Put everyone on parole

Just for like a week when you hit 25 or something. Conditions of parole are randomised. That's important because it's to see if you can keep your nose clean for a week even when you think the rules are stupid. There's a certain kind of dickhead who can't stand being told what to do and I think this would filter them out. I dedicate this policy to the guy who could not believe that he wasn't allowed to bring his dog into a cafe today. I don't know what the punishment should be for failing, but I guess the reward is like one free misdemeanor.

You want to filter society for obedience? I think the issue here is that I think your goals are monstrous. The method basically makes sense to work towards your abhorrent goals.

I think you might be confusing abiding by an arbitrary rule with blind obedience towards authority. That's why it's important that the terms of parole be random, and not what an authority determines is 'good'. I do think the ability to disobey an unjust law is equally as important as the ability to abide by arbitrary but harmless rules. I just don't know how to write a law that people are legally required to break, could get a little bit paradoxy.

Could you, for my benefit, use simpler words to explain what you mean by "filtering society for obedience"? For example, the law says we have to drive on a certain side of the road. That side is arbitrary, but it is not unjust. If you break that law, you are punished. Is that filtering for obedience?

I don't think you're having a problem with the words. I think the distinction is that what's arbitrary about driving on one side of the road is \*which side,\* but the fundamental reason for that rule is completely sensible and non-arbitrary. We pick a side of the road to drive on because we don't want to crash into each other. Many laws and rules, including the one you have proposed, are \*fundamentally\* arbitrary. And there \*is no value\* to obeying fundamentally arbitrary rules and laws. It is, in fact, wholly negative.

I'm asking you to use simpler words because we don't seem to have a shared understanding of longer words like obedience, catastrophically, or methodology (I think from the context you meant method, but with other words it's not clear what you mean.) I honestly do want to understand your point of view, it would help me a lot if you used simpler words.
