Holodeck body fluids question

If someone was using the holodeck for an extended period of time and poops, pees, or um other body fluids, when they exit the program does it just splat on the floor? Is there a cleaner for the holodeck? Does it get transportered into space? Phasered into powder? Thank you

Don't forget shedded skin cells, hair, sweat, etc.
DumpsterFireInHell@reddit
I wouldn't use a holodeck immediately after Riker.
thestellajay@reddit
Bet the rowdy, too-smart preteens on board make a sport out of sneaking in with a black light after Riker's been there.

If somebody uh… soiled the wall-to-wall carpeting in the holodeck the simulation would simply adjust its parameters and create distortions in perspective to prevent anybody from walking through it. The spatial relationships of the projections would be distorted so that the mistake on the carpeted deck never gets stepped on.
Once the simulation is ended the self-cleaning self-maintaining functions would magically eliminate the piles or puddles. In my mind for example the carpeted decks in the Enterprise have a nanoscale mechanism that subtly causes every particle of dust or dirt to move as if by itself across the area towards inconspicuous collectors integrated into the trim where the bulkheads meet the deck.

Every bladder and bowel on the ship is constantly monitored and emptied by the transporter. No one ever has to go to the bathroom.
Kulban@reddit
Again likely why there's only one public bathroom on the entire 1701-D, and it's in a spot most people don't have access to (the bridge).

And thats the reason for the Zephram Cochran pee joke in First Contact.
"Dont you people from the 24th century ever pee?"

“Leak? I’m not detecting any leak.”
Frosenborg@reddit
I think you need to pee and poo to keep things working, when you leave the ship after weeks or months.

The holodeck contains replicators in addition to holoprojectors. Some things on the holodeck are real. Food & drink, for example. Wesley crusher gets wet on the holodeck and stays wet when he leaves. People eat and drink on the holodeck all the time.
Replicators can both construct and deconstruct matter. So, when the program shuts off, the real food at the holographic dinner table is deconstructed and returned to the matter storage tanks, and so is everything else that was introduced into the holodeck.
It's not expanded upon, but we are told the ship cleans itself. Likely a bit part of that is replicator/transporter technology as we don't see cleaning robots running around or anything like that.

A couple of times this is the source of peril, turning the holodeck off, when it was playing up, would dematerialise everything on it including the crew.

Interesting, do you remember a

Oh my god, I imagine this that the computer has a massive blueprint on how the ship "should be". But then it has a thousand humans on it creating a ton of dust and dirt and whatever matter we create to exist. The ship "cleans" itself, but it has to know exactly what not to clean. Fingernails on the floor are gone, but you would want those on your fingers to stay. Unless the ship also has a blueprint of everyone on board. Keeping them "clean" and "empty". If every dirt particle is transported away, that would create a massive energy demand. Also, the ship would need constant updates on the situation on what is being repaired/altered. Everyone is basically being monitored 24/7, inside and out. Sounds like a horror film. And that computer tends to glitch.

Lower Decks and Disco answered this with the crewman that had to mop that shit up.
Both on the holodeck and in the spore cube

Holodeck waste removal? That’s Klingon prison stuff.

Like all human waste its split down into molecules which go into the raw material cache of food replicators.

The enterprise recycles everything ♻️
universal_century@reddit
Can you imagine if the holodeck just messes that up though? Computer goes “oh look, some human waste” and because of a misaligned sensor array it takes off half of somebody’s body

Drakeytown@reddit
It's a self cleaning ship. No reason that would be any less true on the holodeck. The real question is this: if you poopon the holodeck, when does the poop you pooped stop being real?
Brony_Danza@reddit (OP)
So if someone took a dump in the holodeck it could be recycled as matter and turn into Worf’s prune juice or Picard’s earl grey?
mcgrst@reddit
If you take a dump anywhere on a starship odds are it'll be tomorrow's dinner.

Waste not, want not.

All connected to the transporter matter reclamation system.

There's a lower decks episode for you to watch
gfunkdave@reddit
In Lower Decks they specifically mention the junior officers needing to clean the holodeck filters as a sort of awful task that needs to be done…so probably that.
Sea-Quality4726@reddit
The holodeck uses replicators so it dematerializes waste along with the props. That's why Wesley was scared that a hard power down would also recycle the occupants.
jack_begin@reddit
We can chalk that up to some season 1 writing jankiness. No one would release the holodeck for use if the hard shutdown had a risk of sudden disintegration of all occupants.
Sea-Quality4726@reddit
I figured it was Wesley not having any experience and freaking out about safety, but nobody argued with him, so I figure the system works in principle in a way it could do that.
Used-Gas-6525@reddit
It's only forcefields and light. Someone's gotta mop out those things and I guarantee like 75% of holodeck activity is NSFW. Maybe they have a hatch that can just blow everything out into space, but it's not clear.
Battle_of_BoogerHill@reddit
Ah! I see what you did there!
And it smells like bleach. But it ain't bleach. Nor is it clear
Future-Atmosphere-40@reddit
Dude, is everything ok at home?
dufflebag7@reddit
The holodeck rug really tied the room together.
Agitated_Web4034@reddit
It probably goes in to the replicator like all the other waste products 😀
