Was a good day till I hit some pressure treated wood at 30+ mph
Jayrassic_Park@reddit
And that is precisely why I bought a motorcycle-derived ebike instead of a bicycle-derived ebike. There is way too much weight on an ebike for bicycle wheels, suspension, and brakes.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Mine is jus fine.....till I hit that shit lol
gnomaki@reddit
No torque arms for what looks like a 1500w motor? I hope you're not using regen breaking cause that could easily rotate the whole shaft tapping and bending the frame, rip the motor cable off, fry your ESC and cause your whole wheel to fall out. Get some thick ones because 2x4mm torque arms didn't manage to keep my motor from rotating a bit which is still a costly repair despite the damage not being that severe.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
A torque arm isn't relevant to anything here 🥱🙄😆
stormdelta@reddit
You're right it's not relevant to this crash, but you still need a torque arm especially if that's a normal aluminum frame.
The frame will be permanently damaged if you wait to find out the hard way.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I never use aluminum cuz they break lol
This is pure carbon steel
stormdelta@reddit
Not as familiar with carbon steel since that's an unusual material for bicycles (most steel frames I've seen are hi10 or chromoly), but that's a little less of a risk then.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I used aluminum once with a 2 stroke kit and it didn't end well. Lesson learned there lol
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I've never had an issue and this is so tight fitting that the shit couldn't move even if it wanted to. I do plan on getting some but I haven't been able to fit them in my budget as of yet.
SwiftUnban@reddit
That’s not how that works
Relative-Display-676@reddit
lucky you didn't hit it with your front wheel...
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I hit it with both lol
Nice skid mark too
Adventurous-Quote190@reddit
I'm glad you're ok, but why not just ride around it? That wood doesn't seem big enough to block the whole bike lane?
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I was trying to dodge a shitty driver n didn't see that thing in time. My very tight brakes definitely did the job on this episode.
ElectricalRespect506@reddit
In a protected bike lane?
stormdelta@reddit
I wish. Most bike lanes aren't protected here.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
In Oklahoma City 😂😂
It's not that protected haha
Wonderful_Finish_891@reddit
I live in Raleigh NC and people here think bike lanes are turn lanes and will drive in the bike lane approaching intersections
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Same here lol
Can't walk anywhere cuz they'll run it ass over
stupidinternetname@reddit
Probably was avoiding that gaping hole where the cover appears to be missing.
ComprehensiveSwitch@reddit
why the fuck are you going 30+mph on a motorcycle in the bike lane
stormdelta@reddit
Class 3 e-bikes are allowed to go 28mph in the US, and OP is in the US. 30mph is only 2mph over that, not a big difference.
And that bike is clearly not a motorcycle or moped in design, weight, or handling.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Cuz nobody else is there lol
This is Oklahoma City where even cars don't follow shit
This had nothing to do with me being in the bike lane
Once again it's as relevant as fucking torque arms 🥱🙄
ComprehensiveSwitch@reddit
As glad I am that you’re physically okay, you are not riding a bicycle and do not belong in a bike lane any more than a gas motorcycle or a car belong in the bike lane. It’s not okay.
gymtrovert1988@reddit
It's a bike, it belongs in a bike lane. Bikes can go 30 mph without pedal assist.
An e-motorcycle that goes 50 mph can use the road. A class 2 or 3 ebike would piss cars off.
ComprehensiveSwitch@reddit
It's an emoto with a 1200w motor that would be illegal in almost all bike lanes and paths. It's twice as powerful as the most powerful typical class 2 ebikes with no limiter. 30mph is absolutely not OP's max speed and you know that.
Groot_Calrissian@reddit
I'm all for effective legislation (which is currently lacking globally) around e-bikes, classes and speeds. However, there is context to every use, and really each operator should be in the location that suits their capability, operating speeds, and the traffic conditions at that time. There is a lot of overlap in 'appropriate use' that is not covered by current legislation anywhere. From the context photo OP included, it does not appear to be an unreasonable location or speed for that road.
I don't care what a bike's top speed is, or how much power it has available, any more than I care if you drive your Ferrari at 25mph past my house. I care that traffic is the least impeded as possible, all operators on the road are safe and courteous to each other, and everyone gets where they are going safely. Get in the lane appropriate to that, don't be a douche to other appropriate users, act in a safe and predictable manner, and be responsible for your actions.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Ok man lol
Cars here drive in the fucking bike lanes n drive over cones. Plz don't speak on what u don't know anything about.
Ohm_Slaw_@reddit
There is a lot more weight on the rear wheel. I also see a front shock, (I don't think there is a rear shock, hard to tell.) When the front wheel hits the front shock has a lot of travel, and the arms will serve as shock absorbers as well. The rear wheel has a lot less travel in it. When that rear wheel moves suddenly upward, there aren't a lot of components between the debris and OP's butt. Somethin's gotta give.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Both tubes exploded on impact but the tires seem legit still. I wanna eventually get full suspension but this frame is strong as hell it seems. I have a 35lb battery on the back as well. So yeah, lots of weight in the back.
paxtana@reddit
When you fix it you may want to add torque arms.. if it had ripped itself out of the dropouts you could end up in the hospital
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
That's very unlikely to happen. Nothing could spin free even if it wanted to as I can barely wiggle this thing out at times to change a tube. I'll eventually get one anyways but right now I'm like ugh lol
puterTDI@reddit
Hub motors have been known to tear the dropouts right off the bike. You’re wrong on this one.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I've been good for like 2 yrs so I'll get one when the budget allows. Kinda funny how I post a pic showing my accident but all ppl seem to wanna do it pick things apart that ain't even relevant to what happened. Having torque arms wouldn't of prevented shit in this case.
puterTDI@reddit
How much do you think these things cost? They’re less than $10…
TheoriginalFnF@reddit
The hell they are. You're talking about some ugly hose-clamped contraption.
Done right, just the Nordlock washers for both sides are $20 + shipping. Quality machined TA's - that actually work -, 6 years back ran me $65+, per side and six weeks wait from GB. I documented the entire procedure on EBR. Once 'spun' you must file the dropouts. In fact, I designed a steel clamp to hold that (shitty ground), hardened steel axle where it'll shear first, not destroy my frame - roughly $300 w/ machine shop work.
'$10"? Lol. I fucking wish.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Yeah the shitty ones lol
puterTDI@reddit
First: shitty are better than none.
Second: this is one of those things that doesn’t need to be top tier to work.
Third: they’re serious about ending up in the er if your dropouts fail. I don’t know what your bike is made of, but unless it’s steel then they will fail with no visible warning. Neither aluminum nor carbon fiber deform before they fail.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
A pipe clamp and some cheap crap metal won't hold much IMO
My bike is carbon steel with a 40lb battery on the back. If it did manage to rip shit out n spin, the weight on the back would give me a bit of reaction time to hit the brakes.
The torque arms that I saw are like $50 or so. I keep thinking I've caught a lil break but then life or holidays happen. So I gotta wait on that
puterTDI@reddit
Then you don’t have a strong understanding of physics or levers
Your life, your decision.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
If it'll rip out solid steel then what is that pipe clamp gonna do 🤣
puterTDI@reddit
You just reinforced my comment about not understanding physics or levers.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I'm not an idiot but I also don't claim to know everything either. But I'm not gonna sit here n bicker about torque arms when it's not even relevant to what happened here. It's kinda dumb
Difficultsleeper@reddit
You take twist the axle with a 10 mm wrench to make removing the wheel easier.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Oh I can pop that thing off n back on in my sleep lol
Mockbubbles2628@reddit
Torque arms will do jack shit to prevent your axel ripping out the frame when you hit a bump at 30mph
buttholecake@reddit
Peessure treated wood usually has divots in them, called hews. This is bathed in borate, or some other termite chemical
Old-Replacement8242@reddit
I've done this twice, once with my car, once with my bike. Both times the tire held the broken pieces of the aluminum wheel / rim together and saved me a crash.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Mine was my super tight brakes and reflexes I think
Old-Replacement8242@reddit
Those hub motor wheels can't be cheap, but neither is rebuilding it. Glad you're OK sorry about your bike.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I got a spare bit of that fails it's $200 for a cheap kit which is what that was. I've never hit anything like that ever. This is a first n I'm almost 45.
Old-Replacement8242@reddit
It happens, crap on the road, potholes. It's not like you're looking at the ground every second. Usually you avoid it until you look behind or away and it's right there.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I had a car beside me that was being dumb, I hit my brakes but it was kinda too late. It was either the car or that block of wood.
Ohm_Slaw_@reddit
Glad you're OK. It's always what I worry about with a bicycle that does twice the speed is was designed for. The rim, the spokes, the frame - they are all too fragile for those speeds.
It nice to say that you can go around the junk in the road, or the potholes, but sometimes, you just can't. You're distracted like you are, or you are pinned into a narrow lane, or it's dark.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I hit the brakes but it was too late, was basically that block of wood or this car that was being stupid. I have spare wheel n jus went thru all the spokes. I think it'll be ok n the frame has no signs of damage. I went looking for cracks n all that but I'll be double checking when I'm actually doing the repairs.
Ohm_Slaw_@reddit
Sometimes you just don't have a choice.
Looks like the tire, spokes and rim served as a "crumple zone." Good luck with the repairs.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I hit so hard that the tubes exploded but the tires seem intact besides the impact taking a lil tread off one tire in a spot.
KevinBillingsley69@reddit
OMG, is this whole sub dedicated to torque arm shaming? Get over it, people. He'll add torque arms when he's ready to. He hit something so hard that it literally snapped the rim yet it's still attached, doesn't really seem like an issue.
OP, did you face plant or did you manage to stay upright through that? As usual, it's cars that are the problem, not us.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I was getting a bit irritated about that cuz it's not even relevant n part of the reason that I don't post much.
I almost wanna hang that rim up on my wall lol
My roommate saw the whole thing n he dunno how I stayed on the bike till it was stopped. That rim is busted in half, I've never done or seen anything like it.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
I'm just gonna guess you're short on cash, so fix the rim with the strongest J and B epoxy you can find combined with maybe some brackets if you can drill into it and set the brackets. The epoxy on its own might hold.
Then you just have to replace the tube.
Epoxy + tube: Maybe 60 bucks.
You can also maybe patch the tube.
If you're gonna use the brackets, you'll need to drill into the epoxied rim (so will need a drill and the right bits), will need to screw the brackets into the rim and then cut the ends of the screws off.
Add epoxy to the hole and all inside the internal part that touches the tube prior to setting the screws.
If you already have access to the drill and bits, maybe to borrow, you're still looking at a roughly 60 dollar fix. If you have to buy the drill and bits, expect it to be like 150, and, at that point, you may be better off replacing the rim.
wturber@reddit
I'm not sure if this guy is joking or not, but don't try to fix that rim. Get a replacement. Period.
If money is tight, scrounge an old wheel at a bike co-op or online at Craiglist or something similar.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
And what if they need it now and their market in OK is shit? What if they need it for work?
Not joking. They could add some electrical tape to wrap it. Failure in this case is unlikely to result in a crash anyway. It would feel like a flat tire and hitting a heavy curve.
Tell me you don't understand physics and poverty without telling me you don't understand physics and poverty.
wturber@reddit
I think you are the one having a problem with physics here. If the guy needs it for work, all the more reason not to make an unsafe and doomed to failure repair. For work you want reliability.
You say you aren't joking, but your recommendations seem very much like jokes. That or simple trolling. More likely the latter.
HackD1234@reddit
Tell me you don't know about wearing out some shoe leather and soles when there is nothing else. Poverty, does not excuse stupidity.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Hahaha, I'm not going to dish out my life story, but you are far off base. Obviously.
And yes, I agree, so, if they were poor, they shouldn't be stupid enough to not commit to a fix like this without extreme caution.
HackD1234@reddit
Not wanting to know your life story - but you ASSume too much, that you were/are the only one dirt poor at present or in the past. That excuse is a crutch.
Poor or not. That rim is roached. It's done. It's not pining for the Fjords. It's a dead parrot. You are suggesting a fix that would have it nailed to it's perch.
There is no 'extreme caution' with an unsafe fix. There is only do, or not do. No try.
People ARE idiots. Especially idiots who don't know any better.
I've got near 40 years of fucking with mechanical junk. Being of modest means, means i consider the MacGyver fix before replacement as a matter of routine. There is no way that is fixable, based on your repair premise - just based on the grossly unbalanced issue of a jury-rigged rim with a significant amount of oz's to make effective any 'repair'.
I'm not the one so stupid to make such bad advice in the first place, am i?
Just own your own bad advice.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
I didn't read a word of that other than the notification, but congrats on the essay.
For not wanting to know my life story you sure had something to say about it earlier, didn't you?
It would probably work. Take you present privilege and all your burnt money and get over it.
HackD1234@reddit
Stay broke. Stupid people tend to do that.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
You know what they say about assumptions, sweetie.
HackD1234@reddit
Sweetie? You looking for a hot date now?
Hate and Anger? No, merely intolerant of f*ing idiots giving out bad advice that could get others killed.
Maybe your life has that little value, to match your wallet. Other's, including the person you are giving shit advice to, might have better future earnings potential than you... should they outlive any shit advice offered up.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Sure, you seem like my type: Abusive.
HackD1234@reddit
I like smart people. Sorry chump, you ain't my type.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Is that the best you got? That you think I'm both poor and stupid? Surely that beer addled brain can come up with something better.
System.out.println("Go to therapy.")
HackD1234@reddit
ASSumption made. I don't drink, regard.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Oof, you don't even drink and you're like this? Didn't even get anything out of it.
HackD1234@reddit
Original Post Author is warned off from your nonsense. Mission accomplished.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Dude, your memory must be slipping, cause they have an alternative fix and an okay amount of money for repair.
It doesn't even apply. 😂
If you think you've accomplished anything with this other than shortening your lifespan, I'm afraid you're mistaken.
HackD1234@reddit
Thankfully they do have a fix, as an alternative to your idiocy.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Wow, another of the same ones. I'd bet you're fun at parties.
Have a blessed weekend, you very angry man.
picklewig47b@reddit
That comment wins something today. Not sure what.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Hopefully a blessing.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I have a spare wheel n not that short on cash. I'm trying to avoid buying a new kit if possible but shall see.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Right on. With a spare wheel you don't have to jury rig as much, and if you have some dosh, you're good.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I know the spare wheel will need a spoke or 2 and it'll be hardwired which is fine. Bought a new kit and when I was replacing thing I did find wires that got cut by the speakers that I'd occasionally tie on with mini bungee cords. Had errors but I'm sure that wheel is fine and was just those display wires causing that issue.
BicyclesOnMain@reddit
You trying to kill OP? That would never work.
Trick_Minute2259@reddit
I would never do it nor suggest anyone else to, but I'd bet if I cut and curved some thick plates for the inside and outside, used a ton of jb weld, and riveted it from the inside, it could work. Testing would be mostly static; I wouldn't trust it, and I would never let anyone else ride it. It's a terrible idea overall, especially as an amateur diy project for actual use at speed, but if done right, I do believe it could technically work.
BicyclesOnMain@reddit
Sure, to get home in an emergency, it may be a suitable temporary fix. But it wouldn't hold up long. Am I an expert? Well my two most recent careers have been bicycle mechanic and welder/fabricator, so yeah I know metallurgy and wheel building. Admirable-Rabbit-918 is purely speculating with zero knowledge on the subject.
Trick_Minute2259@reddit
I meant it more as an engineering and materials/bond strength experiment for static testing, done much more professionally than they suggested. I would certainly not do this roadside nor suggest anyone try this at home or ride something like this, even if done by a very skilled person.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Thanks.
Trick_Minute2259@reddit
No. It's a horrible idea, especially the way you described it , lol. I'm just saying if done right, the material strength should work, but I would never suggest anyone try doing this and then riding it. I would only do it for fun as an engineering experiment, and I would only do static testing, not actually ride it, especially not at speed or for regular use.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Yeah, the description was poor and half baked.
I'd put 1000 miles on a fix like that and feel like a god for it, myself.
Anyway, you have a good weekend.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
I think you've not tried similar things enough to know, frankly.
HackD1234@reddit
That really isn't redneck fixable. Replacing the rim, is the automatic go-to, rather than MacGyvering something fundamentally broken to that degree. Safety, is of paramount importance.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Eh, disagree. And safety is up to each person. I'm giving the fix that could well work, but they have to acknowledge that it could fail. They would be a fool not to.
HackD1234@reddit
No. You are giving out a Fool's advice.
Recklessness with Safety, can cause a very real risk to others, as well as potentially kill a person that takes that Fool's advice.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
If they were foolish enough to take it without extreme caution, that's not my problem.
That isn't even the situation anyway. They have a spare wheel and sufficient money to replace it.
HackD1234@reddit
You gave foolish advice that could literally get someone killed. That is a liability problem.
That is MY point.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
Riding a bike at all could get someone killed.
You're being Mx. SafetyFirst and that's fine. Own it. It's also about as useful as far as advice goes as like, a children's show.
Like, thanks mom, we know.
And it is on them to take the advice or not and handle it with caution. Work on that external locus of control; it will help you.
HackD1234@reddit
Mom says don't be a broke ass loser with bad advice that could kill someone.
But losers, will be losers.
My Momma raised no foolish loser.. not sure about yours.
Admirable-Rabbit-918@reddit
You mad? Seems like you're mad. Just attacking people's families, all sorts of things. That blood pressure must be through the roof!
Probably in the diet.
UhmDad@reddit
Are you ok? Seems to be the missing question
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Lotta ppl jus picking the bike apart lol
I was a lil rattled but I didn't wipe out or anything. Somehow I kept control till I stopped. Now I'll be hoping that my spare wheel has some use left on it.
UhmDad@reddit
Spare only needs to last 2 weeks or so lol glad your alright keep riding safe 🤙
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
My spare has like 4K in miles lol
It'll needs a lil spoke work but I think it'll go
MickyBee73@reddit
Voilamart kit by any chance?.. Had a few of them, the motor's are fine and can go fast if needed, but those rims they use aren't the strongest.
Get an mtx39 rim, and some black spokes, and you'll have a stronger motor wheel. You can peel off the mtx39 stickers too for a more 'stealth' look
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
It's just a generic wheel from eBay and I've never actually broke a wheel like that but I've also never hit anything like that either. It's still replaying in my head.
MickyBee73@reddit
Those rims aren't built to take knocks, you want a reinforced rim really, I've had no issues using the mtx39 rims, none at all.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Yeah I used to use them when I was building those 2 stroke bikes yrs ago. Loved em.
I do wanna get into building wheels but I'll need to get a few things in order to get into that. I've gotten good with spokes which used to be a weak area so I know I could do it.
MickyBee73@reddit
I've only done it once, was a Voilamart 1500w hub motor from (guess what...?) a knackered rim... So I put it in a mtx39rim, took a while but it turned out ok 👍
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I'm gonna take what I can off and outta that wheel for sure. Maybe it'll be a future project. I love doing shit like that. Right now I'm trying to avoid hitting my credit cards unless really needed lol
MickyBee73@reddit
👍 At least you're ok, that's all that matters.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I built my roommate a bike n he's had lotta accidents n crap. He was there when it happened cuz we was on our way home from work.
Jus a few mins ago I started cracking up n said "now that's how u have an accident" 🤣
MickyBee73@reddit
A good mate of mine once told me "never hit a tree in a car, you'd be surprised how damn unmovable even the small ones are!" 😂
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Bahahaha
HackD1234@reddit
The hub looks similar to a hub motor wheel i have on the shelf as a spare unused, i bought for a cancelled project. I've got the same one that the person above has, the MTX-39 wheel assembly - can't speak of it's reliability as unused, but it, but the rim is of good quality on it, and it's set up with 13ga spokes. Consistent tightness of spokes should be checked before installation, check balance with tire, and routinely check tightness of spokes with use, anyway.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I'm always going thru my spokes to be sure they're all the same. I've gotten very decent at it. I'm always tuning my brakes to be as tight as they can be as well. Can't tell u how many times that saved me.
HackD1234@reddit
Attaboy.. an ounce of Prevention is better than a pound of Cure. Nothing like having a wheel come apart, miles away from home... or even close to home, as you just experienced by wheel eating misadventure. If it's preventable with maintenance, you are ahead of the game.
My philosophy has always been that it had better stop as quick as she goes, as well. I've had more than my share of near-shart shorts, due to near-misses of the sheet metal 'i didn't see you!' crowd. Buy the best, that you can afford, for own sake.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I built 2 stroke bikes for yrs so I got used to going thru things consistently so I've kept on that. Brakes, lights and spikes are my peeves and they need to be in order or I'm taking an Uber cuz I don't like chances.
HackD1234@reddit
Taken the same route myself with the gas bikes, as well as regular motorcycle mechanics of the old school kind.
That's why i'm here. Less grease exposure over the long term with this stuff. Still gotta be safe in my books. Glad to see it's in yours as well.
Sorry to crap on your thread with that other guy, suggesting a bunk MacGyver fix. He needed to be corrected. I can't tell with that rim photo, but is it cast? The cheaper motor wheels often come with cast/machined wheels, and they take hits poorly, are unrepairable once taken a hit. It's not the crack/break you see, but the crack/break you don't..
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I kinda laughed about epoxy n all that like huh? Lol
Yeah those 2 stroke bikes are something else but u will learn alot from building those things. I've been building bikes for over a dozen yrs now that I think about it.
I wouldn't chance trying to do anything with that wheel besides parting it out.
Troubleindc2@reddit
Glad you're OK.
I'm a big fan of wtb kom tough rims and Vittoria liners for this specific scenario. There are wheel builders you can pay to put custom wheelsets together.
Get past a certain amount of hours/miles on the bike from regular commuting and it's natural to start demanding higher end components.
IRONMANS0N@reddit
I did the same thing before hitting a derelict muffler on the side of the highway. Shit sucks
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
That would suck too lol
I'm lucky to have a spare wheel jus sitting around so I'll end up getting that thing going. It'll need a lil spoke work which is fine and it has like 4K in miles. I'll get another kit if needed but I'm trying to hold off for a bit if I can.
BladeManMike@reddit
Damn that rim is busted busted. I have a similar hub kit and once I hit a pot hole a ways from home popped the tire and since my bike is a heavy Tribrid I wasn't going to walk it back so rode on the rim home trashed the rim. I just bought a double walled rim wheel same size for cheap and put the rim on my electric hub. It's not difficult just make sure to lace up the spokes in the same pattern.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I've never busted a rim or hit anything close to that. My bike is heavy as well, probably like 100lbs so I had that working for me as well. I got a spare wheel that I'm gonna get on there n hopefully it's enough.
BladeManMike@reddit
Hopefully so. I just wanted to let you know it's fairly easy to get a new rim and spokes for your hub since no reason to buy completely new if the hub still works.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I'm gonna salvage what I can off that wheel and if needed(which I doubt) I'll use parts on my other wheel.
Strict_Armadillo_349@reddit
I would order a whole new wheel. You need expensive specialized equipment to make sure that the wheel is properly balanced when you re-spoke it.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I have a spare wheel but I'll be taking what I can from that wheel
AviationMetalSmith1@reddit
You mean a wheel chock. That is meant to stop a truck from rolling.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Fucking something 🤣🤣
Hironoveau@reddit

So you hit the wood with brakes locked/applied?
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Yeah that too and I always get bikes that have the front shocks cuz they save me alot with potholes n crap like that
wturber@reddit
Yes. I put about 15k miles on a similarly built ebike and the front end ate up potholes fine. It was always the unsuspended rear that would give me the business - transmitting the shock up the seatpost if I didn't see and anticipate. If you see it coming, you can always use your legs as shocks. But if not ...
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I usually lean forward n let my front take it. My street kinda sucks so I go kinda slow cuz it's jus hell anyway lol
tricksareforme@reddit
Hope repairs aren’t too painful.

I have a spare wheel that I'm gonna work with for now n hopefully that don't have too many issues besides a spoke that needs to be fixed. Ordered new tubes but they'll take a couple days. For now I'm waiting on my gf to scoop me up.
wturber@reddit
If money is tight, great time to learn how to build a wheel. You just need to find a replacement rim and spokes. Access to a truing stand would be nice also.
I noticed that you only have a tabbed locking washer on the left side of the hub. Do you have a torque arm on the right or just another tabbed washer? If no torque arm and running greater than 750 watts, I suggest getting a torque arm. Failing that, be sure to always check the rear wheel nuts and keep them torqued to 40NM or more. Having steel dropouts and good torque may get you by, but adding some torque arm insurance would be a good idea.

How much + over 30? Bike lanes are notoriously littered with crap kicked there by cars. Best to keep conditions in mind when riding that fast.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Probably like 32 lol
This wasn't my usual route of travel either n it was either that piece of wood or the car next to me that was being stupid
wturber@reddit
You were in a semi-separated (flex poles) bike lane. What was the car doing? When cars are a bother or distraction to me, I just slow down and let them get well past me.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Cars here drive thru those poles often. I was slowing down but not soon enough lol
Negative-Wishbone634@reddit
Yikes
letstourthemaritimes@reddit
Did you think it was a paper bag or something? Just curious how you came about to making contact with that. Looks like a solid hit!
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
I had a car that I was trying to avoid basically I thought it was a bag at first n was trying to avoid it anyway but got more concerned about that car. I hit my brakes but hit that shit anyway unfortunately
letstourthemaritimes@reddit
Glad you’re ok!
Chilkoot@reddit
Bum rap - hope you didn't get rattled too bad.
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
Not really. Jus a lil irritated lol
Significant-Pen-6049@reddit
Glad you’re ok bud!!!
Nickledyme20@reddit (OP)
That was a close one. So glad that I keep my brakes super tight.
