When I was a youngling, my dream car was a bright blue 90s era Plymouth Neon.

My car is green, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. I didn’t even pick it on purpose (that’s the only color they had), but I love the fact that it’s not black or white or silver.

Interesting coincidence in my feed this morning

Makes me wonder why paint shoppes haven't gotten more popular. So glad my car is red.

Wraps are the new thing. There’s a few near where I live
FaceRockerMD@reddit
Yep I wrapped my car purple.
LemurCat04@reddit
Expensive and time consumer for a vehicle many people don’t actually own.
pastajewelry@reddit
It's expensive and time consuming.
StillPlayingGames@reddit
I always wanted to paint my car something fun, but it was always too expensive.
LiquidSnakeLi@reddit
Not even about cars, recently I went to a party wearing a yellow colored shirt, when I got there, all the people were wearing neutral colors of beige, grey, brown, white. I stood out like a banana. What’s wrong with this world????
OvrKill@reddit
Exactly why I ordered my car with Vivid orange metallic LOL
YVRkeeper@reddit
I bought my car with a special order vivid color as well. It was only on the lot because someone didn’t like the color and refused delivery of it 😂

Damnit we're going backwards!
Unending-Flexionator@reddit
yeah but also the saturation is cranked on the top picture as well

Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 in Forest Green. Someday, even though pretty sure my current car is faster

YES THANK YOU EVERY CAR IS GREY WHITE OR BLACK!!!

My first car was arrest me red.
Though I’m guilty now of the boring colors. Mostly cause I’m not paying an extra grand for a ‘premium’ color.
cranialvoid@reddit
It’s the same with paint colors for houses. The beiges and grays are depressing.
spaceporter@reddit
The first car I owned was a 99 Plymouth Neon. You didn't miss much.
AlienDelarge@reddit
Me here shocked that anyone connected Neon and dream car like that.
Halladay_lights_77@reddit
So, like a neon Neon? Oh and the Plymouth version none the less, that would be a collectors car today! Well, maybe not.
LemurCat04@reddit
I wanted my parents to get “bright blue”; alas, they got black. And then the engine died on vacation.
AlienDelarge@reddit
Sounds about right for a Chrysler product.
throwitlikethewind@reddit (OP)
Haa I also wanted a 76 pacer or a Yugo. I had a thing for strange cheap cars.
paleandsarcastic@reddit
My first car was an adorable late 90s purpleblue Cavalier coupe. My grandfather (a retired Chevy salesman) bought it for me for like $6,000 in 2000…might’ve been my graduation gift. When that died, I went from tan Civic…to gray Corolla…to white Escape…to black Civic…to gray Odyssey…to silver CR-V…to my new sorta-sparkly bright blue CR-V. She makes my heart so happy, and she reminds me of my colorful little Cavvy.
guyako@reddit
I’ve seen this represented in charts, and it’s amazing how everything has just gone to white, black, and gray.
omegaphallic@reddit
Including McDonalds. There are still some colorful places like Saint John's Newfoundland.
bgva@reddit
And they all look very, very similar.

Be glad you never got your wish. I owned one and while cool, I had lost of maintenance issues
sageamericanidiot@reddit
I wanted one of those Geo trackers that looked like Taco Bell. I got a green VW bug instead.
Basic_Boysenberry251@reddit
that’s such a random trade-off, but at least the bug’s got character, right?
sageamericanidiot@reddit
16 year old me didn't really have any say in what vehicle I got. I loved old bugs, so it wasn't a disappointment. I was just thrilled to even get a car.
Express-Cow190@reddit
Freakonomics has a show called “the economics of everyday things” and they did an episode on car colours for anyone that’s interested:
https://open.spotify.com/episode/0vQ7yfBTbsJ69ZXF58dUFX?si=RrbmloYwREab8OQwYlla5g
It’s about 15 minutes if you’re concerned about time commitment.
DesdemonaDestiny@reddit
Let me guess without watching: it is because of insurance companies.
Express-Cow190@reddit
Surprisingly not so much from what I remember (I listened to it a while back). It’s a lot to do with consumer tastes and concern about resale.
PhoneJazz@reddit
Ugh, I wonder if that’s why houses are so bland and white now. Painting over brick should be a crime.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
This was one of my dream cars
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
This is my "fun" car 😊
(The Miata, I came out of the store to see this truck parked next to me and thought it was funny)
Geoff-Vader@reddit
My last car was a baby blue Mini Cooper with black bonnet stripes and my current car is a bright 'pure red' Crosstrek. I love small cars with personality.
coffee_and_physics@reddit
I finally, at 43, feel like I have adult money, so I went and bought a green and white Mini. The rainbow of vivid colors is one of the things that sold me on the brand. Just in the vicinity of my work I regularly see a yellow one, a light orange one, a dark orange one, and a baby blue one. Even the gray one I see around town from time to time has white stripes to give it some character. They’re at least 90% of the brightly colored cars I see around the area.
nickderrico82@reddit
Car manufacturers: Only paints their cars white, gray, or black.
Also car manufacturers: "Customers must love white/gray/black cars, they are only buying those colors!"
(repeat endlessly)
jake03583@reddit
I purposely choose nondescript, unremarkable car colors. I don’t need anything that’s going to draw a road rager or police officers scrutiny
SilentSerel@reddit
I saw a brown car the other day and it got me thinking about the last time I'd seen one before then. My mom drove one until the way early 90s.
LemurCat04@reddit
We are seeing more and more candy colored cars around me, but that’s seems to be tied to more and more people getting off the leasing carousel and buying their vehicles instead. If you’re gonna drive it for 10 years, why not get that sweet blue color that caught your eye?
Immediate-Yogurt-558@reddit
Showed my daughter how to play MASH recently and remembered one of my car picks was always Neon
Kindly_Adeptness2413@reddit
neon is such a classic choice, definitely gives off cool vibes for sure
LemurCat04@reddit
I recently saw a short form vertical video of someone who found a purple Neon in perfect condition with like 18k miles on it.
Blackbird136@reddit
I had a Neon poster on my wall in middle school.
MegaRadCoolDad@reddit
My first car in 1992 was an orange VW Bug. In 1994 I got a yellow VW Bug. In 1997 I got a lime green Isuzu Amigo. A couple of years ago I finally got a Geo Tracker. My wife says it's pink, but I know it's magenta.
WheelOfFish@reddit
Parents have always been about the silver or white. I'm on my second blue car in a row now.
teenbean12@reddit
I try to get a car that is not black or white. My first car was black only because it was a hand me down from my mom. Other wise it went red, orange, orange, red.
catplumtree@reddit
I wanted a neon so bad.
Funkopedia@reddit
When the Neon first came out, i thought it was so cool that i pinned an ad of it on my wall! I was so disappointed later when i found out that there was a consensus that it was shitty, ugly, and clownish.
fenderputty@reddit
Red I like, but things like yellow and purple don't feel right on anything but a hot rod to me.
crazycatlady331@reddit
The first car I bought (not the one I learned to drive on) was a Christmas tree green. The (two) cars I've had since are gray/silver.
I'd love another green car like my old one (but more reliable than a Ford) again.
bananachow@reddit
Everything stopped having soul and personality when the cult of Joanna Gaines deployed.
bgva@reddit
Every so often I’ll window shop and do the build your own car tool on websites. It’s interesting (and sad) how generic the color options have become. My favorite color combo is black with tan interior, and most car companies don’t offer the latter anymore.
I_Dont_Functionn@reddit
Interesting
Defiant_Cookie_4963@reddit
My second car was purple and it was the BEST!
My most recent car before this one was like root beer colored and that was pretty cool too. It was unique.
Alas, now we’re on to white.
I’ve only bought used cars so no real say in the matter at any point lol. But I miss fun colors too!
