I was told my new haircut was nice and have had it done that way everytime for the last 5 years

A random man that I've never spoken to before, in a shop said to me "you look fresh, not sharp but fresh" as if I was a 7/10 good effort or something and then just walked off.
dannywalk@reddit
Twice. First time was in 1997. Someone told me I have nice shoulders. Last time was about 2013 in Mexico. A lady who thought I didn’t understand any Spanish said I was muy guapo. (That means handsome). She knew I understood when I blushed ☺️
dcute69@reddit
Almost_Sentient@reddit
I'd like to compliment you on your superb sense of humour and choice of gif, dcute69.
LingonberryPossible6@reddit (OP)
If its been that long, you're taking care of yourself. Keep it up
PomPomBumblebee@reddit
I got the courage to buy my own choice in uniform colours this year ( I wear scrubs and years before we were only allowed assigned colours, then when we got to chose I wasn't allowed the colour I wanted and stayed in what I always had). I was finally able to get a colour I wanted (teal) and I have had so many compliments. I've also finally managed to lose some weight which my colleagues have been very supportive of but even some repeat customers have been nice about it.
I work with a certain colleague most days and despite him being a grumpy git some days, some other days he really makes me feel I'm doing a good job so this year has been pretty good for me in many ways.
Almost_Sentient@reddit
Four years ago a woman completed me on my colourful scarf. I now look forward to Winter so I can wear it again.
MisterD90x@reddit
probably last year when my at the time girlfriend said i was handsome <3
salvoza@reddit

Friday just gone..... commented on how slender I'm looking
(Just a little over a year of going to the gym to sort out my back, lost a little over 5 stone!)

newtonbase@reddit
Impressive. Take this as another compliment.
BaldyBaldyBouncer@reddit
Great work bro
Lad_From_Lancs@reddit
Ta! Hard work, but paying 100% paying off!
ginbandit@reddit
Well done! You should be very proud of your commitment to being healthier!
Automatic-Scale-7572@reddit
It wasn't a genuine compliment, but it cracked me up all the same!
Yesterday, I was in the local Tesco Express, deciding on what type of chicken was going to be flung in an air fryer, when a group of 12 year old boys approached me. Just as I was channelling my inner Mark Corrigan, one of them said, 'excuse me, but my friend here thinks you are really beautiful'.
As a former 12 year old boy who loved making adults uncomfortable in public, I can only admire his game! Perfect delivery and execution, his mate looked absolutely devastated, and I was bamboozled. The two women next to me just broke down laughing. Come to think of it, I hope it is not on TikTok!
Queasy-Ice-2575@reddit
Never.
nikobenjamin@reddit
Compliment?.. What's that again?
denbolula@reddit
My Mrs was surprised I spend £30 a month feeding birds in our garden.

Still best friends with my ex. She's still the compliments provider.
Gulbasaur@reddit
I've got a few compliments about how I dress recently. One of them was from a stranger waiting to cross the road in a city I'd never been to before, which was really nice. He took of his headphones, told me he really liked what I was wearing then put them back in.
That felt pretty good.
Bertie1983@reddit
What were you wearing??
Gulbasaur@reddit
Some nice striped jeans (that were new) and a kind of psychedelic cardigan that I get a lot of comments about.
I sort of made the decision to just wear whatever I want whenever I want (provided it doesn't look ridiculous) in my thirties and this approach has actually got me a good amount of (I think) genuine compliments.

04housemat@reddit
Just FYI, you don’t need to fly to Iceland to buy frozen pizza; any super market here will have them.
Competitive_Golf8206@reddit
Yeah but going abroad is my sole source of compliments so it's worth the expense
IndependentGolf5421@reddit
This is a UK only sub mate. You can go back to your own shithole country far as any of us over here are concerned.

I got told I was "so authentic" during the summer.
aezy01@reddit
Unsolicited compliment about how I look, probably once in my entire life. Not sure I believed her. I’m just an average guy.
entius84@reddit
Last month I received an indirect compliment. To identify between the only two males working there, one of my colleagues asked a client if he talked with the bald one or the handsome one. It made my week. Not long after another one told me I'm really good in a new role I've been covering for a few weeks, but did not hit as hard since I've been having problems and had to work on my self image for a while.
jonathanquirk@reddit
I get praise for my work from my bosses, but I don’t know if it’s genuine or if it’s just the company trying desperately to stop haemorrhaging staff due to rock-bottom moral. My mother praises me, but she’s naturally biased.
The only time I think I got a completely genuine non-biased compliment was from a train conductor who said that he liked my polarised sunglasses. I had to stop myself from automatically saying “Sorry” and finally blurted out “Thank you” about 30 seconds later. That was in the summer of 2009, I think.
WillWorkforWhisky@reddit
At the pub last Thurs, when a woman walking through stopped and shouted, "Fuck me! You're gorgeous!" I blushed. She said it every time she was going out for a cigarette, and it became fun banter between us.
Anyway, I casually mentioned it to the barmaid who I actually liked, and she told me that the woman was "Going through a lot right now."
Oh well. Sunrise, sunset.

Couple days ago. Honestly just start saying nice things to your friends, even if it's awkward to start with positivity spreads :)
Only-Support-3760@reddit
As a straight male I compliment my male colleagues all the time, dunno if it counts as much but we should compliment people more. On a side note I literally still remember 8 years ago a woman in Waterstones complimented my shirt and can still recall it verbatim.
coolhandlukeuk@reddit
And what did she say?
ArthurCrabapple@reddit
Yeah man always compliment my Office bro's as the women don't, you look fire babe! damn right sister! nice bants. Apart from that, probably 5 years ago and another man said he liked my coat. In the compliment desert you take anything that rolls by.
hideyourarms@reddit
Same here, it's not like I lose anything by giving someone a compliment. Friends mostly, strangers occasionally.
cowie71@reddit
Do you still wear the shirt ?!
Only-Support-3760@reddit
Still got it! Still use it in summer
-You_Cant_Stop_Me-@reddit

A colleague told me my hair looked “really nice” at an event the other day, which was nice. Though she also said “have you had something different done?” Which sort of implies it looked shit before 😂
I’ll take it though.
DaveBacon@reddit
I’m an electrician and did some work for a friend of my sister in law. She’s so happy with my work she told my sister in law she’d give me a kidney if I ever needed it. I wasn’t sure how to react to that!
nitin42@reddit
Last month in a coffee shop when I was getting a flat white. A girl (around my age) complimented my outfit and it really made me happy. It was so random!
D0wnb0at@reddit
Men don’t get compliments. It’s fucked up.
D0wnb0at@reddit
I was called cute when I was 15. That was 30 years ago. I still remember it well.
A woman said I looked like I used a gym often around 2019 when I have never been to a gym. That was nice.
Leglesslonglegs@reddit
random sober people around my age out in public? v. rare. friends/drunk people/the odd old lady, i mean weekly?
i guess depends on what quality of compliment we are thinking about like "pretty" "well dressed" "look smart" "clean" like idk had it all, the last person was an academic said once i looked clean when i was visiting him to talk about an essay lol. fair enough i guess. (also been called ugly by randoms, friends etc too lol)
Original_Bad_3416@reddit
Someone said they liked my hat today
newtonbase@reddit
A lad who was at least 30 years younger than me complimented me on my dips at the gym. Felt pretty good.
mo_tag@reddit
I get skill based compliments quite often, at work but usually on my cooking.. appearance based compliments almost never. I've occasionally got complimented on an item of clothing but it's always been something my ex bought me and never something I'd buy for myself lol
Sensitive-Vast-4979@reddit
From anyone other my parents and from someone not taking the piss or taking pitty because of something i said . Then idk since I dont remember anyone every saying one
ChilliChowder@reddit
What a perfectly cromulent question x
PooCube@reddit
What is ‘cromulent’ a reference to? I’ve been using that word casually for years ever since I saw/read whatever that word comes from but it’s been so long I can’t remember haha!
ChilliChowder@reddit
Hahaha Simpsons nonsense mad up word
Mc_and_SP@reddit

About 10 years ago a pretty girl at a festival told me I had nice shaped eyebrows
ThePsychicBunny@reddit
I got called a beautiful man.
I really hope it was genuine. It was such a nice comment.
Jammin4B@reddit
It was genuine. Take it from me, a woman who calls her partner a beautiful man all the time cos handsome just ain’t enough when I want him to know both how gorgeous he is to look at, and also how much I love his kind soul too.
Beautiful > Handsome.
kevinmorice@reddit

About a year and a half ago, some lady in a toby carvery after a long day at work on the road, said my hair looked nice. The next day I realized she was very pretty, and I said absolutely nothing in return. Felt like shit about it for weeks afterwards. But was just so overwhelmed and blindsided by the compliment that I couldn't really think about anything.
OldSaul@reddit
I got called handsome by another fella only last night. Given, the lad was smashed at a Christmas party and it was to my wife he said this too I'm still taking it.
BalthazarOfTheOrions@reddit
Earlier in the year I was talking about how hot the offices were and how men and women feel temperatures differently. The older female colleague next to me, in her typical Aussie directness, said off handedly that of course I don't feel the cold because look at me. Presumably a reference to me being muscular, but either way it was meant as a compliment.

Afraid-Priority-9700@reddit
Yeah, as a Christian now, that's very complimentary!

I was described as "very disorganised" which I will take as a compliment if it kills me.
ClevelandWomble@reddit
Took me a while to remember. It was the summer of 1996. I noticed that an important document I was studying had a fatal flw with huge implications. My boss said, "Well noticed." That was it.
I'm retired with a family.

My wife regularly compliments me. My daughter (4) said I have handsome hair tonight. (She's just learned the word and has used it numerous times correctly today so I'm going to ride on that high until she says something different
But if that doesn't count I was also complimented on a new jacket by a male colleague last week.
Secatus@reddit
I currently have a moustache foe movember that I've also coloured rainbow. I'm also working at a big pokemon event this weekend.
I've had literally hundreds of people tell me they like my moustache, and it feels great. My wife is telling me it 100% needs to be gone first thing Monday morning though

A woman at a coffee shop complimented my trousers recently. Which I believe was genuine, as they're the coolest pants I own.
CranberryPuffCake@reddit
Two ladies in Tesco complimented my hair yesterday 😏🤭

macomateo@reddit
This random girl complimented my tshirt in the shop once, 5 years ago. I still think about it
docju@reddit
A guy three weeks ago was shocked when I told him how old I was and said "I looked amazing". Best compliment I've had in years.
intangible-tangerine@reddit
Lady on the street told me I had beautiful hair the other day which was nice because I'd recently cut it with the same scissors I use to slice pizza.
CheeezBlue@reddit

It’s been a little while. I still recall a stranger on the tube, going towards the escalators stopping to tell me how nice my shoes were. Burnished leather Crockett & Jones. Still remember it clear clear as day. I make an effort to notice things people wear because it made such an impression on me.
GayAttire@reddit
Someone said she didn't know why I wasn't invited to something. does that count?
OccidentalTouriste@reddit
Nothing direct but I've decided all the compliments my dog gets are vicarious compliments for me.
doegrey@reddit
Take it as a compliment! If I note a gorgeous dogs and comment on it, part of it is cause it’s a gorgeous breed, the rest of it is cause it’s well looked after, happy and well behaved.
You can’t take credit for the genetics, but most of the rest is down to you!
ffs_not_this_again@reddit
Also no one goes up to a horribly behaved dog and compliments it while it snaps at them. If they're complimenting the dog they're also complimenting that the dog is decently well trained and seems happy and comfortable with the owner. Being loved and trusted by a dog is a great compliment.
EricGeorge02@reddit
Same here. A few days ago a very nice Irish lady said my greyhound was a beautiful dog 😊
ultraboomkin@reddit

KittyKes@reddit
She was coming on to you my man
strawbebbymilkshake@reddit
Shit like this is exactly why women are reluctant to compliment men btw. I’ve been followed, harassed and propositioned for complimenting strangers and it was always men.
Stop perpetuating this. All you’re doing is making it less likely that other men will get innocuous little compliments that could have given them a boost.
dibblah@reddit
no, she was complimenting his hair. Let it be just a compliment. You can't complain that women don't compliment men and then interpret every compliment as flirting - that's what puts us off saying anything.
Cakeo@reddit
If that was the case men would still receive more compliments than they do.
Irrxlevance@reddit
Strange men are intimidating to most women. Of course women don’t just dish out compliments to them as often as they do other women.
And yes the person above is right. If its interpreted as flirting, which most men will do, and the man chooses to approach the woman for a number etc, and not back down, that can get her into some serious trouble with the wrong man. Lets not be naive
Important_Ruin@reddit
Can't actually remember.
My GF compliments on my bum regular seems i have the dump truck/bunda/nice ass. Whatever this kids are calling it now.

From my wife and daughters I get a lot. I even get a reasonable number at work.
The one that genuinely sticks with me was a couple of years ago when two of my cousins were over to visit (who I love and respect a lot) said "You were born to be a girl dad." Still makes me smile.
Djinjja-Ninja@reddit
Thursday.
A friend complimented me on my shirt and jacket combo.
Grey Woolen shirt, herring bone tweed jacket. I was looking pretty sharp, along with nice jeans, decent trainers.
Unless you also count my partner calling me "hot stuff" earlier. Then about 3 hours ago.
Commercial_Nature_28@reddit
Got called hench the other day my a colleague. That was nice.
dazedan_confused@reddit
I tend to make sure I compliment people all the time, because I really only get complimented for work I do for other people, rather than, well, who I am.
naynaeve@reddit
There were occasions where I wanted to compliment men at work and university. Especially when they dressed nicely. But I didn’t for the fear that they may find it weird.
ancapailldorcha@reddit
My boss said I was very good on Friday. Unfortunately, I think this was intended to butter me up as she then informed me that she volunteered me to speak at a conference. On Thursday, I told her that I was worried about my heart.
So there's that...
querythoughtss@reddit
I usually get compliments on my outfits so I don’t think that’s a direct compliment to me
maybenomaybe@reddit
Why not? Unless someone else is picking out your clothes each day, it means you have style and taste, and that's about you.
querythoughtss@reddit
True I think I’ve never really had anyone compliment directly always about my clothes so never thought of it being directly for me
PooCube@reddit
If someone compliments your outfit you’d be safe in assuming that part of that means that it looks good on you, not just the clothes themselves ☺️
querythoughtss@reddit
Didn’t think of it like that! Guess whose head isn’t fitting through the door now! Haha thank you!
SnooDoughnuts3239@reddit
Why not?
I think a compliment on your skills or choices is much more impactful than a compliment on a part of you which you cannot control.
Pooter1313@reddit
Expecting a baby soon and loads of my mates have said I’ll be a great dad. Really nice.

As a woman sexual assault
As a man incredible compliment but also sexual assault
ComfortableFew9182@reddit
Well the only one I've had, in recent memory, was from a random woman today who said

LingonberryPossible6@reddit (OP)
It's mean you're not too vain. Good on you
Chuck_The_Lad@reddit
Can't remember
Firm-Wear2736@reddit
I recieve them a lot because of my appearance (I'm a skinhead/bald heavily tattooed, pierced and have stretched ears) so it's very much they will judge a book by its cover when it comes to my appearance and will be perceived negatively upon first glance. not that I mind comes with the territory.
But because I'm so well spoken and very honest most take a u turn and its usually the compliment that I am well spoken and well educated. (personally I think them saying im well educated is pretty generous 🤣) That being said I am very self loathing so most compliments don't get through to me.
I do believe that we should be nicer to each other though. I pay people compliments all the time. People have so much shit going on regardless of whatever background they are and a lot of the people these days would rather tear you down than lift you up so I feel it does pay to be kind. Just my opinion though make of it what you will.

Probably the best compliment I ever got lol.
snozberryface@reddit
i got complimented by a friend at being a great programmer a few days ago
ClarifyingMe@reddit
I stopped complimenting men because whenever I did they had to make it weird and start overly mentioning their wife or partner. Like a normal compliment, now they think I want to jump into their pants. Stop it. Only happened to me with one woman and I told her to dream on.
HighWaterSheriff@reddit
My mate’s wife told me I looked great in a tweed jacket I bought last weekend. Irish tweed from Donegal, very smart and not stuffy, good price in a closing down sale. Was quite chuffed.
I was kinda hoping for a compliment on the £1.4million I saved on a construction contract through quite amicable negotiation yet the senior project manager on my side still somehow finds ways to sneakily challenge my advice or question my knowledge. Welcome to the world of quantity surveying, at least it pays well.
Jcw28@reddit
I probably get complimented more than I realise, but in terms of compliments that actually mean something to me I don't know - a long time ago.

A what now?

My dealer said he liked my jacket the other day 🥹

People compliment my name a lot, or my shoes. I wear bright colours a lot. Not the most handsome chap but glad of the compliments on my style.

Yesterday I told my best mate I loved him as I hugged him good bye, and he said it back to me.
Go and tell your best mate you love him. Here try this "oi prick, I love you"

25 years ago on a night out in a Yorkshire town, a random woman kept staring at me (male) in the pub. Eventually she came over and asked me if I was gay!
I replied that I wasn't and asked why she had thought that. "Because you're wearing a nice shirt and are alright looking". I think that was meant as a compliment.
Gooseuk360@reddit
Yesterday, amazing 5 iron shot.

I play drums in a band. That cheeky little smile the other members throw me when I nail a tricky fill absolutely keeps me going.
holdawayt@reddit
I've lost around 3 and a half stone recently so I'm getting lots of weight related compliments. Nothing deeper than that though.
Zepayne@reddit
Today actually, my son mentioned he can see that the gym is working wonders for me.

Guy at the gym said “Jesus mate, put that bloody big thing away” as I bumped into him naked in the gym changing rooms. Best compliment I’ve had in ages.
switchypapi@reddit
My girlfriend said ‘such a handsome boy’ to me like an hour ago. Still glowing from it 😆
localmansayshello@reddit
Just commenting OP because my Dad tells me to grow my buzzcut back out alll the time (I used to have quite thick hair), I buzzed it to go backpacking and I got too many compliments while I was there to change it now.
Made me think how it's honestly mad that men in this country don't compliment each other. I resolved to do it more, and haven't so far.
iffyClyro@reddit
My wife often tells me she’s proud of me which is a compliment.
Calls me handsome all the time as well.
Other than that, I was referred to as “the young good looking guy” by someone once. Although none of my colleagues thought they were talking about me.
AllRedLine@reddit
Yesterday. Had a video with a woman I work with (not the same organisation, we just collaborate on some stuff from time to time) and as soon as she joined the call, she told me my beard looked nice. Probably the first compliment I've had in a couple of years.
getfisher@reddit
It's been years

My wife said I looked very smart this morning because it was the first time in weeks I've worn something other than a hoodie and tracksuit bottoms. I think she may have been taking the piss though.
SeaElephant8890@reddit
Newly single, I've been getting compliments most days.
Unfortunately even though I'm single I'm really not looking.
Suspect those compliments may dry up if that changes 😂

Having put on too many pounds in the last few years, I was very pleased to be complimented on my new hat last night.
It also reminded me that I need to lose weight so I can get the “you’re looking well” not “nice hat” compliments 😭
adriantoine@reddit
Last week from a coworker who complimented my coat
subbiedavie@reddit
I was told I was extremely useful this week, which is one of the best compliments I can hear.

Last night at our work Christmas party (in November!?) a woman from I want to say the finance team told me that I looked very sharp.
I have never spoken to her before and don’t even know her name. I very much doubt that she knows mine.
It was nice to receive an unprompted compliment from someone I don’t really know.
fridgezebra@reddit
i can go years and years without but I got called dapper looking the other week
