Yeah bro I was checking the METAR, gust to 43 like two hours ago
pornborn@reddit
That’s in knots, is it not? If so, it’s closer to 50 mph. I’m about 150 miles south and the NWS is reporting 14 mph gusting to 26.
Here’s a cool website to visualize the winds of the entire planet.

Very cool!

You only get a Darwin Award if you take yourself out of the Breeding Pool. Was this a fatal?
fromthevanishingpt@reddit
Yeah, I'm down the road in AZO and it's terrible here today. Not sure why anyone in a taildragger would be trying to go out.
isellJetparts@reddit (OP)
The bulletin from Public Safety says emergency services stayed on scene for a 2nd aircraft, which landed safely after an in-flight issue. So at least two daredevils flying in SW Michigan today.
Haldron-44@reddit
Some people just wanna say FU to mother nature, not realizing she will rip your plane to shreds without a second thought.
Also, fo you really sell jet parts? Like new or used?
RCAF_vet71@reddit
To shreds you say…….
Haldron-44@reddit
I see, and how's his wife holding up?
RCAF_vet71@reddit
To shreds you say…..
Sensitive_Art_2446@reddit
If you look closely, they did in fact say FU, or more precisely FGEW! 😆
isellJetparts@reddit (OP)
Hi, Yes I really do! I work for an OEM now and support a specific aircraft program, both new and repaired parts. Over my entire career I've put parts on everything from ultralights to A380s & C-5s. thanks for asking.
Haldron-44@reddit
Very cool! If I ever get the funds and gumpshion to finally put together an ultralight I'll look ya up 🙂
gratefulflyer@reddit
Does nobody respect the gales of november anymore?
FixergirlAK@reddit
I only just got rid of that earworm.
OptimisticMartian@reddit
Did the emergency crew douse it in foam? Seems a bit much even if it was leaking fuel.
BeefInGR@reddit
Yeah... and that was the nice weather for today. It started picking up by GRR about 5 minutes ago.
the_Q_spice@reddit
Yeah, absolutely nasty winds going on in the Midwest the rest of this week and almost 0 visibility yesterday (heavy fog), and today (snow).
Aside from aircrew issues, we had several flights cancelled due to weather at FedEx, and these are A300s, 767s, and 757s.
I can’t imagine being out there in a plane as light as this one.
Hell, our C208s barely made it out even with no cargo on board.

I'm sorry, but the juxtaposition of this post and the following ad had me laughing

magnumfan89@reddit
It's actually rediculosly windy In Michigan today. It's the first time in years I haven't seen any GA aircraft out. I feel like it could blow a light airplane like a cub right over.
PPGkruzer@reddit
The gusts are insane, I'm hearing them right now as I type, like a train coming through.
Dr_Scout123@reddit
Ouch.
I saw a post on a ferry pilot group yesterday saying this airplane was getting ferried to its new owner. And the flight would be “a real challenge in airmanship this time of year”
Thatgliderpilot@reddit
I think I saw that same post, can’t find it but don’t remember the group I saw it posted in. Thought nice plane, guess not so much anymore.
Dr_Scout123@reddit
Looks like ol boy deleted his post
madredr1@reddit
Yeah I couldn’t find it again either.
Thatgliderpilot@reddit
Not sure that would’ve been my first thought but I guess what do I know I’ve never landed my plane upside down. I’m sure the likely answer is people were commenting on that one already which brought it to his attention.
NoConcentrate9116@reddit
Lmao I saw the same post and thought the plane looked very familiar when I saw this.
madredr1@reddit
Interesting. I saw a post on FB yesterday about someone ferrying a plane that looked like this. Wonder if it’s the same plane. Weird.
jamgar@reddit
Ouch!
avboden@reddit
Ground loop?
Icy-Bar-9712@reddit
50kn winds? Be lucky if it was a singular loop....
FixergirlAK@reddit
Olympic-level tumbling pass?
shrunkenhead041@reddit
More of a cartwheel.
CharlieFoxtrot000@reddit
Not only incredibly strong sustained winds and gusts, but also a 11-16 knot crosswind component:
KBEH 261553Z AUTO 25033G47KT 7SM -SN BKN026 OVC034 02/M02 A2970 RMK AO2 PK WND 25047/1549 UPB03E12RAB21E22SNE03B19 SLP062 P0000 T00171022
Also rain, mixed precip (UP is almost always that) and snow, and I doubt that plane is authorized for FIKI.
While we’re at it - AIRMETs for Icing, IFR, Surface winds, and low level turbulence. There almost couldn’t be a worse time to fly a small airplane.
MikeInPajamas@reddit
"I said, north UP. UP!"
Emotional-Emu1431@reddit
no, benton harbor is in the Lower Peninsula, not until UP
pornborn@reddit
Man, in something that small and light, he could’ve just pointed it into the wind and not need any runway. Darn near VTOL.
-ImYourHuckleberry-@reddit
Pilot here. The problem is that the wheels are in the air and the wings are in the ground. Hope this helps!
ti36xamateur@reddit
You can tell all that from the picture? That's next level.
I'm also playing along. I don't know why but I feel everything I type seems snarky
Eaglepursuit@reddit
It's a homebuilt registered as a RG12 with the owner/builder as the manufacturer. He finished it last year. I'm curious that it flipped on take-off. Pilot hit the brakes by accident or because of a last minute abort?
OracleofFl@reddit
At some point the wind is going to get under the wing on a tail dragger in particular and lift it.
Trytun015@reddit
I’m up near there atm and it’s super windy, low visibility. He probably lifted and got rolled.
Dr__-__Beeper@reddit
I'm in Lansing Michigan, but in that same storm, sure the wind just caught that thing and flipped it right over, I'm sure they had a hell of a ride too.
GGCRX@reddit
I'd say the 50-knot winds might have had something to do with it.

I agree it’s definitely an incident

So lucky they crashed next to that fire truck! Nobody wants to crash, but that's the best place for it to happen.

Taildragger doing taildragger things ....
Praefectus27@reddit
I’m in South Bend about 35 minutes away from BH. No one is flying today save commercial flights. It’s so windy and gusty inland I have no idea what would possess these idiots closer to the lake to even attempt a flight. Glad no one died but they kinda deserve what they got and they’re lucky that was it.
Boromonster@reddit
Reminds me that while Lake Superior will happily kill you and all whom you love, gentle reminder Lake Michigan kills more often.
Its gonna be an interesting read when that NTSB report drops
Imaginary_Storm_4048@reddit
Pfft - I’ve done that in msfs dozens of times

Just spoke with family in Muskegon, 60mph gusts today. Oof
