I’m going to guess that it’s not just the gun. I suspect that the issue the person had was that he was shooting in the United States, a place where folks around the world look at our gun violence problems, and believe anyone shooting guns in the United States may also be learning how to abuse firearms.
England has a great hunting culture, plus some of the best marksman and recreational shooters have come out of that country. Those folks aren’t getting arrested for others feelings. At the same time, I doubt that the original complaint actually articulated how the US is perceived as a country that is entirely lax about who actually gets a firearm, and that the presumed gun nuttery is apparently as catchy as the common cold.
Definitely not the gun I had plenty of photos of me holding rifles and firing through drills all taken in the uk and posted on my socials.
Another poster has mentioned that’s it’s a tack on charge to do with a stalking/ harassment against him.
This is actually even worse than it sounds. From the article
However, he said that a police officer later visited his home to warn him that concerns had been raised about the post.
“I was told to be careful what I say online and I need to understand how it makes people feel,” he said.
Mr Richelieu-Booth said he offered to provide officers with proof that the picture of the firearm had been taken while he was in the US but the officers said that was not necessary.
Mr Richelieu-Booth said two officers then returned to his home shortly after 10pm on Aug 24 and arrested him.
So they came, talked to him about it, the story was explained and they still came out to arrest him days later? Ridiculous. Not to mention someone out there had to snitch on him and send the police to his house because they felt threatened
An American and a Russian are talking about their countries. The American starts to brag; "In my country, I can walk into the Oval Office, slam my fist on the president's desk, and say 'Mr. President, I don't like the way you're running this country!'"
The russian appears unimpressed and says "We can do that in my country." The American says "Really?" "Mhm." says the Russian. "I can walk right into the Kremlin, slam my fist on Gorbachev's desk and say 'I don't like the way President Reagan is running his country.'"
The story is already rediculous but if the picture tied to this post is the actual picture he got reported on, it makes it even worse. Dude awkwardly holding a shotgun in another country shouldn't hurt anyone's fee fees.
The US is now headed in the same direction unfortunately, public freedom of speech for everyone is no longer guaranteed, especially for the ones "that don't vote correctly".
They already have arrested people for silently praying outside of an abortion clinic. So basically if you're just standing around and talking to God in your head, they claim the right to arrest you. Truly dystopian.
Not saying it's right to arrest them but "praying" outside an abortion clinic is about making a statement at other people's expense, it has nothing to do with prayer because you can pray anywhere without passing judgement on people or drawing attention to yourself.
In front of a medical center often patronized by vulnerable people going through a mental health crisis is not the place to protest.
Have you ever watched Upload on Amazon? Same thing. Following consciousness upload into a virtual world, post death, the real world company was able to read minds and persecute those who thought against the system.
I don't know how it is in the UK, but in the US cops are NOT required to look at exculpatory evidence before they arrest you. Their job is to gather evidence that leads to an arrest and any evidence they look at that gives them probable cause is the only thing they are required to consider for the arrest.
In fact once they arrest you their job is over... there is no obligation to look at every possible scenario and find more evidence either of your guilt or innocence. Even if people tell them there is evidence of their innocence, US cops are not required to look at it and can just straight up ignore it. Shows like CSI where they look into every alibi and piece of evidnce is a complete farce. Their modus operendi is "Let the Judge sort it out."
You can see this in practice with the lady who came out of the restaurant and found her car windshield smashed in. She call the cops and the cops knew there was a recent hit and run so they assumed she was driving while intoxicated and made up the story to get out of trouble. They arrested her for DUI and hit and run etc etc. She told them to ask in side the restaurant and get teh security footage ass it would show she was parked here for 2+ hours and inside the restaurant so the hit and run couldn't possibly be her. Cops didn't care. Her own lawyer had to get the footage themselves to prove her innocence, the cops never bothered to look into the matter further after arresting her.
And when she sued, the judges didn't care and said essentially what I posted above: Cops are not required to gather ALL evidence possible nor any evidence that proves your innocence even if told about it's existence. Once they have probable cause to arrest, their job is over and done. So she lost her lawsuit.
Hurray for America!! There is no Justice in our Justice system>.<
Reddit hates a lot of shit for no, or stupid, reasons. Reddit also isn't real life most places....unfortunately the authoritarian nanny state of the UK seems to be one of the places reddit truly embodies.
A bail document seen by The Telegraph refers to an allegation of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and a further allegation of stalking related to a photograph of a house that appeared on his social media
Police received a complaint of stalking involving serious alarm or distress, relating partly to social media posts, several of which included pictures of a male posing with a variety of firearms which the complainant took to be a threat.
He appears to have already been under investigation for stalking and harassment. This social media post was interpreted as threatening within the context of an allegedly pre existing stalking/harassment campaign. He wasn’t arrested for this post alone, but rather a variety of actions related to his alleged stalking, including posting his victims house on social media.
Shotguns and firearms are perfectly legal in the UK. I own and shoot both. Many people post on social media - and indeed my own club posts pictures of people competing in local and national competitions.
The fact that our overstretched plod were drawn to this shows there was other factors in play
Despite all the “UK has fallen” nonsense here, nobody normal in the UK is getting a visit from the police for posting a picture holding a shotgun. Just doesn’t happen
100% with Australia right next to them. This is what happens when you give any ability to fight to the government. And yet they’ll preen and smugly say they’re proud of this because “at least our kids aren’t being shot in skewwwwl”
Sure, they’re being stabbed and run over instead. Congratu fkn lations
For those that aren't aware of how truly F'ed the uk is, this happens thousands of times a month. All the while their solve rate for real crimes is almost non-existent. They will come for you for liking a post they disagree with or for criticizing politicians. They will even call your work just to make your boss aware of your "actions". And don't get me started on the r*pe gangs.

Yup, 15 here.
All I worry about is that despite being a US citizen that I'll still run into issues if I go back and visit family. I have touched FB in years but what if there's a range or hunting pic on there that's gonna get me in trouble?
Scary nanny state shit.
You have to understand that someone else's fee-fees were hurt and that is a serious crime!
If your neighbor posts scurry pictures of life-threatening black assault rifles, that is a direct assault on your right to feel safe in your own browser. That's basically the same as being a mass-shooting victim and absolutely something worth calling the police about.
Technically, unless the dude had a green card or a hunting license, he committed a criminal offense by being in possession of a firearm in the US.
Specifically 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(5)(B) — often flagged when people say “non-immigrant aliens can’t have guns” — it is unlawful for “any alien who has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa” to “ship, transport, receive, or possess any firearm or ammunition.”
That said, I've seen some articles about Texas and their constitutional carry laws somehow being legal, but tbh, any tourist coming here and shooting is potentially setting themselves up for a heap load of trouble.
Apparently he was arrested for more than just posting a picture. If you go to the UK sub the talk about it. They're saying he posted this picture and then right after a picture of someone's house he already had issues with. This is just like when US cops tack on bullshit charges.
Other comments are saying that there are loads of pictures of Brits with guns when on vacation to the US. So there is definitely more to this story.
And other comments are saying the charges have already been dropped and that this might have something to do with a business dispute, so it could be the other person rabble rousing against him. You know like karens do all the time here in the US.
A lot of European fundamentally still see themselves as peasants who are subordinate to a king. This mentality was all over Sweden when I lived there too.
Since the UK cops will arrest anyone who hurts somebody’s feelings how the hell haven’t they turned that on their cops and politicians and just start flooding their hotlines or whatever with complaints that these authoritarian c*nts have hurt their feelings?
This is why people escape that bullshit country and come to the US. We did a couple centuries ago and shot them when they showed up to take our guns. 😂
I had a boss from the UK (in Denver) who tried to have me arrested when word got out that I took a shooting trip with a coworker one weekend. The cops came and arrested him
Apparently, they executed their monarch once and had none for 11 years but the people were so upset and hinky pinky without one that the parliament had to invite his exiled son to assume the role.
In the states it's internet, streaming and Air conditioning. Those three things have to be gone for people to act up. Not sure what the equivalent is in the UK.
We're talking about the UK. Anyone with a desire for freedom left ages ago, or set about a revolution to get out from under their thumb, and they've seemingly bred out any backbones in UK since.
That may be true about the majority, but thats always been true about the majority. They have people cutting down emissions cameras on the daily. A little too late? Maybe, but there's people there speaking out and resisting the "progress".
I think being judged by a jury of your peers is one of the best solutions society has come up with. Keep in mind though, juries are mostly populated by people who were too dumb to get out of jury duty.
I lucked out and spent a few days in London in 2014 not realizing it was the Centennial of the start of WWI. The National War Museum had some great exhibits of events, uniforms and trench warfare. And the 3rd or 4th floor was full of art, both propaganda and art inspired by trench survivors who witnessed the use of chemical warfare.
I don't know if I would ever return to the UK, but I'm glad I went.
As someone who enjoys history and culture there's a lot of places I'd love to visit one day that I'll probably never be able to. Like on the other end of the Spectrum there's places like Syria and the middle east. So much neat history there but it'd take a lot of change before I felt comfortable going as an American.
The UK actively has whatever the opposite of the freedom of speech is. Its kinda sad and funny to see Brits talk about politics or legal matters because they always have to tip toe around things so they don't get locked up by their tyrannical government. They need a revolution.
More specifically... EVERYONE has freedom of Speech, but the people in the UK have yet to fight for it so they can't exercise this Right as the gov't has outlawed their Rights.
It will never cease to amaze me that a country that at one time had an empire spanning the globe, built on the military conquest and subjugation of the local populations, is full of so many absolute pussies and is just so utterly cucked toward their government.
I will never understand how they let it get like this, but I do know that without a violent and bloody massive uprising of the people that completely tears down their current government, things will never get better for them. I feel sorry for people who live in the UK and love their country. It’s a lesson to everyone else: You don’t ever get back what you give up, and there will never be enough you can give up to placate them.

Officers cautioned him about online content and its potential impact on others' feelings”
Jesus Christ, all this from a social media picture?

Is it because he didn’t have eye protection?

The UK does not have freedom of speech. I don't know how many times it needs to be repeated.
Also anyone who works in IT should know that nothing on social media is private, and it's there forever. Yes, reddit is social media.

Plenty of places don't have a freedom of speech, but you still won't get locked up for stupid shit like this.
thereddaikon@reddit
The UK actively has whatever the opposite of the freedom of speech is. Its kinda sad and funny to see Brits talk about politics or legal matters because they always have to tip toe around things so they don't get locked up by their tyrannical government. They need a revolution.

The old "Oi, you got a LIOCENCE for that Opinion?" Joke was real.
Myte342@reddit
