I'm a lazy and broke human who needs calories to survive
mister-oaks@reddit
It's food!
ResidentCommand9865@reddit
That's just jambalaya.
ediks@reddit
Speaking for South Louisiana here... That is absolutely fucking not jambalaya...
ResidentCommand9865@reddit
It's a one-pot dish of rice, meat (like chicken, sausage, or seafood), vegetables, and spices... It may not be the best Jambalaya, but it still counts.
plz_send_cute_cats@reddit
yummy af
Queenpitbull202@reddit
That looks pretty damn good🤔
DecentCasual@reddit
Nom nom that looks
Ideal_Jerk@reddit
Kansas Fried Rice
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It surprisingly was
Lower_Arugula5346@reddit
yeah this actually is something i would eat if i had been drinking
loosewilly45@reddit
I wouldnt even have to be drinking , id take that to work
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'm off today and tomorrow so I might have had one or two before whipping it up
Lower_Arugula5346@reddit
with ketchup!! 🙂🙂
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
This is weirdly a time when I wouldn't mind the ol tomato sugar sauce
muzzynat@reddit
Don't give in, slap some hotsauce on it!
Lower_Arugula5346@reddit
also your SN made me laugh
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'm glad! I couldn't tell you what led to me picking it years ago
Lower_Arugula5346@reddit
that would be for the lolz
Lower_Arugula5346@reddit
yay!!
Ok_Stable1533@reddit
timagine hunger as a chaotic roommate who steals rent and snacks
Ocean_Bear@reddit
Homie, that looks fucking delicious
loosewilly45@reddit
I can get behind it
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Same buddy but my expert opinion is that you get on top of it
wireknot@reddit
Theres a recipe from Justin Wilson called Chicken What-the-Hell, and its basically a fridge clearout with rice. Trinity, sausage, chicken, shrimp, whatever you got, throw it in the pot. Surprisingly good and different every time.
Swiggens@reddit
This looks amazing and delicious
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It hit the high notes and I'll for sure make it again
Swiggens@reddit
You got a recipe? I wanna make this in a pressure cooker lol
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Half a cup of rice, can of mixed veggies, 5 hot dogs, 1 chicken boullion cube, pepper, Tajin, garlic powder, and Louisiana Garlic Lovers cooked on white rice mode. Toss in a can of mushrooms (no sodium added, of course) and leave it on warm until you remember you made food you should eat. Makes 2ish servings
I would recommend heating up the mixed veggies (and honestly the hot dogs but that's on you) separate and throwing them in the rice at the end, but that's on you
LordMemerton1@reddit
That looks delicious 🤤
Fickle-Secretary681@reddit
Looks good!!Â
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Oooooo yeah that would have been a solid addition. A bell pepper for crunch would be nice too
cpdk-nj@reddit
literally any dinner is made better by bell peppers imo
cig69@reddit
Side tip, might want to cook bell peppers and peas separately, so they taste fresh and stay green, I'm guessing rice cooker turned them to mush
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I usually throw bell peppers in when it hits the warm cycle and give it a few extra minutes. Or just chuck them on raw and say fuck it. I'm here for some texture.
This was the first time doing the mixed veggies in with the rice and it was okay, but I'll definitely add it at the end next time. Mush wasn't problematic but it was definitely there.
dunderdrew2@reddit
This looks incredible
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It wasn't my best work but it might have been some of my best bullshit
giyomu@reddit
I would happily eat it!
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I can highly recommend it! The only thing it was really missing was a bit more crunch, so if you do try to make it maybe some bell pepper would be a move. Or cook the mixed veggies separately and add it at the end
giyomu@reddit
I'll definitely try your dish, thanks!
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
If you have a rice cooker I'd highly suggest getting weird with it. The risk is worth the reward
TheRudDud@reddit
I made something like this all the time when I was in college, "grocery outlet jambalaya" lmao
ediks@reddit
This is not a jambalaya....
RenzuZG@reddit
This is a good looking meal.
BunnyLady91@reddit
I love hot dog fried rice. Possibly the cheapest meal next to pb&j or grilled cheese.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I might actually fry the leftovers tomorrow if my wife will let me steal an egg
wowwroms@reddit
r/amazingfoodporn
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Yo for real? I thought it was MAYBE r/decentfoodporn at best
quesadallie@reddit
Nah I’d eat this anytime of the day
TwinMom2012@reddit
That looks delicious
NuncioBitis@reddit
I would nom that
SpiketheFox32@reddit
Rice and bullshit is a perfectly acceptable meal.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Rice and bullshit makes up a third of my diet and I'm glad I'm too broke to get tired of it
SpiketheFox32@reddit
Damnit, now I'm hungry for some rice and bullshit
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Follow your stomach and heart! In no particular order!
rudebutts@reddit (OP)

ExpressBallSucking@reddit
This is not shitty food. That is a legitimate recipe.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'll take it. I cook in the rice cooker often because of years of BoH work (I can't be assed to dirty up more than 5 things when I cook now) and I usually try a little harder. My wife also said it looked sad so I felt like it belongs here
ExpressBallSucking@reddit
I knew you worked the line. Could smell it on ya.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I've done more FoH stuff but I'm glad my time served is apparent
ExpressBallSucking@reddit
I'm also more of a front of house at work, but at home I'm a cook. Sort of a human mullet. Business in the Foh, party in the Boh.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I left the industry life because I'm a little too party in both. I don't miss it (that's a lie)
ExpressBallSucking@reddit
Good thing you didn't find one of those kitchens that was party in the both. (Me too)
LucidRamblerOfficial@reddit
Swap the hot dogs for hot links and you basically got my wife’s favorite childhood meal. She makes it every once in a while and it’s fire. It’s raining where I am and that’s the best time for this so thanks for the dinner idea
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
The hot dogs were a surprise addition, it's usually chicken or some kind of canned fish added after cooking everything else. I snagged a 20 pack of name branded hot dogs on markdown the other day so I've been trying to work through them in creative ways. Hot links sound amazing and I'm glad I could be a source of inspiration on a rainy evening
southpaw05@reddit
Honestly that looks pretty good
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It's going to end up in my lazy rotation for sure. Might do smoked sausage instead of hot dogs when I'm less broke
ParkerFree@reddit
Smoked sausage would be amazing. It's pretty cheap, yes?
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Store brand where I work goes on sale for $2.25 to $2.50 a link pretty regularly, and that should be enough for two batches of this
ParkerFree@reddit
That's not shitty.
Ok_Zookeepergame5141@reddit
My mother used to make us something similar, hotdog fried rice with an omelets on top. I would cover it in ketchup and devour it. Delicious!
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Yo egg would be a nice addition
Ok_Zookeepergame5141@reddit
Yup, or egg over easy with soy sauce too.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'm not usually big on runny yolk but I could see it being nice with the rice
Ok_Zookeepergame5141@reddit
It looks yummy just the way you have it in the pic, too.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'm definitely making it like this again, just gonna throw the mixed veggies in at the end and sub smoked sausage instead of hot dogs. Unless I get another pack of 20 Oscar Myers for $2.51
TNH_Nightingale@reddit
Keep it a buck, boss. This looks like Jagacida, just with a few extra stuff thrown in.
taylorthestang@reddit
You unlocked a huge childhood memory for me. This was one of my family’s struggle meal and it always hit, I totally forgot about it until now so thank you. Gonna remake this asap
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Ayyy hell yeah, I'm glad I can be an inspiration
ChefAsstastic@reddit
Commercial-Star-291@reddit
thar doesn't look shitty at all.
ImClankedUpNGL@reddit
This is not shifty food, I would eat this too
Impressive-Pepper785@reddit
I’d smash that
neverenoughmags@reddit
Vaguely similar to Puerto Rican rice I've had with Vienna sausage and pigeon peas.
Proper-Goal5364@reddit
What does this consist of good sire
zi_110@reddit
I’d eat that. It genuinely looks delicious.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It was, I highly recommend. Especially if money is tight
YakElectronic6713@reddit
Look ok to me. Not shitty..
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'll take it!
presidentkokoro@reddit
Looks delicious! A little bit of hot sauce and this stuff is comfort food.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Normally I would have thrown an almost unreasonable amount of hot sauce or Sriracha on there but I was ready to eat when it was done. I will say the couple of dashes I hit it with before cooking and the Tajin did a solid job
HeftyAd2780@reddit
Yums
GentrifriesGuy@reddit
This ain’t shit. But pray for your toilet.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I lived on bar food and PBR for years. I have an iron stomach
GentrifriesGuy@reddit
Thx for destroying the ozone, cow farter
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Cow farter is one of the better hateful things I've been called in a while
DrDentonMask@reddit
Not a fan of mushrooms, but diddlydang if that doesn't look pretty. I'd be all over everything else!
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I think it would turn out fine without them but I don't know what would be necessary to fill it out. More beans probably?
DrDentonMask@reddit
Good question.l I like chickpeas, bacon, spinach and/or potato myself.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
My wife reminded me there's a can of chickpeas that I could have used right after I got done eating it. Oh well, there's always next time
minbinjin@reddit
A+ from me. Rice, sausage, veg plus seasoning is my go to all summer bc the rice cooker doesn’t heat up my place
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
God rice cookers are so neat. I'm sorta bummed it took me till my 30's to realize their versatility
USAhotdogteam@reddit
Well done.
jeffnorris@reddit
Hell yeah looks delicious
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Thank you, it was better than expected
CreeepyUncle@reddit
This looks awesome!
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I'll take being wrong here
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Hey I'll take being wrong about this being shitty
Que_Raoke@reddit
That looks 🔥
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Thank you! It was what I needed this evening
diepiebtd@reddit
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It was solid. The bullion cube does a lot of work to keep everything from being bland
BassweightVibes@reddit
Looks like a delicious budget meal.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Getting 2 meals out of maybe $3.50 does make me happy
Zak_the_Wack@reddit
I've learned from my mom that throwing a bunch of things together can often be better than a pre-made recipe
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
She is not wrong
crisscrossed@reddit
i literally made this the other day with a bunch of leftovers and it was so much better than i thought it would be
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I was pleasantly surprised
Drew_zero@reddit
Looks delicious to me. I'd hammer down on that shit.
Drew_zero@reddit
Well, minus the mushrooms. That's the hard no part for me. Lol
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I was going to leave them out but I just felt the need for anything else in there, and it was the first can I grabbed
Nitrofox2@reddit
Nah man, this does not qualify. I want that in my face hole now
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It was miles better than I expected, especially considering my last two "meals" were yogurt and ramen
Nitrofox2@reddit
Oof, yeah, I know the life
nojunkpunk@reddit
....you'd love filipino food...
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Oh next to Thai and Vietnamese that's one of my favorites when it comes to Southeast Asian food. I worked with a guy who's husband brought us all food all the time and damn did it speak to my Appalachian heart
weirdoldhobo1978@reddit
My rice cooker has been a clutch player when I'm having a tough time and struggling to maintain good habits. I know I can still feed myself with something that's relatively healthy and still easy to make.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I've improved my eating habits, health, and budget a lot in the last two years thanks to mine. Even if I'm just throwing a can of sardines on some rice and beans I'm doing better than eating overpriced frozen bullshit or nothing at all
PolakoPolakovic@reddit
Looks like proper food. Wrong subreddit.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
You know, if this is the worst I've fucked up today I'm doing pretty alright
fewding@reddit
Nah that looks good. I gotta try using the rice cooker like that.
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
It has been a game changer for being lazy and broke. The biggest learning curve is figuring out when to add stuff while you're cooking or near/at the end. Mine has a basket to steam stuff so that adds another fun layer to recipes
Difficulty-Shot@reddit
This is actual food lol
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
I feel proud hearing this
NeatStrategy6658@reddit
Good news, this isn't shitty food
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Well I'll take it
lxghtbringer@reddit
Did you mistake it for the garbage?
rudebutts@reddit (OP)
Nah I ate it and enjoyed it
