They are so cool…. The sound they give off is music to my ears… that deep bass 😱😍

Couple questions from someone not very aircraft savvy.
Why do they seem to take so long to take off? Surely most checks are done before the engines are on and from there its making sure passengers/load secure?
Why with so many clips of chinooks do they fly with the back open? Wouldn't it be better to have it closed? I can only imagine what the wind would be like going in
BattlingGravity@reddit
Being slow and deliberate is in our nature. The video starts with the engines idling. They then have to be advanced to flight power, when you see the rotors speed up. At that point, there are still checks to perform to ensure the engines are operating correctly and all the communication, navigation, and other aircraft systems are configured for flight. All those things add up.
Even when everything is ready to go in the aircraft, ATC or some other organization you’re coordinating with might not be ready for you to be in the air.
As for the ramp- because it’s cool to fly with the ramp open.

Damn right!
Imaginary_Storm_4048@reddit
And to be fair, they went from rotors not even turning to take-off in under 4 minutes.
receuitOP@reddit
I didn't realise how long these things took, thanks for the answers

if you owned a car with a sunroof wouldn't you drive around with it open during nice weather?
receuitOP@reddit
Fair point, never thought of it that way

Wait I thought we stopped caring about other countries??

That's what fills would like you to think.

That's the Chinook. Always a head turner here in the UK despite them being somewhat common (for military use).
gazchap@reddit
Judging by the crowds that arrived to watch when two air ambulances landed near my house the other week, any helo is a head turner over here in the UK 😆
Kunosion@reddit
That TikTok voice is annoying as fuck
CaptainRedPants@reddit
The food helicopter.
Fuck me.
Zakluor@reddit
I accidentally had my volume on. What a terrible time we live in with all these digitized voice overs.

Boeing Vertol CH-47 Chinook 😉

Thanks, I’ll have a look…
GITS75@reddit
You're welcome. From the ground CH-47 Chinook could be misidentified as CH-46 Sea Knight.. (But not sure those are still in active with the Corps)
makatakz@reddit
All retired, including the HH-46 SAR helos at the air stations.

Haha, not for about 40 years now.

Funny. Jamaica didn't send supplies here after our hurricanes.
robo-dragon@reddit
We had these fly over my house when I was a kid (I believe they were in town for an air show). My dad called them “flying bananas” because of their shape and that’s what I’ve been calling them since.
Love Chinooks! They have an unmistakable sound!

The caption on the first frame made me think "The food helicopters..." was spray-painted onto the helicopter. 😂
