RIP
11/22/1996 was also the release date of Star Trek First Contact in the US.

The lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

For an almost 30 year old sci-fi movie it still holds up extremely well. I remember seeing it in theatres and being absolutely blown away.

He was a truly lovely man. He was one of our guests for a local Trek con in 1991. I’ll never forget coming home from work one afternoon and finding his response to our invitation on my answering machine: “It sounds like good fun. Let’s do it.” You know I went around for days telling people, “Spock’s father is on my answering machine.”

I read that in Mark Lenard's voice. Did you happen to save that message. I know I would have.

I did save it for a long time.

Sarek is cool because he belongs to the true-blue fans, passive fans like those who only like the movies don’t think about him

Funny, I just finished 'Unification,' in my continuous rotation of TNG background comfort watching.

When Picard delivers the news Spocks „Sarek,Sarek is dead“ and the following „walk with me Picard“ always make me tear eyed. Nimoys subtle but impactful way of displaying Spock‘s emotion is just peak performance for me.

I never knew what he was doing. When he was a boy, he would disappear for days into the mountains. I would ask him where he had gone, what he had done. He'd refuse to tell me. I insisted that he tell me. He would not. I forbade him to go. He ignored me. I punished him. He endured it, silently. But always, he returned to the mountains. One might as well ask the river not to run.
But secretly, I admired him, that proud core of him that would not yield.
