Do you think the kid of the left is in security or engineering?
PoopyMcpants@reddit (OP)
The console isnt turned on.
Mario/duck hunt cart is outside of the console.
There are no cords visible to hook up the NES.
Mom isn't even looking at the screen.
The TV isnt turned on.
Overall-Rush-8853@reddit
Why are they both just standing at a table so close to the screen?
SuperCool101@reddit
Advertising moms during this era didn't get to have any actual fun. They had to look like they were supportive or enthusiastic about the rest of the family using whatever product was being advertised.
IanCrapReport@reddit
Boy I hope someone really got fired for that blunder.
jelloslug@reddit
And they are all way too excited about Mario about to jump to his doom.
PoopyMcpants@reddit (OP)
Also if you look closely at the cart it doesn't look right.
The cart on the table is in bold white text where the real cart isn't.
jambr380@reddit
This always pissed me off. Both kids look engaged with the controllers, but the game only allows one player to play at a time. Whoever is Luigi is a liar just vying for their parents love
twirlerina024@reddit
My SIL would give her toddler a broken controller to use while she got to play Animal Crossing in relative peace for 30 minutes. It was a win/win; the kid got to mash buttons and take credit for everything SIL accomplished in the game, and SIL got a break from tantrums.
Unending-Flexionator@reddit
no. mentally stupid, and doesn't know they're not playing! a classic trick
Adrasteia-One@reddit
So true! This made me laugh.
osddelerious@reddit
It’s def the dumb younger sibling who is bot getting to play :)
SirStocksAlott@reddit
thenzero@reddit
You never pressed the buttons while it was the other person’s turn??
Don_Shetland@reddit
The game isn't even in the console lol
driventhin@reddit
Blowing into the game cartridge, really thinking that was fixing anything, not knowing spitting into it only causes more issues… the good ol’ days! 🤣🥰
Unending-Flexionator@reddit
My parents were drinking while my sister was in another room and I played alone
jdallen1222@reddit
What’s the source of the neon light? Are they playing at a motel?
Putrid_Front865@reddit
I can still taste the Nintendo Cereal System as I look at this.
AquafreshBandit@reddit
Five seconds later the kid in the yellow shirt lightly tapped the console and the entire game froze.
OurHouse20@reddit
Used to see advertisements like this all the time in Nintendo Power magazine. My brother and I were subscribed to that magazine for ages!
throwawaytoday9q@reddit
I never knew any parents in the 80s or 90s that spent time playing games with their kids like this. I was lucky if my mom even played a board game with me. I had one friend whose mom played Nintendo and that blew my mind because I never knew any other adults that did that.
_WeSellBlankets_@reddit
I had built a retropie emulator on a Raspberry Pi 4. The loading screen takes a little while and is just a stream of text. But you can replace that with videos. So I downloaded old retro video game commercials to play while that's loading.
"You can't do this on Nintendo. Genesis does!"
TransportationOk657@reddit
This brings back memories of my friend down the street getting a NES around the summer of '87. Before that I had never played any video games outside of the Apple II at school. I was blown away and begged my parents for one! I ended up getting it for Xmas that year. It came with Duck Hunt and Gyromite (with the robot), and I also got Zelda. Good memories!
MrsSpookyMulder47@reddit
We bought a Nintendo Switch this week and my husband and I have been playing the old Gameboy, NES, SNES, and N64 games and it's been SO fun. Playing Mario Kart 64 with my 11 year old is peak life. Also, watching her try and miserably fail at Tetris is giving me some insight into her generation.
jtho78@reddit
like how the boy in front is not the father’s kid?
stm602@reddit
Genesis does what Nintendon't!
ArcXain@reddit
I used to think they meant you get a box of the game for free on some show you could draw pictures for. “Gat a free cartridge if we pick your drawing” type game
Found a mega man drawing when we moved years later. Found out none got sent in actually.
Who needs just the box of a game anyways lol
PoopyMcpants@reddit (OP)
Thats hilarious and heartbreaking.
I would always call those 1800 numbers on nickelodeon to win a free console by entering a drawing.
I was a delusional child and always thought I would win just by virtue of entering. (I never did)
jar36@reddit
AI does about as good of a job as this
BritOnTheRocks@reddit
Like the fact both kids are holding the controllers for single player Mario? Or is it more the unrealistic idea that parents would take the time to gather around a desk in a nondescript room to watch their kids play video games?
modulus801@reddit
I used to tell my sister she was playing as the goombas. She'd hold the controller and push buttons while I played.
The more unrealistic part is their level of engagement 3 seconds into the game.
PoopyMcpants@reddit (OP)
Thats how we found out that you can control the ducks
Debtastical@reddit
Right? We used to be a proper country.
