Luxwana should've been permanent cast member

Since Starfleet is diplomatic, they should've had diplomats on board. Luxwana should've been on board outranking the Captain.

Outranking the captain, that I don't agree with.
But her a regular? Yes please.
Fuzzy_Builder_2153@reddit (OP)
She's Bajor Ambassador to the Federation.
Fuzzy_Builder_2153@reddit (OP)
The captain is just a delivery man to insure the diplomats get to the scene. He is no longer concerned with diplomacy but the mission.
Meatloafxx@reddit
Lwaxana would make a terrible diplomat.
Ironically for someone with telepathy, she's quite dense. Like Lwaxana has zero clue how she annoys Picard and how he actively tries avoiding her, not to mention how she get's in the way of ship's operations. She also does things for her own selfish whims which is more of an antithesis to being a diplomat. Because y'know with such a title, she needs to serve in the best interest of the federation, not herself.

I'll say it again.
No.
GiltPeacock@reddit
Unironically agree, I would love for Federation diplomats and ambassadors to be full time additions. Also she saved an entire conference from Fleetwood Mac’s elaborate explosive fish-robe terrorist scheme when everyone else failed to notice anything even while her telepathy was inhibited, so she is basically more competent than anyone on the ship

The diplomat's role should've been Deanna. Seemed like writers struggled to incorporate Deanna's counseling role which was underwritten throughout. Deanna as a diplomat would've expanded her role and made much more sense in the grand scheme of exploration.
GiltPeacock@reddit
Yeah definitely true. She filled that role a lot anyway and both her and Picard got a lot of stick for a telepathic counselor conspicuously attending negotiations.
Meatloafxx@reddit
Was it Roddenberry that wanted Troi to have telepathic abilities? I always thought it was an unnecessary superpower written into the show and another complex element to incorporate, which writers also struggled with. Just make Deanna a straight arrow ambassador operating on sound logic and instincts.
GiltPeacock@reddit
Definitely agree that would have been way better. Incidentally I just watched Second Skin again the other day and she never uses her abilities in what would have been an extremely advantageous situation for them, but gets by just thinking on her feet and leveraging every bit of influence she has.
Also in the Loss, the other good Troi episode, she basically proves that she’s as good at her job without empathic/telepathic powers.
Fuzzy_Builder_2153@reddit (OP)
More competent than Worthless who was watching them, for a week.
Icarus367@reddit
No.
LadyAtheist@reddit
She was. She was the voice of the computer.
Permanent Ambassadors would be Babylon5. (She'd have been delightful on B5)
Fuzzy_Builder_2153@reddit (OP)
She was! She played Lady Morella of the Centauri.
Slainlion@reddit
No thanks. When I’d see her show up in an episode I’d groan.

"Jean Luc, report to my quarters immediately. Be aware. Clothing is entirely optionaaaaal. Rest of the crew? We'll be deep in, uh, meetings and unavailable. Will, you're captain for the duration."

“Outranking the captain.”
I could see her ignoring a distress call to chase a dude on Rigel VII.

On DS9, maybe. Her chemistry with Odo was electric. TNG? Hell ko

Hell no. She's the most undiplomatic overbearing character. Terrible with peoples boundaries. Why people like her is beyond me.
Spiritual_Ad_5492@reddit
Well that's an unpopular opinion!
Fuzzy_Builder_2153@reddit (OP)
It would be more in the role that Starfleet isn't military.

Majjel Barrett... What's the voice of the ship's computer. She was kind of a permanent cast member, even if not as Lwaxana Troi
StitchedRebellion@reddit
Came to say this. She may even have more credits than daddy, I mean Jeffrey combs.
and1984@reddit
She was also on the TOS playing multiple different roles.
ExcitingLoquat6164@reddit
You’re so right. It should just be her, Barclay, Alexander and early seasons Wesley just roaming the Galaxy.
baintaintit@reddit
do you realize how cool that would be??
RYANSOM666@reddit
They should have fired her out of the torpedo bay at a romulan ship
DCLascelle@reddit
FUCK. THAT.
She should have been on Deep Space Nine.
Obviously.

For a second I thought this was r/shittydaystrom
sqplanetarium@reddit
Then Deanna would quietly pull some strings and get transferred to another ship, byeeee!
agirtzce@reddit
i'd watch that! 🤣
Prime_Vibration@reddit
She's the mother I always wanted. I would have loved her to be a permanent cast member. ♥️
