RTX 3080 replacement: 9070 Vs 5070 Vs 5070 super

I'm am looking for my RTX 3080 10GB replacement for 1440p. To be honest this card still holding up really well. I'm kind of sold on DLSS. Marginal drop of fidelity is totally worth the FPS gains. I can even use Ray Tracing combined with DLSS. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 or BF6 run at 80-100+ FPS at high/ultra (with DLSS quality or balanced). Having that said, 10GB might not be enough for the newest titles and/or even older ones with RT turned on. I started noticing typical issues related with low memory - sudden and big FPS drops, especially entering new locations. So now I started looking for a replacement especially that Black Friday is coming. Initially I though about RX 9070 as it provides significant upgrade to raw performance over 3080 plus 16GB should be more than enough for another 2-3 years (my typical GPU replacement interval). However, I've tried to use AMD FSR and it looks absolute dogshit in comparison to DLSS. Is it any better on the new, dedicated AMD card? Then I was thinking about RTX 5070. I could get it even cheaper than 9070 - price can be about 10% lower. As I said, I see a value in the DLSS and new one is even better than the one used on my current GPU. I also think that frame generation is a huge plus. On the downsides 5070 does have noticeably lower raw performance and it only has 12GB so my issues with memory can come back in the near future. The third option would be wait for 5070 Super, which as far as I know, should have 18GB and performance bumped a notch. Then again I will need to wait another few months plus I believe that new Nvidia GPU won't have any discounts at a release, quite contrary. I'm guessing the prices will be somewhere around 9070 XT tier for at least couple of months. So what do you suggest for 1440p? Raw performance of 9070, save some money and trust DLSS and FG of 5070 as I had a good experience with that and hope that 12GB will still be sufficient in a year or two? Or squeeze out some juice out of 3080 for another couple of months as I generally happy with its performance and wait for 5070 Super? Card will be paired with 5800X3D and 32GB DDR4 3600

So after reading comments and thinking it trough, I'm now inclined to pull a trigger on 9070 XT. It is about 20%- 25% more expensive than 5070 but still way cheaper than 5070 ti And now correct me if I'm wrong: FSR 4 in terms of quality is at least on par with dlss 3. And since I'm using dlss 3 now and I'm happy with it then I should be happy with fsr 4. I've read that AMD plans to release FSR 5 in a few weeks. It should bring quality to dlss 4, no? And while newest fsr implementation (4 and upcoming 5) is/will be not that widespread as dlss still it can be expected that all recent and future major titles should receive appropriate updates to enable the tech. And for the older games that won't have fsr 4 & 5, raw performance increase will not need upscaling anyway. Ray Tracing performance of 9070 XT should not be lower than 5070 which still be a major increase over my 3080?

Honestly just stick with the 3080 until the next generation of AMD/Nvidia at this point. I'm in the same boat as you, and it's not worth upgrading. The 3080 still slaps. It's WAY more powerful than my PS5 and plays all new games with good settings with DLSS Balanced at 1440p. Something like ARC Raiders I have everything cranked to ultra and getting like 110 fps. I'm running an ultrawide, too. I have a 5800X (non 3D), too. I feel like I'd have to upgrade the whole system and I just don't want to drop that much money for a marginal improvement.

Try to mention enough time of Super when posting/replying in r/nvidia and you might get a ban. Especially if they're very **generous with VRAM. RTX 4080 12GB should tell you not to buy an Nvidia GPU

I'm using a 5070 for 1440p and 4K atm and it's working very well. Does all I need for my entire Steam library. It's a modest upgrade from a 3080 in performance and power efficiency, while also having much better RT performance as well (and 4x frame-gen). There's a lot of talk about VRAM in games but I really think it's not a big deal if you adjust settings a bit (more so at 4K), and Nvidia is improving texture compression and VRAM use over time: [Nvidia's Neural Textures Are a VRAM Game Changer | Extremetech](https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/nvidias-neural-textures-are-a-vram-game-changer) In basically all of my games at 1440p I'm yet to find one that is a concern for VRAM, the vast majority of them are well under 8GB still.

People already mentioned the super situation, so I’ll leave it at that. 9070 though is superior to the 5070, even when you factor in the features. Raw performance and additional 4gb vram is worth it. Plus, FSR4 has caught up a lot and if you see some Project Redstone overview videos, it’s pretty impressive what’s to come. That said 5070 I think is a good product. It’ll do well at 1440 and even at 12gb, should still be good. I do find some of the 12 vs 16gb issues overblown since I think the platform, or GPU itself will feel slower before memory is a discussion. However, 10%? I’d get the 9070 easy.

At this point, 5070 Super is probably just a dream, at the very best it's delayed to late 2026. If you really noticed the bad quality of FSR, then the 5070 would be the only choice tbh

It cost basically 50% more than regular 5070. And I had some major expenses this year and another major expenses upcoming, I just can't afford to pay such difference.

I mean the 5070 super will be more expensive. But in that case, definitely get the 5070. For 1440, that’s really your best bet if you don’t want AMD (I’m with you on this, market share unfortunately is huge when it comes to tech).

ah okay, then that would be FSR3, the 9070 has support for FSR4, quality-wise it is somewhere between DLSS3 and 4. So not as good as nvidia yet, but way better than the old FSR. Going 9070 means losing DLSS, but gaining a bit more raw performance means instead using DLSS/FSR performance, you can up it to quality, or even native. 4GB extra VRAM is also nice. But yeah you lose DLSS and RTX goodies, if that's important to you, you have to decide if the price is worth it.

The friends I have with AMD cards don't complain about FSR. But the 10% discount on a 5070 might be worth looking into. I own a 5070 myself and am very happy with it.

A 9070 and 5070 are just too small of an upgrade to be worthwhile. A 5070 Super is a total unknown, it may never materialise.

First of all, super cards will be delayed, if they even come out. Samsung did start mass production of 24gb aka 3 gb chips, but memory prices are crazy right now and keep going up becauseof AI servers being built. I would pick 9070xt for $600 if I was you, or surcharge for 5070ti which is what I have, and you will be able to max out your display with raytracing... FSR4 on 9070 series cards provides much better quality and is very little behind dlss 4. Much better than previous versions...

If you take the resell value of the 3080 into account you can probably get the upgrade pretty cheaply. I'd get the 9070 personally. You can likely forget about the supers for now, at least at competitive prices.

The 9070 has acces to fsr 4.0, which is a lot better than previous versions. Still behind dlss tho. However the 9070 has more vram and is just faster overal.

5070 and 9070 would only be a like 20-30% faster than the 3080. I wouldn't upgrade to anything less than a 9070xt or 5070ti to atleast get a 50% boost.

I also have the 3080 10GB bought in 2021, and I am also looking to upgrade as I e started playing a lot of story games in 4K, it's still great for 1440p for sure but yeah, a little outdated for 2025. After doing research, the cards you've listed simply don't add enough of an improvement imo, the only cards that give me a good enough improvement is 5070 TI and 9070 XT. I've decided to wait for the Super Nvidia cards to come out before deciding, as the 5070 TI Super may have around 20GB VRAM. Also, FSR has greatly improved on the 9070 XT, a friend of mine has it and FSR looks identical to DLSS imo, my friend even claims after a while that it looks better.

I guess you didn't get the memo yet: The Super series are now in a limbo, latest rumor is due to the RAM shortage, they are now delayed with no known date of release + RAM shortage will probably mean if they are actually released, they will be significantly more expensive. So it's between 5070 and 9070. For 1440p gaming, I'd consider 9070 more as 16 GB VRAM will last longer than 12 GB will, if you want to keep your GPU for as long as possible, Also, FSR being dogshit is a thing of the past -- FSR4 on 9000 series are now better than DLSS3, just a little behind (almost indiscernible) vs DLSS4. You can also use Optiscaler to inject FSR4 into games that don't natively support FSR4. FSR4 will also get ML-based frame generation this month (AFMF works a bit differently, upcoming update is more in line with nVidia's frame gen tech).

9070XT or 5070Ti 5070 Super likely wont be happening. Atleast not within a time where it's reasonable and it wont be affordable.
