Got my first Solo coming up. How memorable will it be? Should I get the meta raybans?

I know that yes you'll never forget your first solo.
Im 18 years old wanting to be a Airline pilot here in the uk.
I was thinking of getting the meta glasses to record and capture my first ever solo.
What do you guys think of this? And can you give me more of an insight to my first Solo?
Thank you

It's a once in a lifetime experience, focus on experiencing it and don't focus on recording it.

Yeah i get what you mean ill enjoy the experience as much as I can. But I would love some footage so in the future look back at it
babyp6969@reddit
Best case, you have boring as hell footage you never watch again. Worst case, you have evidence of you messing up really bad.
In my 20s, I went out of my way to get cockpit footage of me flying fighter jets. Haven’t looked at it since. I promise your Cessna solo isn’t worth the hassle.
Eggbert-Ad4102@reddit
Aww I'm sure your future kids would love to see a video of their mom/pop flying a fighter jet

All you have to do is click a button once. It wouldn’t really take away from your focus.

Unless they've changed, the Meta glasses will only record up to 3 minutes of video at a time.
So, unless you need a new pair of sunglasses you might want to see if you can find a GoPro or other action camera and get a head strap for it or something which will have much the same effect.
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
So the meta glasses can they just not record 3 minute video after 3 minute video? Like continuously until I have like 5 three minute videos of the whole Solo?
This was my only concern?
Gopro wouldn't be a bad idea aswell
gazchap@reddit
You can restart the record every 3 minutes, yeah. But that requires action on your part and you may have your hands and head full flying the plane!
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Damn yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. Is there not a way of it automatically recording another video?
gazchap@reddit
I don't think so but I can't be 100% sure.
SumOfKyle@reddit
Negative, gotta hit the button every 3 minutes. Plus it’s impossible to hear the little sound the glasses make to let ya know when the recording stops. I can’t hear it at all over the sound of an engine and wind.
I try to take multiple clips but always end up distracted by the actual flying and forget to record lol
TeaAndTalks@reddit
I can just imagine the accident report.
"Student pilot on first solo, crashed because he was fiddling with his glasses. The last thing heard in the cockpit was "Fucking glasses... OH SHIT!"
End of recording.
SumOfKyle@reddit
You should focus on flying the airplane and not dying. Finish the rating then worry about filming it!

Jeez, I have to really think back, and even then maybe only remember snippets. Was a loooooong time ago!

Forget the raybans. Just experience it.

Just fly the airplane. I remember my first solo, mostly my instructor because him and my roommate stall/spun the plane I soloed in a few days later. I don’t even have the t-shirt back they cut off.
QuickConverse730@reddit
Uhhh, like stall/spun..... in?
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Ha nice

As an instructor, I'd likely not endorse someone to solo if I knew they were going to be filming it, regardless of how much or how little needed to be done with the camera during flight. Even knowing you're being recorded can change the mindset of a student beyond the parameters of what they've been training for. Just don't do it.
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Right got you. I'll take this in mind
Original-Fig4214@reddit
Ray ban aviators for that classic look. 🕶️
DarkriderUWC@reddit
Extremely memorable.
You'll do a few touch and gos with your instructor to make sure you're not having an off day. Once they're happy, you'll be told to land and taxi either to your flight school, or to somewhere in the apron where the instructor can observe you from the ground. If you're at a towered airport, ATC will be told "student conducting first solo". And then, you're on your own.
The aircraft will climb a little faster being one body lighter but focus on flying the plane as you've been taught and you'll be fine.
Once back on the ground, you'll likely be congratulated by ATC during your taxi back to parking.
Enjoy it, this is the first major milestone in your aviation career and you will remember every second of it til the day you die.

Yes exactly this^, in my experience atc didn’t congratulate me when shutting down :(
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Haha yeah thanks alot for the insight man. Looking forward to it
Outtheregator@reddit
It will be a boring video. Sorry to be a let down. Worry about flying, not videoing it.
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Doesn't rlly need to be an exciting video but maybe a very memorable type of kinda video
BugHistorical3@reddit
My solo was a surprise. Showed up for a regular circuit. Did two with my CFI. By the third one as we were taxiing he said "alright, you're going alone now." Picked his headset and gave me a fist bump and made me do one solo.
Don't worry about recording it, take in the feeling in the moment. You'll take a picture once you land.
I still remember every single detail of that flight from weather, to the COMMs I head over the radio, everything.
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Haha yeah i heard from alot of students it'll just be a normal lesson on circuits and then all of a sudden my instructor will just say, right time for your solo.
I know I would definitely enjoy the experience, but I definitely would also love to get footage to look back at
Ok-Organization-3048@reddit
Could be cool to have a recording so you could show your family/ kids one day
Sad-Jicama-5532@reddit (OP)
Yeah i would love looking back at the recording
