Whats a European social rule that would absolutely not work in the US?

It seems that in Europe, the socially normed response to a pickpocket is to just let them rob you.
That often doesn't go well when they try to rob Americans.

Yeah, Americans tend to get very hostile, as in physically aggressive, with pickpockets.
I've heard of incidents with Americans who get very hostile with pickpockets. . .apparently Europeans are just used to letting them get away with it. Americans see that as something to respond with force to.
