Leisure suit Larry

I remember going to a friend's house in the late 80s. They had a lot of money and a computer room. She put this game on and my 10 year old brain was shocked lol. Anyone else know this game? We didn't play very long, her dad came home and we scurried.

I remember that across their adventure games, they often put in a lot of Easter Eggs and random cameos from other Sierra games in them. One was Larry showing up in Police Quest 2, where Sonny Bonds goes to an airport. Larry points out a "really hot babe", but when you go over and try to interact, it's actually a guy.

I'm aware of a more modern remake, never played it though. I didn't realize that this games roots were so old.
Cross_22@reddit
They released sequels in 2018 an 2020. Both are quite fun (and a lot more forgiving than the originals).

Nice.

Nice

Look what it’s doing for Ai in the film industry
jrunner02@reddit
Looks like the Oregon Trail... with hookers.
IndependentLove2292@reddit
I died of dysentery? Yeah, well, I'm gonna make my own game... With blackjack and hookers.
Editors note: do not type "get in bed" next to that hooker.
Mueryk@reddit
It’s more like SpaceQuest, Police Quest, or Kings Quest…….with Hookers.
So Hooker Quest
Melancolin@reddit
In reality, I’m sure the Oregon Trail DID have hookers.
missnickypearl@reddit (OP)
It looked like this when I first saw it. All green.
ThepalehorseRiderr@reddit
I looked it up and they've made like ten of em, the most recent seems to be 2018.
missnickypearl@reddit (OP)
Sounds like it is time for the app.
The_Best_Smart@reddit
The game’s lighthearted and racy tone belied the fact that it was insanely difficult
Greedy-Invite3781@reddit
Kinda like PoliceQuest
MyBurnerAccount1977@reddit
Daryl Gates was the designer after Jim Walls left Sierra. Both were former police officers, although Gates came with a lot more controversy (e.g.: Rodney King).
4stringsoffury@reddit
Holy shit, you just unlocked a memory of a friend and I playing that and making the character go use the restroom. He started singing “Strangers in the Night” and we couldn’t stop laughing.
Emotional_Signal7883@reddit
Text-based was near impossible. When they remastered with mouse support it was enjoyable.
MyBurnerAccount1977@reddit
For the old AGI Sierra games, you had to slow down the game speed, usually in-game. I remember having to do this in Space Quest 2 where you had to navigate a maze to go to the next screen, but if you touched the edges, you'd die.
Once they went to SCI, the game actions would pause when typed, making timing a lot more manageable.
dropkickoz@reddit
Freed up one of your hands?
SlackDaddy_G@reddit
I can type onehanded, thank you very much.
Mueryk@reddit
Seriously, don’t get the money for a condom and you die of disease
jimicus@reddit
Well, more accurately, your penis explodes and Larry commits suicide.
Melancolin@reddit
Only played one version and definitely needed the walkthrough.
eyesRus@reddit
It was actually really fun. Still can’t believe my dad allowed it, lol.
Feral_Sheep_@reddit
This series and the Space Quest games were some of my favorites growing up.
My dad thought it was hilarious that you could bang the hooker, but if you didn't wear a condom you would die like two minutes later.
Cross_22@reddit
"Pick up metal plate"
- You bled out. GAME OVER

My sister and I played King's Quest and the Quest for glory (Hero's Quest) all the time growing up. I've played Space Quest and Larry once they got to steam but it wasn't the same as joking and laughing with my sister.

Sierra games were the best.

The jump from AGI (Adventure Game Interpreter) to SCI (Sierra's Creative Interpreter) was a huge shift in interface, graphics, and gameplay. The older AGI games had a certain charm when you consider what they could pull off with low resolution graphics and a 16 color palette.
LloydRainy@reddit
Omg this and monkey island!
liams_dad@reddit
Remember the questions it would ask before the game started? It was an attempt at early age determination.
deathmonkey@reddit
I used to guess my way through it and play this in the living room. Until I got cocky one day, and impatiently yelled down the hallway, "Dad! What's the mile high club?" RIP Leisure Suit Larry on my Compaq luggable.

Should have just asked the question on AOL chat, after announcing your A/S/L

Larry was easily 6 years before internet was deployed to peasants.

The old Tandy I played LSL on was probably 2 generations before I owned a computer that connected to the internet.

I learned more historical facts from trial and error trying to see pixel boobs than I ever did in school.

TradeMark310@reddit
My buddy and I tried like 10 times to guess the answers correctly before finally getting in lol.
rjcpl@reddit
My dad had the original in the series, Softporn Adventure. Which was all text, Leisure Suit Larry just added graphics to the same story. Kept the disk in the boring organizer with all the accounting software, word processors, and such. I booted it up a few times but had no idea what I was doing.

Sierra co-founder Roberta Williams (also the wife of co-founder Ken) is the woman on the right. She also created the King's Quest series.

Lol new here. Oh well.

I’ll never forget having unprotected sex and next turn Larry’s penis started blinking and flashing and it was game over lol

My sister and i would play a version of leisure suit larry when we were young. It had a bunch of questions you had to answer correctly and prove you were an adult in order to play. So we would run to the other room and ask our mom “who was president in 1955??” and than run back and enter the answers lol. Eventually mom got curious and came into the computer room to see what her “inquisitive kids” were doing and shyt a brick. She had assumed we were playing carmen sandiego or something. Good times.
SteelGemini@reddit
I remember just memorizing the answers by trial and error. Somehow I couldn't remember enough about the game itself to get out of that damn bar without dying. Maybe child me just found it hilarious to get Larry killed by flushing the toilet or getting in a bar fight. I was certain there was something spicy to be found if I could just get out of that bar. However, we also had some strip poker game that was way easier to see boobs on, so maybe that's why Larry always got dropped after dying a few times.
cheetofoot@reddit
The first time I remember really looking up something in the encyclopedia with intention -- was to bypass the age gate for it.
DiazIsDirectCurrent@reddit
Had to wear a lubber or Larry would die of an STD.

I went to a friend's house and he had Leisure Suit Larry 3 on pc. I don't think he had the other ones, so part 3 is the only one I have nostalgia for.
We stayed up all night trying to think of funny things to type in and see how the game responds. And of course... "Ooooh! Boobies!"
Allaplgy@reddit
Any of you degenerates ever stumble across "Rodger Ramrod"?
ryguymcsly@reddit
So many sequels to this game. I never played it. I’m about to change that.
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
What was the actual point of this game? Like was there an indigo or was it just to not have your penis explode?
WineAndDogs2020@reddit
Omg the one at the health spa was hilarious!
Sneezcore@reddit
Played this at a friend’s house on his dad’s computer one time. The only part I remember is having to answer a series of questions and depending on how many you got right the window blinds in the following cutscene would raise up to reveal a topless woman’s pixelated boobies.
this_knee@reddit
She?
SHE?!
… that’s beautiful . Gaming of all types are for everyone.
Due-Reflection-1835@reddit
My mom used to answer the questions for me to prove you were over 18, at least until I memorized the answers. Used to play it on my radio shack computer
_6siXty6_@reddit
Loved it. I loved all of the Sierra games.
CuteFluffyGuy@reddit
There was a whole series of these ranging from the early text only to the good graphics ones. All of them were more adult themed with Easter eggs galore
Mueryk@reddit
One of the sequels was on a Cruise and a side game was finding and clicking on all the hidden penises in each screen. Whereupon it would say “Yeah baby” and kind of dance its way off the screen. That kind of sticks in your memory.
BritOnTheRocks@reddit
I do remember this because my Dad’s name was Larry and I’d point it out in the computer magazines he owned. He was smart enough to steer his innocent kids away from actually playing the game though.

"It takes leather balls to play rugby"

i could never get past the history exam to even get into the game.

meh. my brother used to play this game… and i would tell him im gonna rat on him….then he dared me to… he said if i did he would kick my ass.
and i never told on him

I still remember this part of the game and the results of not having a condom.
averageduder@reddit
I loved all these damn games. The first might have been my first computer game
_--_Osiris_--_@reddit
My mom would answered the questions for me at the beginning that you had to pass to prove your age in order to play lol
MsInput@reddit
The Pursuit of Procuring Patti was a fun time. You turned into Patti at one point. Definitely didn't bring up any gender feelings lol (it did 🏳️⚧️)
foxontherox@reddit
Never played these, but I played the shit out of so many Sierra games.
MostSharpest@reddit
I learned a lot of English with this game. Among other things.
BlueLightJunction@reddit
I loved this game. I would have to play it in secret. There were questions you had to answer at the beginning before you could play. I did like the naughty factor but it was intro into the games where you are in a world and have to solve puzzles. Also you can’t help but like Larry a little bit right?? Poor guy can’t catch a break!

I wasn't supposed to play it or even know about it, but I did anyways. I loved Sierra games and once I had played through all the others I had no other options as far as I was concerned.
Unlucky-Pomegranate3@reddit
My parents had that game for our family PC. They didn’t allow me in the room when they played it.
