What makes a car guy a car guy?

I agree. I can change my oil and brakes and shit like that, but I couldn’t build an engine, nor do I have the desire to crawl under my car to do basic shit like changing exhaust or headers. Maybe it’s just because I hate being under cars or working on them in the cold; perhaps If I had a lift in a heated garage I’d be more enthusiastic to do that kind of stuff, but I am by no means a mechanic. I do have encyclopedic knowledge of certain cars and engines, and I do love sports cars but mostly, I think it’s about driving the cars, for me atleast. Maybe I’m a driving enthusiast? I don’t know, don’t really care too much, and I don’t think a label makes any difference. It’s not that important, you like what you like. Just reminds me of the people who say they sold their 350z/wrx/328i/etc because “the community” gives them or the car a “bad look”. Okay?? Are you doing those kinds of activities too? Because you don’t have to label yourself in with them, and the vast majority of people (90%??) don’t actually notice or care what you drive, especially if you don’t drive like an idiot.
