Hi. I've recently decided that I'm done with my w11 bloatware bullshit and was thinking to go switch to arch probably hyprland. I'm not entirely new to Linux i have already installed and used mint for some time on an old laptop. I've came here for tips, tricks and some advice. I was thinking of getting another drive to first dual boot w11 and arch and to ease myself in and I was wondering how complicated is it? I do have some basic C# and knowledge but I'm unsure how it'll go. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

Skim the Arch and hyprland wiki to get an idea of how complicated it is. Install Arch with btrfs and subvolumes and setup snapper snapshots, and enable compression.

I'd say that btrfs is just going to be a headache for a beginner. I mean, if they want it, sure, but it's by no means necessary.
MassiveProblem156@reddit
How would it be a headache? Sure, free space needs its own command to be accurate, but other than that, I don't see how anything would be annoying unless you opt into using something.

because it requires additional setup, the documentation is messy, and ext4 works just fine
MassiveProblem156@reddit
What additional setup is required? I think btrfs would work fine too without using any of the extra features while allowing you to in the future

Will start educating myself. Thanks!

Mate, I would get into the word of the “Home Lab”. You can learn to host most or maybe all of your services you need. Self host on your own metal or run on a virtual server if you don’t mind paying a little per month. Even your own Cloud Storage system e.g. OpenCloud
Regarding your main OS, jump into Linux mate. Give Omarchy a try to see if you really like the Arch/Hyprland bundle. I’m a huge fan. If you do like it, you can always manually install Arch and config your own Hyprland. You also can just stick to Omarchy. It is tailored towards developers.
You have so much fun ahead of you.

Arch is fun to mess around with and the easist way to get 3x10^(8) varieties on instant eyebleach by just copy and pasting from the wiki.
I'd recommend using something solid and stable with a little more control than Arch as a bare metal OS, but it's cool if you just want shit all over the screen like pewdiepie in not time, if you install Ubuntu and want that you might need the horrors of RTFM or even worse fighting stuff out yourself.
I like a solid base I have some control over, so not btw. I have Ubuntu LTS Pro and MX workstations atm, they all run an i3wm I can't see and I've been using this onvarious systems for 15yrs or so, all systems look the same as I can't see them.
I'd be wary of memes like Arch is some poweruser bloatfree wonderland, it's not. If you want power and control Debian and Gentoo wipe the floor with it, but Arch makes it easy, until it snaps.

Try liveusb or VM first, get the feel for it and see if Arch is your thing. Also note there are arch based distros which may be easier to ease into.

My suggestion is just use it, avoid booting windows at all costs and when you find some error and look for fixes online try to understand how the fix works

Thanks!I also think it's smart but still have to transfer all my files first.
