Is “busting a grumpy” an actual used term?

I’ve heard it used online in reference to sayings someone’s grandpa might say but it also feels like something that was said at some point.

FWIW idk where I heard it but I’ve used it for about 20 years. From Michigan originally.

Unless this is some new Gen A slang I have never heard of it

FataMorganaForReal@reddit

Yes, because I'm GenX and we used to say "throw down a grumpy lumpy", but I haven't heard this version.
View on Reddit #71887113

holymacaroley@reddit

I'm GenX and haven't heard that one, either.

WonderfulProtection9@reddit

What did that mean exactly? At all related to OP’s interpretation of being constipated?
View on Reddit #71890283

FataMorganaForReal@reddit

Going poop, not constipation. It's grumpy, not angry. LOL.

Literally the first time I’ve heard that phrase
View on Reddit #72100993

cryptoengineer@reddit

The term is unknown to Google Ngram, so its safe to say that it isn't a thing.

jmeef@reddit

I heard someone say this when I was a kid. 33, Michigan. Not common at all though.
View on Reddit #71944648

tiny_purple_Alfador@reddit

I've never heard this, ever. What does it mean? Like, busting a move, but you don't want to? I'm laughing my ass off picturing someone doing an elaborate breakdance while being just being very obviously annoyed about it the whole time.

turnsout_im_a_potato@reddit

well, you gotta happy if you gotta pee, you bust a grumpy if you gotta poo, kinda gave the dispatcher a bit of a heads up on how long youd be without being like"yo! i gotta shit!"
View on Reddit #71943818

SheZowRaisedByWolves@reddit (OP)

Bust a grumpy = poop but with straining I think

Haha me neither, I actually just saw an article were they used this phase and couldn't help but laugh. My dad always says he's "gonna take the Browns to the Superbowl" 😭

First thing I thought of. World-premiere expression for me.

How delightfully horrifying. Thank you for this. I don't know when I'll find the right time to use it, but rest assured, I will now.

Sounds like something middle schoolers or tik tok would make when because they’re not allowed to say “Bust a nut” or something like that.
View on Reddit #71897392

Bluemonogi@reddit

Never heard it. I did not grow up with grandparents but my parents were older and I never heard them or the older people I knew say that phrase.

mmeeplechase@reddit

Absolutely not, but I’ll be starting to use it asap!

Yes, a relatively short lived phrase from the US South.

I will be using it now. Never heard it before but totally feels like me now’
View on Reddit #71889619

Devee@reddit

What? lol. Assuming I understand the meaning correctly, I think my Grandpa would have been infinitely more likely to say "I'm so fucking angry at you assholes right now" than "I'm busting a grumpy."
View on Reddit #71886050

yeezymcsleezyo_0@reddit

It means go to the bathroom
View on Reddit #71889346

Devee@reddit

Then I think he’d just say exactly that instead hahaha
View on Reddit #71889391

shelwood46@reddit

It may be new slang but it is definitely not old slang.
View on Reddit #71886102

yeezymcsleezyo_0@reddit

It is old. Kids aren't saying this shit.
View on Reddit #71889356

yeezymcsleezyo_0@reddit

I have definitely heard this before. It's not a common thing to say and I don't think it ever really was. But it's definitely a thing. The people acting like it isn't just haven't heard it before.
View on Reddit #71889316

the-quibbler@reddit

It is, but it means to defecate.

I cant e**ven decipher what it means, its not widely used if at all.**

I use it occasionally. Started probably in the mid to late 90s. I picked it up while I was in the Navy.

I’ve heard this as well, always made me laugh when someone said it. Not a new term, been around for bit.

I've never encountered the phrase before this thread. And now I'm nostalgic for five minutes ago — a simpler, more innocent time without this new scatological reference.
