Bean and cheese burrito after losing my paycheck

Canned beans, cheddar, soft flour tortilla. Combine, heat, serve, eat.

Would recommend dried beans prep'd with an Instant Pot. Basically the same, but substantially cheaper.
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
But way more time foolimg with dried beans imho. Assuming the instant pot is like a covered pot but with integrated heat and pressure controls, right? How fast does instant pot go from dried.bean to fork tender edible?
Nyyrazzilyss@reddit
Depending on type of bean. Unsoaked black dried are about 25min.
canolafly@reddit
I was like 😮 what am I doing wrong with my pintos that take 3-4 hrs to cook!
Nyyrazzilyss@reddit
Are you using a pressure cooker or a crockpot? It makes a huge difference
canolafly@reddit
I used to always make them on the stove, but recently got a crockpot so I didn't have to check on them so often. Have not yet used said crockpot.
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Same here. I want an instant pot now!
Griffithead@reddit
You have all the time in the world now. Learn to cook!
Spices are the best way to make cheap food taste awesome.
sara_remi@reddit
I love those!
Breadstix009@reddit
What does it mean to lose a paycheck?
1-800-ASS-DICK@reddit
I'd at least mash the beans up with a spoon or some... But I get it, you lose a paycheck for whatever reason and you might not be in the mood.
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Want some?
erminefurs@reddit
I do!!
erminefurs@reddit
Beans and cheese hits every time
Czechs_Mix_@reddit
Hey dude, I eat something real similar! Its easily better if you make a few technique changes: mash beans into refried bean paste, add spices like salt, cumin, chili powder, etc, and smear onto the tortilla. Pan fry like a quesadilla with cheese, add sauce and lettuce for fiber. Enjoy your beans!
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
I will plan on it thanks!
stigstug@reddit
Did you do anything to the beans? I do this anytime I want tasty black beans
redclawotter@reddit
Black beans are awesome. I bet this tasted pretty good
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Almost

Bruh, a whole bundle of cilantro is like $3 at the store. You'd have to be struggling really hard to have to miss it.
xrockangelx@reddit
I think everyone else took care of the shaming and downvoting sufficiently well, so I just wanna ask: Where do you live that a bundle of cilantro is $3? Most things are expensive where I live in California, but I guess we're lucky in that cilantro is typically only, like, $.79/bundle. Seldom more than a dollar.
canolafly@reddit
California produce 😠so cheap and so good. I miss the amount of citrus variety most.
canolafly@reddit
$3?!? It's like 78 cents in my part of the US.
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
True except i live in the rainforest/jungle for scientific work, so we only make it to market on Tuesdays. Not so much the price with respect to cilantro but rather lack, due to geography.
No_Builder2795@reddit
That's cool as hell what are you scienceing in the jungle?
Frothynibbler@reddit
When you can, I recommend getting a bottle of dried cilantro. It’s not the same but very close as long as you rehydrate it/don’t overcook it. It stretches verrrrry far.
FryCakes@reddit
I personally like it even better dried. I have that thing where cilantro kinda tastes like soap when it’s fresh and for some reason dried just tastes a lot more pleasant to me
Frothynibbler@reddit
Drying mutes the flavor so it makes sense you like it when you can’t taste it as much lol. If you rehydrate in cold water and strain it before adding it will be even more flavorful. I have the soap gene too and am slowly training myself to like cilantro. I’m at the point where I enjoy the flavor a bit in Mexican salsas, soups etc but I still don’t like chewing directly on the leaf.
FryCakes@reddit
Yeah honestly its just a unique flavour, even with the soapy taste in large amounts I actually really enjoy it in curry or in Mexican dishes, as long as it doesn’t cross the soapy threshold
Frothynibbler@reddit
I completely get what you mean. Every other taste it brings is so delicious. The soap part not so much lol.
RetiredBlackKnight@reddit
Oh, now I feel kinda like a jerk. Sorry.
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Not my intention, but I respect the fact you said that. 👊
RetiredBlackKnight@reddit
Yeah, it didn't sound like you were yelling at me, but it made me think about people who aren't fortunate enough to be able to run down to Kroger's for cilantro and vodka like I can.
👊
drukqsx@reddit
I’ve been so broke that $3 on cilantro would sound like a splurge. You seem pretty entitled.
No_Builder2795@reddit
Drink a protein shake along with that and you got a full meal budÂ
vilaniol@reddit
what thee heeelll
the beans from the can straight in the burrito covered in all that jizz eww.
i usually wash em before
GurlOfYaDreams@reddit
what? it helps with dryness tbh. and a little bean water isnt gonna change the flavor profile
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Welcome to r/shittyfoodporn can i take your order?
sweetfruitloops@reddit
If you at all had extra taco bell sauces this would be so fire lol
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
I know right. Im not even remotely close tho lol.
Perfect_Land9861@reddit
Keep it simple
Equivalent-Sink4612@reddit
Awww, at least a bit of rice and hot sauce would totally elevate that for only pennies more, sorry you're going through this :'(
No, it's more than just the money, I get that, hang in there and try not to be too hard on yourself.
MoldyLemonBars@reddit
I make this on a regular basis. I recommend microwaving the beans with seasonings, mash them, put it in the tortilla with a bunch of cheese, fold and brown on all sides. I hope things get better!
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Like your mash idea. Dont want these beans rolling off
Aiderona@reddit
I actually love simple things like this nice comfort food.
I_might_be_weasel@reddit
There are many things I want to suggest for this. But they all cost money.
PotentPersistence@reddit (OP)
Right. The "almost but not quite great" burrito.
