A question for software developers

What will you do when AI writes programs faster than you? Elon claims that a day will come when working is optional. I love the guy but he's full of crap. How will our children develop self esteem? People who don't work become obsessed with controlling those who do and we know where they end up: politics.
Screw all of that, I have a project for you that will take the rest of your life to finish.
In the LP2dot0 community that I created 2 days ago, I am outlining a new kind of government based upon a new Bill of Rights. I have had to create clean definitions for a number of concepts currently used quite often but seldom understood:
- Morality
- The components of a Moral Code
- goal
- Virtues (righteous actions)
- Virtue purity rule (I'll explain in LP2dot0)
- mans survival moral code
- goal is survival
- survival virtues
- Choice
- Seeking the Truth
- Self Defense
- Creating a survival identity
- survival virtue purity rule: no act is a virtue if it violates any of man's survival virtues.
- Man's common goal: Survival
- The history of the analysis that led to the identification of the four virtues
- The identification of the nature of an act of human predation (one person preying upon another person)
- Freedom definition: the unrestricted opportunity to perform the virtues of man's survival moral code.
- Man's unalienable rights: the survival virtues.
- The logical path that led to identifying the ONLY rational purpose of government: to enhance and clarify the virtue of self defense and the creation of a new legal system.
- New Laws whose purpose is to protect man's survival virtues.
- each Law has to describe an act of human predation and specify what virtues were violated by the act. No Law is valid if it doesn't specify which virtue is being violated.
- a new court system without judges
- all trialss are performed in virtual space
- the juries vary in size depending upon the seriousness of the penalties that can be imposed.
- Laws are requested by citizens and they trigger the Law creation process.
- All work in the new system that takes the place of our representatives is performed by short duration ad-hoc congresses made up of citizens.
- There are as many ad-hoc congress types as are necessary to fulfill the functions of gov't. Size of the ad-hoc congress is defined in the Ad-hoc congress table. More detail will be provided in LP2dot0.
- Common wealth issues are handled locally by the citizens in the locale of the common-wealth issue. Ad-hoc congresses composed of citizens selected from the local will deal with the Common Wealth issue.
- common wealth rules are not put in Law, they are managed by ordinances (at least that is the current idea)
- it will be the purpose of this project to automate as many of the functions as possible.
- LP2dot0 will be constantly updated with more details (databases needed, etc)
There is no need to worry about what we'll be doing when robots do all the menial stuff, this will provide years of work.
All of the work and testing will be done in virtual space using simulated real life issues.
You won't be paid for this work but instead you will be part owner of the product when it is finished.
Join LP2dot0 to help.

Educational Response:
AI and programming automation is certainly advancing, but we're still far from the scenario where AI fully replaces software developers. Current AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT can help with routine tasks, but they're still assistants rather than replacements.
The concern about work disappearing entirely misunderstands how technology typically reshapes employment rather than eliminates it. When automation arrives in a field, the nature of work changes - developers will likely shift to higher-level design, oversight of AI systems, and solving novel problems that AI cannot.
Regarding your libertarian framework, I find it interesting that you're tackling fundamental concepts like morality and freedom. However, I'

AI will replace CEOs long before they replace programmers.

Software dev here. It won't take my job because there is a lot more to my job than just writing code. It helps me immensely in my job but it won't ever take it.
LowYak3@reddit
Not a software developer, electrical engineering technology student. AI already writes code faster than me, and Im pretty sure it writes it faster than any human could.
Vociferix@reddit
I'm a software developer, and I've also worked on AI (but I'm not an AI expert). He's very full of it. There's lots of opinions and theories about the future of AI, but personally, I'm confident AI is going to reach a capability plateau (I think it's already there now), that will likely last the rest of our lives. And AI today is only good enough to be a helpful (debatable) tool that needs a lot of human guidance.

This has been an irrational fear since the beginning of time.
Jobs just change when the old ones/methods are obsolete.
Roman's, Greeks, medieval people's all eras thought these things.
It's fear based on ignorance of economics.
skeletus@reddit
He said it will eliminate all jobs the require a computer. He didn't say it will eliminate every single job. Manual jobs won't go away.
elg97477@reddit
Do you realize that every generation of software developers thought the next new tool would take all their jobs? Yes, this thinking started with the advent of computers.
They won’t. They will and do allow me to develop software faster. They are a powerful tool.

You are 100% correct, if we are talking about the vast majority of people in software development. Some, like yourself and possibly me have seen first hand the algorithms for binary searches, inserts, machine emulation which were new at the time. We brought such things with us when we changed employers and now those tools are part of enormous coding librarites that also contain the means to create working interfaces between what we're working on now with the crystalized algorithms in the libraries.
I know exactly what you're talking about and if you go through my entire original post you'd see why I say that. In my career, I've solved a peripheral processing problems on CDC's cyber 6000 mainframe, (designed by Cray) by slogging through the machine code of a test program, blah, blah and isolating the hardware failure to one of 3 cards in the PPU "barel". When troubleshooting hardware became a swap and hope it works process I left and was offered a beginner's position writing in IBM assembler. I wrote a program on my first vacation that emulated a merganthaler 202 typesetting machine and was able to print on a xerox 9700 page printer instead of cutting film for proofing and using huge 3 color printing presses. And that was in my early years. I could continue bragging but that is most certainly not my intent.
But the project I touched lightly upon in my OP requires the kind of help and skillsets that I no longer can claim to have. i'm 77, almost totally blind, not in the best of health right now but there is one thing I am 100% certain of and that's the project I mentioned in my OP. It's huge. It is for a new design for government that has never been done before. There were too many unknowns, now I think I've solved them.
In that project which is based upon the foundation principles of the Humanities, I define, from scratch Morality and what it actually is. I define what man's rights actually are and can prove them. I know exactly what Freedom really means. The theory behind the project will destroy all governments that do not protect man's rights and freedom. It returns political power to the individual because the responsibility of governance is in the hands of the citizens. But I need a LOT of help to make it happen. I don't have time for pissing contests or trying to show who has the largest member. Too much is at stake. Just creating the Laws in the new legal system will take hundreds if not thousands of people because all work is performed in ad-hoc congresses composed of randomly selected citizens walking the Law request through to Mock Trials and so much more. It cannot be implemented until it is finished and by that time I think enough people will understand the theory inside and out.
We are on the brink of a nuclear winter and the likely destruction of our species. I am trying to give us a light at the end of the tunnel. You seem to have the kind of background that would be helpful so accept my invitation to join LP2dot0. Consider it a request from one old warhorse to another.

Back in the 80s there was a software package called The Last One (supposedly the last program anyone would need). It was a code generator that would take user input to design a program, then it would spit out a program in bug-free BASIC. Obviously it wasn't the last program. The programs it wrote were mainly just flat database type applications.
Real AI may someday take over for humans but the current state of this technology called "AI" is just hype and not ready for primetime. Any code generated still needs human direction and supervision but they can aid in faster development.

> I love the guy but he's full of crap.
He's beyond full of crap. He's nothing but a grifter, a giant fraud. His entire image fabricated and his companies are a giant sham too suck in money from investors. There is nothing he has to say that is worth listening to.
Work will never go away entirely. Technology may bring us a future where we hardly need to work but there's always going to be the need for humans, if for no other reason than to do planning and make decisions though technology can also provide tools to expedite those tasks too.
