I bought one for my son and one for my nephew.

I still have mine too, though it's nowhere near as faded. I somehow convinced my mom to buy it for me from a museum gift shop (no idea why it was sold there, lol).

Klutz toys were ‘smart kid’ toys. lol
hambergeisha@reddit
That looks fun! So did you use it like a softball?
Spartan04@reddit
The "official" way to through it was to swing it in a vertical circle by the tail and then release to launch it upwards. There were points assigned to each color band for catching it with your hand in that band on the tail. Of course you could make up plenty of games with it too.

I spent soooo many hours of my youth playing with this thing and I am only just now hearing that there was an official way you were supposed to play with it.
This is like when I found out dominos weren't really meant for the thing we all did with dominos.

Born in 80s and I've never seen this before. Feel like I missed out on something
AshDogBucket@reddit
Omggggg never really figured out what we were supposed to do with it but we had one!!!
Szeth_Vallano@reddit
I've still got mine as well. I always take it with me anytime I am going to a beach.
Electronic-Bake-4381@reddit
We had a pair of those for camping.

My classmates in elementary school and I would play football during recess, but we would use a foxtail as the ball. It always made for pretty wild games.
Seattle_Lucky@reddit
Still got mine too!
Channelten@reddit
First week of having mine it got stuck on the basically the tallest roof at my school. I died a little inside that day.
docwatsyn@reddit
Anyone wanna play 500?
jordosmodernlife@reddit (OP)
Exactly!!!
OnePingOnlyVasili@reddit
Ha! My son just found his again, and he is carrying on the tradition of spinning it around by the tail to try to kill or break something!
electric__fetus@reddit
I bet mine’s in my parents garage somewhere
TRGBFAN@reddit
I had so much fun with mine!!!
idahopasture@reddit
I still have mine too!!! I can get that thing in orbit now. Kids love it. Crazy to think I’ve had it 30 years.
TheFoxandTheSandor@reddit
We had the bootleg version called a Schmerltz, where you put a ball in a sock and tie a knot and throw it around
DeliciousMoments@reddit
These and Devil sticks were staples at city parks
Radwood-Original74@reddit
It wasn’t stuck on the roof?Â
