When actors had real teeth...

I don't ever remember thinking that my teeth weren't white enough as a kid, like I do now. Case-in-point: Dianne Keaton classic, Baby Boom from 1987.
lounging_marmot@reddit
This why I watch British tv. The actors still look like people. USA tv has actors that have been sanded, scrapped, buffed, injected, and veneered to the point they look like demons.
austex99@reddit
I saw Keira Knightley the other day and was so struck by the fact that all the parts of her face move. It was really surprising, since you see that so rarely in actors of any age nowadays—and entirely refreshing. It made my opinion of her go up a lot.

This guy from Trivago:
VanGroteKlasse@reddit
Klopp is in a Trivago commercial? Is it only in Germany?
CookieBarfspringer@reddit
No, I’m in the US and I get it occasionally. It’s a weird one. And I’m not sure a ton of Americans know him by sight.
austex99@reddit
I had to google “trivago guy huge teeth” to find out. Trivago sure loves using slightly off-putting guys in their ads. But it is memorable, I guess.

ChimpBrisket@reddit
I love how Liverpool FC’s best manager in a generation is now just known as Trivago teeth guy. I also can’t fathom why a man who can comfortably afford the best dentistry in the galaxy would willingly install veneers that look like Chiclets.
JoyfullyMortified43@reddit
Yes! My husband and I say, "Oh man chompers is on TV again". Lol!
Psychological_Cow956@reddit
That’s Jurgen Klopp one of the greatest football/soccer coaches.
Canadatron@reddit
OK. Still has turkey teeth.
Psychological_Cow956@reddit
Yup. Just adding context as I felt he was a little more deserving than funny teeth guy from trivago
Jurgen chiclet teeth Klopp is much better.
kissassforliving@reddit
Pretty sure that is Tim Williams. They are doppelgangers.
I few sites claim it is Klopp but when I have looked at search and AI it says it is Willaims.
dvjax@reddit
Tim Williams has been in may Trivago ads in the past, but this is definitely a photo of Jurgen Klopp:
https://ir.trivago.com/news-releases/news-release-details/trivago-welcomes-global-icon-jurgen-klopp-brand-ambassador-new
And personally, after years of watching Klopp on the sidelines of BD and Liverpool, I’m not sure I see the two as resembling one another but I’m probably biased.
kaytay3000@reddit
You’d think he could afford better veneers then.

Takes me out of it every time. Like "I'm just poor white trash without a penny to my name." Or "I live in the 1700s" and their teeth look like this

___cats___@reddit
Not to get too /r/okbuddychicanery on you, but I’m not sure they ever really led you to believe he was a full on meth head. Hank calls him that as an insult and Walt calls him that in anger, but all they ever show is they he dabbled in usage but it didn’t really totally control his life like you see with some other side characters like Wendy or Spooge/the Skank.

I think it’s even worse on reality tv shows than in movies today. I had “Selling the OC” on in the background the other day (heard of the show but hadn’t watched before) and after a while I had to turn it off. Everyone on the show, even men and women in their early 20s, have those veneers with the refrigerator-white teeth, plus too much unnecessary botox and fillers. I don’t like that this is the modern standard of beauty.

Honestly, that why I like watching films from the 80s/90s and earlier. People looked REAL. If in the 80s, with the overdone makeup and hair, they still looked like real people.
SendInYourSkeleton@reddit
Except in movies from the 70s, where so many actors looked like they were dying of some kind of tapeworm and a lack of bathing.

Even that is more relatable than the perfect people they have on films now. You've never had a rough day and looked like shit? Lol

I just prefer real teeth. When you see too many stunning beautiful people with perfect veneers, it can take you out of the movie/show entirely. If it's a plot revolving around Hollywood or models, that's fine, but when I'm supposed to believe you're all working in a coal mine? Come on.
trustme1maDR@reddit (OP)
My friend got braces and...sigh. She had a crooked tooth, but I thought it gave her the cutest smile. Everyone can do what they want with their own bodies, it just made me a little sad.

blacktrufflesheep@reddit
Steve Buschemi has refused offers from dentists to get his teeth fixed, owing his success as an actor to his crooked smile.
Alt-acct123@reddit
A dentist once told me that longer teeth look more feminine and he could fix mine (I guess with veneers, not sure). Even at age 19 or so that didn’t phase me because I objectively don’t have short teeth lol. If he had pointed out any other flaw on my teeth though, I probably would have wanted it fixed at that age.
Lulu_42@reddit
I'm right there with you. A friend of mine had a nose job and I thought her nose was genuinely beautiful. Now she looks a bit like everyone else. It's hard to love ourselves for our imperfections, so I understand it, but it's a shame when we erase the little things that make us unique.

It’s something I notice right away. I’m always checking out peoples teeth.
imhungry4321@reddit
Did you have braces and/or do you have nice teeth?
I'm like you with noticing people's teeth immediately. I think it's because I had braces and have straight teeth.
fidgetypenguin123@reddit
Not the same person but I grew up with overcrowded/crooked teeth and always noticed teeth because I felt bad I couldn't have ones like they had.
Even then people were getting caps and expensive work done on their teeth (not as bad as now but still) but I had no idea as a kid, just thought they were lucky to have naturally nice teeth and I wasn't. I didn't get braces until I was an adult and notice teeth less because it's not a problem for me anymore.
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
I didn’t need braces growing up but I’d often have nightmares of my teeth falling out (which apparently isn’t uncommon). So it just became something I’d focus on especially when I was in the dating world. Teeth could be a deal breaker. Of course I’d never tell anyone that.
Comfortable_Tale9722@reddit
This is why I like to watch European shows bc they embrace their imperfections and not everyone looks the same. Some of these veneers today look like horse teeth.
NinoNino3@reddit
OP\~ Diane actually had her teeth done (slightly) I think a few were capped. Check her out in Play It Again Sam- she had not had her teeth done yet (And its a great little film that I had not seen until a week ago)

Ah, interesting! Apparently the dentist was concerned with them looking like real teeth!
cellrdoor2@reddit
I have veneers because I lost a front tooth to a work accident and specifically asked the dentist to make the new ones look real. They even put in the calcification spots I have on my other teeth. Seems like Hollywood wants the fake all white look because the technology to make them look imperfect and real is easily available.
NinoNino3@reddit
Exactly. Back then there were only caps- Almost every actor had their teeth capped- I think bonding came slightly later? Her were definitely capped and looked great

Everyone is also shredded now.
PeterPunksNip@reddit
Honestly, I can't suspend my disbelief to enter into the story of an American movie anymore, in part because of this. The other part being the uncanny botoxed faces of most actresses.
I now watch only indie movies, YouTube shorts, UK or European movies to find that veracity again. Actors and actresses that look like regular Joe and Jane are crucial for immersion in a story!

I've been re-watching Star Trek TOS lately, and one of the first things I noticed (which I had never noticed before, and found I really appreciate) is that they all have real teeth.
