Those of you who played the OG Nintendo and Sega games, did you pick the skinny, quick character, the thick, strong character or the good-looking, character? And who are you today?

In Ice Hockey, you didn't need to choose one.
CokBlockinWinger@reddit
Always the girls… always
Prudent-Lake1276@reddit
Same. Took me until my late 30s to realize / admit to myself that I was trans 😂
moonbunnychan@reddit
I always picked the one token girl character because I'm female.
Informal_Border8581@reddit
Yeah, I was Chun Li for life!
StatementLazy1797@reddit
Who would win in a fight- Chun Li or Sonya Blade?
Informal_Border8581@reddit
Who is Sonya Blade?
StatementLazy1797@reddit
Mortal Kombat’s one token girl!
Informal_Border8581@reddit
Oh okay, I never played MK. It's a cool name though!
hamburgler26@reddit
Skinny quick all the way. Nobody could defeat my all skinny NES Ice Hockey team.
fermentedradical@reddit
4 skinnies and 1 fat was unbeatable
Stardustquarks@reddit
Just let the fat guy wind up on his slap shot and the entire other team bounced off him
HPPTC@reddit
3 skinny+1 fat. There were four skaters a side.
fermentedradical@reddit
Right!

When people say “you can’t go home” this is what they mean.
This was one of the last milestones of my childhood.
Wish I could play it again…purely
StatementLazy1797@reddit
Now? Speed, agility, evasion ect all the way. Back then? Whoever I thought was the cutest.
Zelengro@reddit
My sister and I used to fight in real life over who got to fight as Dhalsim until dad banned either of us from being allowed to select him. It was mostly because Dhalsim could kick your a from across the screen, until we learned Ryu could throw fireballs so that started a standoff with both of us just standing at the furthest edges of the arena mashing buttons until we found the combo for long a distance attack.
We’re the best of friends now.
StatementLazy1797@reddit
Lmao I just responded on another comment that Dhalsim was banned in my household. I wonder how many of us there were.
Cloud_Disconnected@reddit
Do I want to win? Chun Li. Do I want a challenge? Zangief.
Do I want to make my opponent feel like shit? Dhalsim.
StatementLazy1797@reddit
Dhalsim was banned in my household.
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
I always picked Dhalsim. He was the only one I could win with without knowing very many special moves.
gooch_norris_@reddit
Skinny and slow!

All three: Lost Vikings!
AshDogBucket@reddit
I am the younger of 2 siblings so I was always Luigi.
Funny thing: my spouse was the same.
When we play Mario kart he's embraced Waluigi and I am Luigi.
2099AD@reddit
I never body-shamed my video game characters. I just went with who the animators had the most fun with.
Dog_Baseball@reddit
Ok so yoshi had the best acceleration, and toad had the best traction, but neither were super fast. If you wanted the best top speed donkey kong was your guy, but you'd sacrifice cornering and maneuverability as well as acceleration. If you wanted the all around balanced player, you gotta go with the main man himself, mario.
FormidableMistress@reddit
I agree. Mario was my guy in most games and situations, with the exception of Super Smash Bros, then I fucked shit up with Luigi. I had it for the Game Cube and my bf at the time seemed particularly butt hurt about me beating him every time with Luigi.
Dog_Baseball@reddit
I played cart on N64. I was die hard Yoshi. Even in battle rounds. I didn't win all the time, but i held my own against some serious gamers.
Nowadays on the switch when i play with my kid there are so many options. Its crazy. But whatever i pick, I still completely destroy him. And his little sister. No mercy. I do at least let them pick the track they'll be losing on.
Mudcreek47@reddit
Always got Toad on Super Mario 2 except for the ice levels, and then it was the Princess
GarminTamzarian@reddit
Toad could speed-pull those coins out of the ground, allowing you to maximize the number of slot machine tries in order to get those all-important extra lives. Assuming you took care when placing the doors.
bikeonychus@reddit
Always the teeniest tiniest character - in Nintendo games, always a mushroom.
Secret_Elevator17@reddit
Link!
Raymondb83@reddit
I always played the big guys, Zangief in Street fighter, Sabrewulf in Killer Instinct, Haggard in Final Fight and so on... in real life, a normal/sporty figure
DontBuyAHorse@reddit
I'm the thick, strong, good looking character today.
But I usually picked the more balanced ones, who were typically the handsome guy. Though I picked Blaze in Streets of Rage. She was awesome.

Max Thunder all day
LookParty5244@reddit
As a girl I was always Blaze, totally natural to fight crime in a tube top and mini skirt!
ChiefSampson@reddit
Can't remember that far back!
GalaxyRedRanger@reddit
I picked the red character, unless my brother stole the controller, then I was the green character.

yaykat@reddit
I picked the girl, always
kl1n60n3mp0r3r@reddit
I’ve always been thick and strong. 💪
Corn_Beefies@reddit
The hedgehog ass mother fucker
Informal_Border8581@reddit
Depends on the game.
Lord-Sinestro@reddit
Speed fighter to this day in every game. Fighters, open world, even Lies of P I pick speed over heavy hitter. If no one has tried it by the way, the kusarigama in Ghost of Yotei is 🤌🤌🤌so quick and so vicious.
Sharpshooter188@reddit
Skinny quick. Final Fight I was always Guy or Cody. When I played SF2 it was always Chun Li.
RylosAU@reddit
Swapped between skinny or the big boys: either Max or Skate in Streets of Rage 2 and Haggar or Guy in Final Fight. Would be similar choices for any other beat 'em ups.
MOSbangtan@reddit
Wut. I was Sonic, Ariel, and Echo?
RushBubbly6955@reddit
I picked the one who was the fastest.
481126@reddit
Once Princess came along with her floaty dress I haven't looked back.
ScroatusMalotus@reddit
Picked the good looking ones back then. Now, skinny and quick all day.
TheVexingRose@reddit
I played Sonic The Hedgehog. There wasn't really an option in that.
Zeke688@reddit
Ryu, Scorpion, Michelangelo, Sonics for NBA Jam.
eat_like_snake@reddit
Range / crowd control.
If that isn't an option, skinny / fast.
Complex_Priority4983@reddit
The skinny quick character…still the skinny quick character 🤷🏻♀️
infinitentendre@reddit
Big irl but always speed in gaming. Movement and expression are key to longevity
theglatmachine@reddit
If it was a fighting/beat em up game, I'd go for the stronger char. If it was a sports game it was always the speedier character.
