Not only was this a good sci fi show, but it was ahead of it's time in diversity and representation.

That little "Ziggy" handheld computer that Al uses also looks very familiar now.

Its funny to think back about some of these episodic shows, and how you can just drop off watching them at some point and forget about them. I loved this show but I honestly didn't think about it until recently when I watched a Youtube mini-documentary about it, and how it ended.

The evil leaper episodes were my favorite
misterlakatos@reddit
I used to watch it all the time with my parents on Wednesday nights (same night as Unsolved Mysteries).
TransportationOk657@reddit
I can hear it now in my mind, the eerie music from Unsolved Mysteries!
misterlakatos@reddit
Absolutely! The closing title was just as creepy.

The diversity thing was probably because one of the co-creators and showrunners was a black woman, Deborah Pratt. She wrote a lot of the episodes where Sam deals with racism or the Watts riots and stuff, so it always felt very authentic.
She also co-starred in an episode and was the voice of Ziggy the computer and did the iconic intro narration.

That's an awesome fact, I really like the episodes where Sam leaps into a woman or person of color that shed light on their struggles with inequality.

The episodes where he leaps into his younger self absolutely destroy me every time. Magnificent show.
DarwinGoneWild@reddit
“The Leap Home.” Yeah, that was a great one.
Another one I really loved was “M.I.A.”, where Al tries to help Sam prevent a woman from falling in love with another man while her husband is missing in Vietnam even though fate keeps bringing them together. And then you find out at the end it was Al’s ex-wife all along and that’s why he was so desperate to stop her. Turns out Sam was there for something entirely unrelated.

I love it. Was the reason I cancelled my Netflix and went full pirate for a while back in about 2010 though.. they didn’t have the highest rated episodes, including the finale.
_Project__X__@reddit
haha same here, they kinda blend together in my mind
StickDroid2178@reddit
Still my favorite show. Always bothered me that he never made it home.
cellrdoor2@reddit
Same. I just tried to tell my 12 year old about the show and almost teared up.
snow1868@reddit
Great show.

Omg was just talking about this with a friend yesterday! I was commenting on how fun/entertaining AND educational it was too. I was always surprised more middle and high school English and History teachers didn't use it in their curriculum when teaching about certain eras.
SameSpecialist8284@reddit
Loved it. And the theme tune.
unbalancedcentrifuge@reddit
It is a good one....but when I play it in my head, it turns into the MacGyver theme song.
papagoulash_@reddit
Man I did the exact same thing in my head while trying to remember the theme.
Kugelfischer_47@reddit (OP)
The theme is so catchy

One of my favorite shows. I used to tape them all the time. I bet I still have a copy of the finale on VHS somewhere.
lessthanpi79@reddit
I'm still mildly freaked out by the Stephen King episode. Just wish the finale had been a bit better.
whyneedaname77@reddit
I don't think they were sure if it was a last episode or not. I think I read something that they made it so it could be the last episode or continue.
lessthanpi79@reddit
Nah. Last one was the weird bar where he was his adult self on the day he was born. Then it just kinda ends.
whyneedaname77@reddit
I know. I think that's because they weren't sure if it was being renewed. Thats why so strange.
SameSpecialist8284@reddit
Is the new version any good?
Metzger4Sheriff@reddit
I loved the original and liked the reboot. In the reboot, we also see what is happening in the leaper's timeline as his colleagues' try to help him, and that adds a more complicated running plot line which you may or may not enjoy. Word of warning, though: imo the show was just starting to really hit its stride when it got cancelled, and unfortunately ends on a pretty big cliff hanger. I'm still pretty bummed we don't get to see how the show was going to play out from there.
JFull0305@reddit
I personally didn't mind it and watched all of it. It wasn't as good as the original, but I didn't think it was horrible either. I say watch it and make your own opinion of it.
Kugelfischer_47@reddit (OP)
Yeah, the original is where it's at.
Funkopedia@reddit
I've only seen like a few episodes. But it has the modern show problem where the background plot eclipses the weekly plot. That is, over half the episode was about the drama of the leaper and his crew rather than whatever time he leapt into (and it seems he overwhelmingly ends up in times related to his own life or his wife's or somebody else on the team).
digitaljestin@reddit
Been watching it with my kids. They love it, and it's good, but I just wish I were watching Sam and Al.

Oh boy!
