If they re-made The Wonder Years today, It would take place in 2005.

LAWN. OFF. NOW.

I struggle to think of what was so unique or different in 2005 vs 2025 fashion wise or aesthetic.
Less smartphones and iPhones for sure.
thejunkmanadv@reddit
I think story lines for the "young" characters would have to be around more face-to-face interactions and relationships versus 2025 where people tend to do all that more electronically. Example: The male character would still have to call, pass a note or physically talk to the female love interest, where as in 2025 this would be done more non-verbally through text/meme/app which doesn't translate to "TV" very well without making the audience read along with the character.
That is probably the biggest cultural difference I can think of.

Happy Days: Show produced in the 70s about life in the 50s
Wonder Years: Show produced in the 80s about the 60s
That 70s Show: Show produced in the 90s about the 70s
The Goldbergs: Show produced in the 2010s about the 80s

Go ahead and do the math for 1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins and That 70s Show. Now feel even older.
BK_0000@reddit
They did remake The Wonder Years a couple years ago and kept it in the 60s.
Farm-Alternative@reddit
Such a missed opportunity to do an updated 80's or 90's version instead. Their audience that grew up watching the show has grown up themselves and wants to take a nostalgia trip into their own past. Not relive the 60 version targeted at their parents.
You would think a show steeping in nostalgia already would understand that.
_mersault@reddit
The 80s version is called the Goldbergs. It’s fantastic until the actor playing the lead hits puberty. Enjoy the first several seasons
Farm-Alternative@reddit
Yes I watched the first few seasons of the Goldbergs and loved it, and I guess we have Roseanne for the 90's
Still could've been cool to follow Kevin and the Arnold family into the 80's and 90's to see how those characters adapted to the times and extended the family.
chadwickipedia@reddit
Rosanne was filmed in the 90s though. That’s like saying All in the Family is that 70s show
Farm-Alternative@reddit
Yeh I did think that but I can't really think of any retroactive/nostalgic sitcoms about everyday family life based in the 90's that are culturally significant.
Are there any you can think of?
tacitjane@reddit
Fresh Off the Boat
Ted
Everything Sucks
Young Sheldon
I really liked Ted and the first season of Fresh Off the Boat.
chadwickipedia@reddit
No I assume the just haven’t been made yet. I know “that 90s show” is a thing, but I haven’t watched it.
Farm-Alternative@reddit
I tried to watch it but yeh, it wasn't great.
Funkopedia@reddit
The Wonder Years was simply "That 60s Show" same as Happy Days was "That 50s Show"
External-Animator666@reddit
What was that 70s show tho

Knight Rider

Well, just look at Jurassic park. One good movie and a truck load of crap. How do you fuck I’m Dino’s????????

That show was good. Shame Fred Savage (who produced the show) crashed out.

Oh my god that remake was sad and depressing

I don't hate it, but 2005 is such a weird year. Personally it was one of the best years of my life, but societally, I have like...no image or opinion of 2005 in my head. What did people wear? I can't even remember. Just the same stuff we wear now? Wasn't pop music kind of the same as it is now? I don't remember any slang that's really particular to the era, except maybe "sick" hitting its peak? I guess we had Frutiger Aero on our computers, which was a little cool.
I don't know, mostly just kind of a year that's...there.
ooo-ooo-oooyea@reddit
2005 is the year I studied abroad in Brazil. It was a good thing!
I guess if they made a show about that it would be more like Skins.
username__0000@reddit
I think it was around the time outcast was popular music. Emo was having a moment too I think.
Clothes was like the simple life (Paris and Nicole show) style.
Flip phones if you had a phone at all (at least in my social circle, we were all slow adaptors to the cell phone life)
MSN messenger was the online form of communication.
I moved around 2005 so I remember the stuff that overlapped the two city’s a little.
chadwickipedia@reddit
A post 9/11 show would be interesting
Stonk_Lord86@reddit
We grew up in a time of rapid change. Wildly specific changes that differentiated even 5 years of time. Special stuff, really. A show about 2005 in 2025 couldn’t work, right? Maybe some things around social media and smart phones I suppose.
chadwickipedia@reddit
There was no social media or smart phones in 2005. There was AIM and iPods
spaceporter@reddit
I remember a friend forcing me to sign up for Facebook because I had just graduated university and if I didn’t do it now, I’d lose access to an official university email and not be able to.
chadwickipedia@reddit
Nice, yeah it was freshman year and I remember emailing Zuckerberg asking to add it to my school. My girlfriends school had it and we didn’t
thepain73@reddit
MySpace was definitely a thing in 2005.
chadwickipedia@reddit
Yes that’s what I said in my parentheses

YouTube and instagram at it’s infancy. The rise of high def tv and advent of blu ray discs. The introduction of arguably one of the world’s first hypercar; that has over 1000hp and ability to accelerate to 250 mph- the Bugatti Veyron. Another 2 years the debut of the iPhone.
