For newer pilots in the 121 world, just remember- sometimes the landing data says you ‘could’ land, but experience dictates whether or not you ‘should’ land. If the WX is sketchy, have an honest discussion about the possibility of diverting between the crew members and even dispatch. Pitch PIC and SIC need to be 100% confident that the landing will work out. Personally I’ve been in a few events where the landing data failed to match reality and that taught me a lot.

In this case the plane slid off at the very end of the runway/right at the taxiway turn off, so pretty sure (but not confirmed) it happened during taxi given its position as opposed to during rollout. The passengers who posted on social media didn’t seem too traumatized, so more likely it hit a slick spot at the right moment with its tail acting more like a sail during the right turn off from runway 31 onto taxiway Delta 6.

Winds were 310 at 22 gusting 36.

At least for the plane I fly, it even says crosswind limits are based on sustained winds. There is no published limit that includes gust.
I’m about to upgrade and I’m trying to think about what I actually feel comfortable with. I am not going to land on a runway reporting 3/3/3 where the sustained wind is at limits and the gust takes me well out of limits. I feel like that’s a classic case of 91.13 where you’ll still get in trouble even though it was legal.

I’ve always found the landing to data to be on the conservative side. The bigger problem in my experience is the accuracy of the breaking action and runway conditions and would vary wildly at the outstation airports. So if you’re fed bad data for the landing calculations, it’s going to be out. Crap in, crap out as they say.

Bingo. Almost certainly a crap in crap out situation here. These smaller outstations don’t reliably update their RCCs in changing conditions. Unnecessary condescending preachy sermon from gods gift to aviation the 9,000 767 LCP. Username checks I suppose.

Seems like every year a rj slides off the runway
