Why do different schools have different coloured uniforms?

I’ve never actually understood, and this question just popped into my head. I’m assuming it’s something to do with the area you go to school? There’s burgundy/red, green, yellow, and blue uniforms, right? I went to like, 4 different primary schools and 3 secondary schools, so I had lots of different colours of uniform to wear.

Others have mentioned school trips/lost children In inter-school sport competition it identifies your team. If kids are misbehaving on the way to and from school then people know who to call to complain.

My primary school shared grounds with an RC school and the rivalry was strong. We were red and black, they were blue and yellow. I might forget a lot of things but I will never forget those colours.

Yeah. I went to an RC school and the fights between the School up the road were absolutely *brutal* for a bunch of 5-11 year olds. I think I witnessed more first-hand violence in primary school than I have at any other point in my life.

That makes a lot of sense. The schools with red uniforms must be the strongest. It’s either that, or the red just makes the blood less noticeable. 🤣

Because they're different schools. Its also pretty handy for school trips when other schools are going to the same place for kids to find their group easier and teachers keep track of everyone.

I also had a thought about this… but I can’t help but think about places a lot of schools go to, like museums and stuff, in London, say. Aren’t there multiple groups of school kids in the same colour uniform, but from different schools?

Part of the point of uniforms is to easily identify which school kids belong to. If a kid goes missing, people can be told what colours to look for, making it much easier to search and identify quickly. If they all dressed the same, that would be lost.

Jfc why do I ask anything on Reddit 🤦‍♀️ I know they’re different schools!!! I’m not thick. But what’s the deal with the colours recurring up and down England in particular? Is it a zonal thing? Is it a north, east, west, south thing? You just totally ignored my question, and you were also super rude about it.

Big point of school uniforms is to identify children that go to the school. Can't very well do it if every school wears the same uniform.
