Honestly I think Phord fanboys at the time saw it as a revival, because even they couldn't stomach the Mustang II.
I always liked the line in "Gone in 60 Seconds" where Toby says the line "Its the last of the Mustangs" before trying to steal the yellow Mach 1 at the airport (for the first time).
Had one 91 GT, then a 95 GT Convertible, and finally bought a new one in 2015 GT convertible premium (black with two red racing stripes) - 6 speed. Was a fun car.
I have to hand it to whoever was doing marketing for Ford at the time. Somehow Ford convinced their crowd that the 5.0 was the gold standard for fire breathing V8s while at the same time, Chevy enthusiasts universally regarded 305s (same displacement basically) as irredeemably underpowered turds whose only purpose in an F or G Body in the 1990s was as a placeholder for a 350 swap.
I just commented on how tired I’m getting of these “X would be in 20XX” posts about two hours ago. I wonder how many more I’m going to see before sundown.
These memes are interesting but the era shifts just aren't comparable. For whatever reason we got the hell out of the previous era a hell of a lot faster than we did the 90s and beyond. The world isn't THAT much different now but to compare the 60s to 90s it's a completely different world.
A friend of mine drove his mom's just like this every once in a while to school, a major privilege. One day in highschool he was running cross country, and we knew where he hid the key. Top was down and we knew the cross country route so we drove by pretending not to see him. He was frantically waving his arms trying to get our attention 🤣. We put it back safely. Too funny

Loved those 5.0 convertible mustangs as a kid.

Actually I never liked the Fox body, but they were affordable for a time in the early 2000's because everyone wanted an SN95.
blove135@reddit
Same here. Never was a fan of the fox body. I could never understand the appeal.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
With the right build, they put out an absolute shit ton of torque. One of my buddies had one and ended up completely twisting the chassis.
Jimmy_McAltPants@reddit
I didn’t love them at the time, but I like them enough now. The 5.0 made a great sound though

Vanilla Ice still has this car and has spent over $100k in modifications and upgrades.

Girlies all stand by, waiting just to say hi. Did you stop?
Alternative-Light514@reddit
Fuck that, keep driving (loose retelling)
KevG29@reddit
No, I just drove by, kept on, pursuing to the next stop.
Why do I still remember these lyrics? 🤣
_Tux4Life_@reddit
I don't know either....

I busted a left, and I'm headed to the next block

Oh I still do. Almost got my hands on one back in the day and the dude bailed on me, never forget that miss.

Ralph Macchio was born in 1961. He is 64 now. Pat Morita was born in 1932. He'd be 93 by now.

He was OLD in the Karate Kid
ValonMuadib@reddit
Kind of, yeah..

ralph macchio is a boomer? I was unaware of that.

Me neither.
His cousin Ralph Macchiato opened a Coffee shop and a clown school in Sicily.

Basically also illustrates that the Karate Kid is about as contemporary to us as WW2 was for the population when the film came out.

That actually makes it sounds worse!

The 5.0 is cool but I’d still take the ‘47 Ford.
kathatter75@reddit
I wish people would stop doing this. Social media has done so much to try to make us feel older with shit like this.
mstrdsastr@reddit
I would take a 5.0 in a heartbeat. Those cars are dope as fuck.
Gullible_Rich_7156@reddit
Fun fact-Biff drove almost the exact same car (black 1946) in the original Back to the Future movie.
