My sister had one of these because she was scared of the dark. She's crawl into bed with me some nights when it was storming outside or something and she always had this thing with her.
FigureFourWoo@reddit
Yes. They weren’t very snuggly with their plastic face.
evolkitty@reddit
So many of our toys in the 80’s had plastic faces. Glow worms, cabbage patch kids, popples, kid sister…
TheQueefyQuiche@reddit
Teddy Roxbin (sp?) was like a plastic brick loaded with D batteries, covered in a thin later of fabric.
amaurer3210@reddit
Don't forget about Grubby, he was twice the size and even heavier!
No_Kaleidoscope9901@reddit
You also had to squeeze it really hard to get it to light up.
Jonestown_Juice@reddit (OP)
I guess that was the trade-off for being able to glow.
nocountryforolddick@reddit
i still have it since 1989, well not me but my daughter...
Iceprincess1282@reddit
It was my 1st gift I got for my son when I found out I was pregnant in 2011! I wanted him to have some sort of connection with his parents.
EL3MENTALIST@reddit
My sister and I both had one in the early 80’s. I took the light out of mine and used it as a flashlight.
Mishgrrrl@reddit
I did
Snugglebunny1983@reddit
I had the green one. I wish I still had one. If you still want one, you should get one. I've never understood the point of gendering toys.
evolkitty@reddit
So many toys of my youth had plastic faces. Glow worms, cabbage patch kids, popples, my babies dolls… it was the 80’s man
KnottyCatLady@reddit
I also had the green one. I loved that thing until it didn't glow anymore. As a teen I told my mom she could get rid of it, but as an adult I wish I still had it. Looked online, but the new ones just aren't the same.

Mudcreek47@reddit
My sis had one. I think all sisters did in the 80s.
bananachow@reddit
Still have it!
Jonestown_Juice@reddit (OP)
Does it still glow?
bananachow@reddit
Last time I checked, about 5 years ago, it did. It’s at my parents’ house. I need to ask them lol
Impossible_Turn_7627@reddit
I loved mine. It was a comfort when I was scared of the dark.
mystiqueallie@reddit
I had one. My daughter got one of the newer ones when she was little (it has a plush head with hard face - little alien tentacle ears instead of the cute nightcap.
danita0053@reddit
I hid my money in the back. Perfect spot.
bicycle_bandito@reddit
I got mine when I came down with chicken pox.
KindPainting2961@reddit
Glow worm went on dates with my Barbie
flowbkwrds@reddit
Yes. The strangest thing about glo worms is how many we found in our backyard after the creek there would flood. The creek ran through yards in the neighborhood and would flood with heavy rains. It wasn't uncommon to find basketballs and stuff like that, but glo worms, way more than you would think!
NoOne206@reddit
I only had the Wendy’s toys, I believe those are the same fam? Always wanted the stuffed one but never got it
neon_farts@reddit
They still make em. My kids don’t really hang out with it anymore, but we’ve still got it!
kittibear33@reddit
Are their faces still hard?
neon_farts@reddit
Yup! haha
kittibear33@reddit
Thanks! I’ll hold off on getting one for my kid then. 😂
Thorn_and_Thimble@reddit
I had one. It was like going to bed with a battle mace.
ebzees@reddit
👋🏻
Even-Fan7692@reddit
somehow it’s one of two childhood stuffed animals I have in my closet right now. still works if I put new batteries in it!
Jonestown_Juice@reddit (OP)
I'm seeing several people in the thread saying that they kept theirs. Must have been a lot of people's favorite.
OrangeAugust@reddit
Meeee. I still have some of the small glow bugs
rob132@reddit
Remember an episode from the cartoon where the worm got hit on the head and had amnesia.
I remember as a child thinking" if he can't remember anything, how can you remember how to talk?"
Whatchab@reddit
No, but I wanted one so badly.
Both-Tree@reddit
I thought everyone did
ilikeaffection@reddit
OriginalMSV@reddit
CherryCherry5@reddit
I did.
Munchkin531@reddit
Yes! I had one it was so cute.
When I had my first son I got a similar one but it wasn't quite the same. I think it was a seahorse
Verbull710@reddit
Great weapon to swing at the younger brother, that glowworm face was no joke
Usual-Role-9084@reddit
I loved my Glo Worm. My son is 6 and he’s on his third Glo Worm. Obviously different design but same green-hued body and hard plastic face lol
Jonestown_Juice@reddit (OP)
They still make them?
Sufficient-Penalty40@reddit
They do! They even have a feature where you can make a custom recording that the glow worm will play back while it glows. I just remember mine glowing back in the day.
WrenchNRatchet@reddit
Do they still take C (or D?) cell batteries?
Sufficient-Penalty40@reddit
😂😂😂just double or triple A now
javaper@reddit
I've got mine somewhere still.
Lorrainium@reddit
My cousins had them. I had PJ Sparkles.
Bminions@reddit
Oh shit. Between my wife randomly mentioning Amelia Bedelia books earlier and this post, I'm having some crazy recalled memories today.
sexwiththebabysitter@reddit
We had a couple. Don’t know if something was wrong with mine but I remember I had to squeeze it so hard to get it to light up. My brother’s didn’t have the same issue.
sator-2D-rotas@reddit
Had the glow worm one. And Teddy Ruxpin. Can you tell our parents didn’t want to put us to bed themselves?
SirBobsonDugnutt@reddit
Still got mine. I remember it being really hard to squeeze the light on. At least with my little hands at the time.
Educational-Basil472@reddit
Of course! Then when I had my child I gave them one as well!!
butterbean8686@reddit
My cousin had one. I wanted one so bad! She used to let me hold it until I fell asleep though.
Impossible_Memory_85@reddit
I had one as a boy
Alternative-Light514@reddit
My sister and I had glow worm bed tents that would glow in the dark. She had a glow worm toy, I didn’t.
Alternative-Light514@reddit
These shits. Bedroom camping was pretty fun.
Tangential_Comment@reddit
My pops used to run an injection molding place in the 80s and made the soft head piece. We got a few for free;)
Nancy-Drew-Who@reddit
There’s a picture at my parent’s house of me holding my glow worm while sitting in the front seat of my mom’s Cadillac. I was 3 and my feet didn’t even reach the edge of the seat 🙃
Messijoes18@reddit
I remember watching the movies as a kid and thinking that their lore was way deeper than I thought it was going to be
Ok_Egg_2665@reddit
I had one and I loved it! Its batteries lasted way longer than they had any right to. That thing was so special to me.
StabbyMcStabsauce@reddit
My grandma sewed mine to my dress when I was a toddler moving overseas. Ive still got one from 1982
jamie535535@reddit
I did. I didn’t know they were supposed to be for girls.
ChromeDestiny@reddit
I assumed some were for boys and girls cause they had a green one.
TheRealWatchingFace@reddit
Had him since 82. The light is missing, and baby me ate the hat tassles.
cibolaburns@reddit
I wanted one so badly.
Fun fact if you like fever dream memory satisfaction:
If you used to watch the show as it aired after My Little Pony (in rotation with Pound Puppies and The Potato Head Kids) - the entire 10 episode mini series “The Quest” when the glo friends have to strike out and try and source more moon drops (and stumble across a vulture and her baby…and there’s a big weird wizard toad…) is available on YouTube.
To be able to actually watch it in sequence, to its completion was fantastic. I only had 2-3 episodes on an old vhs and always wondered what the resolution was.
(It had Nancy Cartwright and Russi Taylor credited as voice actors - which I always found so cool).
TheNaughtyDragon@reddit
Did not but wanted one. Found one in excellent shape recently on eBay 😄.
HicJacetMelilla@reddit
This is one of the earliest toys I remember having, and I had it at my grandma’s house. Was super precious to me to snuggle when I stayed with them.
adamcmorrison@reddit
Was it common for boys to have one cause I did
AlienDelarge@reddit

Medellia23@reddit
I did. I saw two at at an antique store on the weekend!!!!
AncientMatter1042@reddit
My cousin did.
PlatypusFreckles@reddit
I loved mine, but was always sad that its face was so hard. I found a mini one at a toy store a few years ago and I treasure it
brotatochip4u@reddit
I could never squeeze it hard enough to light up
nochickflickmoments@reddit
Yes! With its hard face you couldn't cuddle
S_A_R_K@reddit
I thought the green one was for boys. That's what mom said
MushroomAdjacent@reddit
I still have a green one.
ChaoticForkingGood@reddit
Couldn't go to sleep without mine.
Bindlestiff34@reddit
I did. My dad tells a story of me rolling over and activating it, waking up to see it staring at me and just screaming. It didn’t sleep in the crib after that.
