All banking as well.
Burningbeard696@reddit
God no. Having to go to a computer to do something I can do in 30 seconds on my phone is mad. This thread is giving boomer vibes.
SlackerDS5@reddit
Banking apps have gotten much better. Unless it’s something like account creation or loan stuff, I use my phone.
chicagotodetroit@reddit
I’m the opposite there. My credit union did some security upgrades, and now if I use the computer to log in, I have to enter my username and password, AND use the webcam to have my picture taken for facial recognition.
I only use the app now because I can just use my username and password.
AndrewInMN@reddit
I’m all phone now. I have a decent laptop at home that hasn’t been turned on in forever and I haven’t had a working desktop computer at home in years. I’ll look stuff up at work on a desktop sometimes but that’s about it.
Burningbeard696@reddit
Yeah, pcs take up so much space and are an unnecessary expense.
tragiccosmicaccident@reddit
Same, I'd be stressed out having to get my old laptop out to do anything on it
nitrot150@reddit
I stil love my desktop, two monitors is super helpful
black_cat_X2@reddit
I use my laptop for work or if I have a zoom where I care about having a good camera angle but otherwise do everything on my phone. The screen is big enough these days, it's already in my hands, why not?
cervezamonkey@reddit
Absolutely! Phones are definitely big enough now. I use mine for everything, only turn laptop on for gaming or downloading movies
LizM75@reddit
My laptop is for watching shows.
aspbergerinparadise@reddit
Get out
XennialToothFairy@reddit
I’ve been booking flights on phone apps for years.
Nanocephalic@reddit
Does anyone actually think that a laptop is a big screen, or is this post just bait?
marmot1101@reddit
Who wants to do complicated things on an 8 inch screen when I have a perfectly huge monitor to compare a bunch of different options side by side.
pizza5001@reddit
Also, type one a keyboard with all the digits of my hand, versus two thumbs on a mobile screen.
A computer is more efficient for tasks that require research and reference.
73-68-70-78-62-73-73@reddit
Right? 34" 3440×1440. I can compare three or four browser windows side by side. Phones just aren't as convenient for that kind of thing.
rjcpl@reddit
Laptop? No, that’s a desktop activity.
brainfreeze77@reddit
Dual monitor for sure.
R_T800@reddit
Nope 24 inch.
Glittering-Show-5521@reddit
Dual 24s. Gotta think big.
pizza5001@reddit
Gotta break out the spreadsheet, too.
Just_call_me_Face@reddit
Desktop? No, that's in person activity.
lollipop-guildmaster@reddit
Well, look at you with your executive function and lack of crippling social anxiety.
Dabnician@reddit
I had to register a appointment online 2 weeks in advance to change the name on my car title after spending two weeks getting the courage to go to the secretary of state... only to then find out about the appointment thing.
tcpukl@reddit
Full hd?
fishm0ng3r@reddit
Not before you call the 1-800 num to verify it's in stock.
SlackerDS5@reddit
Next thing, you’ll be saying I should like outside or touch grass. That’s crazy talk.
LMurch13@reddit
Lets not go that far...
Novus20@reddit
Hey now let’s not get out of hand here……
nudave@reddit
Amen. I have a MacBook Pro with a Studio Display. Some purchases 100% require plugging in to the display.
_ism_@reddit
yeah. we have those! for reasons just like this!
Darkpriest667@reddit
yeah I rarely trust big purchases on any wireless connection :-)
I_Fart_It_Stinks@reddit
Multiple tabs make it so much easier to compare prices. Much easier on a laptop.
Cinderhazed15@reddit
Also, ctrl-f to find something on the page!
StopClockerman@reddit
Why is it that there is no control F option on phones??
CallidoraBlack@reddit
There is.
Cinderhazed15@reddit
Tell me, oh wise one!
E6DA@reddit
On iOS Safari, you click the box with the up arrow in it. Bottom center of the screen. It's technically the "share" button, but some of the functions including "Find on Page" are located there.
Blando-Cartesian@reddit
WTF Apple.
I’ve been using the even less obvious method of writing on the address field and selecting find on page from there.
CallidoraBlack@reddit
On web browsers, check the bar that you open look at your bookmarks. Find in page or something similar should be there.
oskich@reddit
You can also use VPNs and other browser add-ons that gives lower prices because they can't track your habits and location. You can get much better deals from a computer compared to a phone which usually gives a limited browsing experience.
BathZealousideal1456@reddit
The reason my photo album is just full of screenshots I never delete just in case
EricRShelton@reddit
Mistrust of mobile browsers.
Overall-Author-2213@reddit
TABS! I need to have my tabs!
Kurfaloid@reddit
If I'm at home I'm not even ordering takeout from my phone. I'm going to my desk to use my computer.
[This comment written at my desk.]
clutzycook@reddit
I had this exact discussion with my daughter a couple of months ago. She was getting ready to apply to colleges (I know, I know) and she was just going to do it on her phone. I was all "NOOOOOOOO," and told her to sit her ass down at the desktop.
CriminalSavant@reddit
Laptop screen is your 'big' screen?
crazycatlady331@reddit
It's my biggest screen. I haven't had a desktop in years.
In fact I sold my TV (TV/VCR combo) at a garage sale for $5 about a decade ago. I watch shows on my tablet (7 inch screen) in bed.
chicagotodetroit@reddit
Do you have a bigger screen than that?
I mean, I use external monitors for my laptop, but the laptop is still the big screen when compared to my phone.
Koss424@reddit
That’s a travel agent job.
gandolfthe@reddit
Also mobile sites are hot garbage and how can you sort through 100 tabs if information at a time on dam phone
crazycatlady331@reddit
I don't like doing most web stuff on my phone.
I hate touchscreen keyboards. I'll use them if necessary but anything (like Reddit) happens from my laptop.
Mediocritys_finest@reddit
Dude I bought my house on my phone
Aggravating-Alarm-16@reddit
Cincymailman@reddit
I bought my last car on my iPhone. They delivered it right to my door.
tekanet@reddit
For me it’s a matter of app/site, not screen size. I generally prefer PC because most of the websites suck on mobile. A good chunk of apps for purchasing suck too.
But if I consider Amazon for instance, app or PC screen doesn’t really matter. In some cases, mobile purchase is even better because there’s a limited amount of clutter you can stuff in the phone screen (I’m thinking of Ryanair or Easyjet for flights, for instance).
So my issue at the end of the day is with mobile devs I guess.
Cincymailman@reddit
That thought never crosses my mind. Of course, I haven’t touched a pc in probably 15 years. I wouldn’t even know how to turn it on, most likely.
genesimmonstongue415@reddit
My real answer is: I'm going to misspell something important with my thumb, & then submit it.
SBSnipes@reddit
I'm a generation young for this sub, but for our hotels on the way home for Christmas I booked a month out on a desktop with a wired connection, panicked that something went wrong and called the hotel to double check
Joeva8me@reddit
I double check every reservation I get online. Restaurants to dog sitters to hotels. Airplanes I usually am okay without a call. But these days if I’m reserving something I can’t miss it so I’m at least getting a human to double check I didn’t misclick, and I’m in IT. Best way to never trust computers is to work with them
red286@reddit
Oddly, the only time I've ever been fucked by a reservation was one I made at a physical travel agency.
My flight was arriving on Thursday and departing the following Friday. The hotel room was booked for 6 nights. I didn't notice that until I arrived at the hotel, and they told me checkout would be next Thursday morning by noon, and I was like "noooo it'd be Friday, wouldn't it?" and they told me, "nope, says here you're booked for 6 nights, not 7."
And considering it was Las Vegas for CES, I kinda freaked out, but fortunately they had no problem extending me for one more night, but that was the last time I used FlightCentre to book a trip.
usernames_suck_ok@reddit
I do not see how people use Reddit on a cell phone!
DrMcJedi@reddit
Reddit is one of the few things I mainly do on mobile…
CompletelyBedWasted@reddit
I just realized that I've never owned a computer in my life....I used one at work, my parents had one, an ex had one...I'm above average on computer literacy for my age I think but, I do everything via smartphone since 2010....wow. lol
geekgirlwww@reddit
So I had a gaming pc my stbx husband built me but when it stopped working I gave it back to him to salvage for the parts. I bought a used MacBook but honestly I barely use it. The iPhone handles all my needs. I’ve got my other toys for entertainment (steam deck, switch, iPad and kindle)
ken830@reddit
What did you do between the years 1999 and 2010?
CompletelyBedWasted@reddit
Drugs
mexter@reddit
I use Boost for Reddit. I once tried the official app and vowed to never repeat the mistake.
EddieLobster@reddit
That’s silly
red286@reddit
My phone is going to leak my precise GPS location, and they're going to see that I'm in a fairly expensive region and figure I can absolutely afford an extra 15% tacked on.
LadyAsharaRowan@reddit
I refinanced my entire house on my cell phone.
AshDogBucket@reddit
Because the phone could just crash, could randomly stop being connected to the internet mid transaction....or I could accidentally navigate away from the window more easily than I could on a computer.
ConcreteKeys@reddit
Blanket over lap, check. Plate of snacks to refuel, check. Stack of coupons in order of importance, check. Emotional support dog by my side when websites crash out, check. Finally... opens laptop. Do I want to donate?..Keep the change, ya filthy animals.
elkniodaphs@reddit
Every time I see this, my thought is... why wouldn't you book a flight on a phone? But then I remember, they're talking about a digital booking, and I'm thinking about a phone call to a travel agent.
qtjedigrl@reddit
Desktop*
Icy_Hippo@reddit
if it involves a phone call Im not booking shit, if it is online I'll buy and book till the end of time, and flights must be done on a laptop or desktop same with any large purchase lol
mramseyISU@reddit
I do everything on my iPad these days. Just use a laptop for work.
canisdirusarctos@reddit
Not really. Only complex stuff with a lot of moving parts requires a computer. I book travel and buy a lot of things using a phone.
_ficklelilpickle@reddit
Yes, certain things need to be done on big internet. Not little internet. Little internet is way too relaxed and social for serious business.
Guitargirl81@reddit
Dang phone screen is too small and crowded. I’ll eff something up!
My wife will do anything on her phone. I open up the trusty laptop for anything important. I understand that I’m ridiculous.
xpacean@reddit
Once I saw an ad for an app bragging that you could get a mortgage on your phone in as little as five minutes. A mortgage!!
palomadelmar@reddit
Are desktops outdated?
BeefModeTaco@reddit
I feel so Boomer when it comes to this stuff. I hate doing things on my phone, and much prefer doing everything on my PC.
StillhasaWiiU@reddit
I don't trust my phone battery or internet to have it fail before the process is finished.
Cinderhazed15@reddit
Also sometimes network security
Ayanok@reddit
iPad activity 🤣
Aggravating-Try1222@reddit
I'm all phone. I've barely touched a laptop or desktop in over a decade.
SignificantApricot69@reddit
My last Desktop died recently and I did not replace. I have 3 working laptops and still wish I had the desktop sometimes. Also, I’ve been buying and selling online since the ‘90s so I’m more than comfortable with that aspect, but some things about phones and apps/browsers seem less clear and more likely to make an error or have an issue with the data entry etc than typing and navigating on a full keyboard computer. And I have a modern iPhone but my Samsung from 2004 had a better keyboard and clearer navigation to me
VinceAmonte@reddit
Laptop?!?! I need a destop for that lol!
Greedy_Camp_5561@reddit
Big screen shows more info, and PC input devices are less error prone.
tml212@reddit
I anxiously bought concert tickets (Megadeth 😎) today using my phone and even though everything worked out and I have the tickets loaded into my wallet, I'm still worried that the sale didn't go through and the tickets won't work.
TuckerCarlsonsOhface@reddit
I mean, phone browsers don’t always work well with some websites. It’s not like this is because of a weird hang-up. I’ve had so many times where the login won’t work, or the order doesn’t process properly on the phone browser, and have to go to the computer, so there’s no way I’m going to rely on it for a big purchase.
thomas_ardwolf@reddit
Agree! Some things need a REAL computer.
swmtchuffer@reddit
Besides thinking my phone will sabotage me all of my passwords are saved on the computer but not on my phone usually.
tshallberg@reddit
Adding Chrome account to my phone was a game changer.
swmtchuffer@reddit
Yeah, I'm just more worried about losing my phone and having everything saved. Laptop doesn't really leave the house.
latca@reddit
The phone is more susceptible to l33t haxors.
flerchin@reddit
Because mistyping is much more likely on phone. Because comparison shopping is much easier on the big screen. Because clearing your cookies so that the websites don't persist prices on you is easier on desktop. Because lining up the multiple purchases of plane tickets, ground transport, lodging, activities, is easier with multiple screens/tabs.
You can go phone only, but you'll for sure pay more, and the SNAFU rate will be higher.
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
Doctor’s paperwork or government documents. Many are not mobile friendly.
Entire-Order3464@reddit
Book 95% of my airline travel via phone. For some specific stuff I'll use a computer. With flexible dates the airline apps don't work so well on phones compared to a laptop where they give you a matrix of leave and return dates.
jurzdevil@reddit
Airlines sneak JFK or LGA in with search results for EWR. infuriating but much easier to catch in a full sized browser.
RobMV03@reddit
This is the modern day equivalent of Seinfeld, "Yes, I have call waiting, but I don't trust it in an emergency!" (Hangs up on his mother)
Super-History-388@reddit
Most apps are limited and pretty shitty. I like being able to open multiple tabs.
Funkopedia@reddit
i call my travel agent
96385@reddit
We can rank all our purchases on the phone to in-person continuum.
TijayesPJs443@reddit
I go full desktop
DarksunDaFirst@reddit
I use giant ink blotter with a calender, my checkbook, and set of carrier pigeons. Sometimes I have a rotary by my side to help if needed.
Anything else is too much or technology reliant.
DifferentTrip2509@reddit
Boomer takes taking hold of the sub
PilotC150@reddit
ElectricPenguin6712@reddit
Oh goody. It's not just me lol
HomesnakeICT@reddit
I (M44) had an electronic purchase fail three times in the last few days because I didn't use a proper computer. I'll admit user error was a factor (I moved, but had not updated my billing information), but the website was NOT designed with mobile in mind, and important things were obscured behind floating banners. Took a laptop to do the job right.
DrMcJedi@reddit
Mobile sites suck compared to their desktop site…I will die on this hill.
FunkyBisexualPenguin@reddit
I mean, it just works better 🤷 If people want to complicate their lives, they can do as they please 😉
Repulsive_Glove6085@reddit
I absolutely had to use my computer to buy a car.
Consistent-Ad-6506@reddit
I have a laptop and have booked flights on my phone for years. I guess if you have multiple browsers up it would be easier on laptop…
JeffTS@reddit
Laptop or desktop for me. I typically hate browsing via mobile.
Baked_Potato_732@reddit
Traveling for work broke me of the need to use a PC for purchasing flights. I’ve had to purchase a flight on the run to the airport for an emergency dispatch or flight change before.
lordnecro@reddit
I had to book a flight on a phone in a hospital, it was way too stressful. I need my desktop with ultrawide monitors and a mouse for something like that.
Baked_Potato_732@reddit
Well, it depends on if you have to search airlines, prices etc. I always flew southwest so I’d just pop the app and put where I wanted to go and grab the next flight.
drewbaccaAWD@reddit
I don't like doing anything on my phone, if I can avoid it. I don't like typing on a flat screen, I find mobile web browsers more finicky, it's harder to read.. add all those together and there's an argument for avoiding it for more important tasks.
Of course, if I have to, I can... but I'd rather not. Besides, if I'm booking flights, I probably have several windows/tabs open at once and it's easier to go back and forth on a laptop or desktop browser.
ElGranQuesoRojo@reddit
I don't like doing major things like that on my phone b/c the phone apps are often bare bones and have a shitty user interface. It's also a hell of a lot easier to use multiple windows on a laptop to compare prices than it is on a phone.
VerbalK23@reddit
Imagine if I told you tablets exist
EffectiveCycle@reddit
I have airline apps on my phone so that isn’t a big deal. Everything else though? Laptop only.
garden__gate@reddit
I recently started booking flights on my phone. Yeah, I’m young and cool.
Emotional_Fortune78@reddit
POV: you live in Greece and you need to do stuff with the public sector... You live in Greece and have to deal with shitty banking apps...
naitch@reddit
Phones aren't really very good for any complicated task. The form factor sucks.
Smurfblossom@reddit
I make all of my purchases on either a desktop or laptop. I have zero patience to sit there on the mobile app version of whatever business and their stupidly small buttons and pictures trying to buy something.
RipErRiley@reddit
I get unnecessarily angry when I fat finger misspell things on my phone.
