Why do you guys have the same houses everywhere I go?

I travel to the UK often, it has a soft spot in my heart, but I have never understood why are most of your ,,normal people’s” (aka non central rich city) houses all the same, boring/depressing brown or reddish brick, a lot of the times fake brick, and there seem to be so little differences? Also the styles of the houses? I’d understand that certain periods in time are architectonically chatacteristic, but this seems to be the trend even with newly built houses.. It can’t be that your house regulations are so strict? After all, I am seeing that in newly built cities like MK or others, which were built in the 1950’s ish.. Why so depressing, why not a bit - and just a bit - od creativity, difference, colour.. I wouldn’t want the UK to become extravagant either, but my travels through Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, have shown me that cities/towns can be cohesive but with much more freedom in planning the style of your house.. So: 1.) what’s the reason? 2.) isn’t it a bit depressing for you, looking at the same house repeated? Please let me know! ✌️ PS: I’ve been to England, not Scotland, Wales or N.Ireland, so can’t speak about that..
